About the Author

Hi everyone! My name is Dee Dee, I'm twenty eight and I live in a beautiful part of Devon, England, with my family. That introduction made me feel a little bit like I was on Blind Date!!! As our house is in the countryside we have some unusual neighbours including chickens, ducks, geese, pheasants, a cat (that adopted us when we moved in!!!) and some koi. I also have a very long suffering younger sister, Jingle, who is a brilliant guitar player. She keeps me supplied with coffee and brownies, generally making sure that the Chant household doesn't grind to a halt. I really hope you enjoy reading my books as much as I enjoy writing them. I love reading and have a kindle, I enjoy almost every genre; if there is adventure and romance I'll be there with coffee and a brownie! I also like to cook and wear impractical high heels! You may also have noticed that I have a horrible addiction to exclamation marks!!!

HASH(0x9a9489d8) out of 5 stars Great regency romance Sept. 2 2014
By KLV - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
>Subject - book review - The Promise

> Review

>I received this book from the author and from Paranormal Romance and Authors that Rock. This book is the first book in the Lady Quill Chronicles. This is a regency romance that ends in an HEA with more of the story to come.

>We meet Adele, an 18 year old orphan, betrothed since she was 2 and living in seclusion. Her family was murdered and a friend of her father betrothed her to his young son, in order to protect her. Years later, Rafe, journeys to collect Adele and bring her to his castle to wed. Rafe decides upon a plan of deceit. He doesn't let Adele know his true identity. He wants to get to know her without her putting her best foot forward, so to speak. This plan backfires horribly as Adele begins to have feeling toward "Finn" (Rafe) and is assuaged by guilt.

>Adele, Rafe/Finn and a maid are set upon the very first night of their travels. There is a lot of excitement in their journey to Rafe's army. Once safe, the truth is told and feelings are uncovered. We also meet Rafe's friends, which result in much needed comic relief due to their banter.

>I love the way this story was written. The man behind the evil plot was not uncovered until late in the story and kept me guessing. The pure romance between Rafe and Adele, complete with all their insecurities was so touching. The prologue was very unique in that the author, using the pseudonym Lady Quill, writes directly to the reader. I so enjoyed this read and can't wait for more.

> This book is for a young adult (14+) and adult audience.

HASH(0x9a948a2c) out of 5 stars Romance got lost in the story Nov. 30 2012

I like a clean romance. But I pick up a romance novel because I hope to enjoy just that--a romance novel. The romance in this story is slow and the characters do not seem to have to have much physical chemistry between them. I wasn't looking for bodice-ripping female porn, but the "sweetness" of this story, completely devoid of tension made the romance quite forgetable. The writer does a good job of describing Rafe's awkwardness around women. He comes across as endearing and sweet, but the relationhship between him and Adele plods along at a painstakingly slow pace. By the time I got to seventy percent of the book, the main characters just didn't seem to have that much chemistry and tension to keep the story going. I was more interested in the subplot than Adele and Rafe's story. I hope this writer keeps writing. I am always on the hunt for a clean historical romance, but perhaps she needs to build the relationship between the main characters in a way that goes beyond occasionally describing feelings.

HASH(0x9a948d08) out of 5 stars Clean Historical Romance May 4 2013
By Lauryn Kelly - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
The Promise is a sweet romance, with bits of action and quipping wit. The characters were likeable. Each had their own voice and reason for acting the way they did. They were human, with strengths and weaknesses. I enjoyed how they spoke so properly, as befitting their station and the setting. I liked how the romance progressed between Rafe and Adele, from appraising observations to feeling something deeper stir within. It was a bit jarring to be in both of their heads at any given moment, with an omnipotent POV at times, but it did help us to see their true feelings. I just would have preferred breaks or a visible transition.
As for the actual plot, it was a tad confusing. The suspense over who was chasing Rafe and Adele, and why, lost a bit of its oomph as quite a bit of time passes in-between attacks; some of which come from other people before the main villain's attempt. The ending disappointed me in that there was no real conclusion regarding the villain. It just ended sort of abruptly. Thus, I was happy to read that a sequel is in the works.
The writing is pleasant, aside from comma overload and abuse (aka commas where period should be, and sometimes no commas were commas should be.) This results in a galore of run-on sentences. There were apostrophe and spelling errors, such as interchanging its/it's, and even your's instead of yours. These issues seem a trend of the authors. As I am currently reading another of her works, I notice the same issues of commas and apostrophe errors are present.
Despite this, The Promise is a clean romantic read. Those, who like medieval settings, befitting dialogue, women characters who are meek as well as strong, will enjoy this book.

Note: I received a free copy from the author for a fair and honest review.

HASH(0x9a4b0240) out of 5 stars Sweet Romance and so much more. Loved!! Aug. 2 2012
By loves to read - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
This was definitely my kind of story, chivalrous men, impending war, romance, and strategies aplenty. The writing was rich and flowed smoothly didn't want to put it down. I loved the friendships of Lord Rafe, Finan, Leofric and Rand, their unwavering loyalty to each other was amazing. Each character was nicely fleshed out as well, you came to admire, hate, love, them all.
This story is about Lord Rafe of Valrek and his betrothed Lady Adele of Berron and much, much more.War had left Adele at the age of two the only survivor of her family. Lord Rafe of Valrek who was ten was betrothed to her for political reasons. Adel is kept hidden in safety until Lord Rafe comes to take her as his bride. Lord Rafe collects Adel and her companion and then the real adventure begins. Original plans are changed enemy boarders are crossed, pursuits are followed, enemies turn friend, lies are told, alliances are made, and broken. There are many twists and turns to this wonderful tale that I do not wish to ruin for you.

The characters as I mention really make this story Lord Rafe of Valrek he is courageous, naive when it comes to womens emotions, loyal, kind, strong, and humorous. He was awesome, at times I would get aggravated with his inability to communicate or miss communicate his feeling to Adel. His loyalty and love of his friends and they of him was a crucial part to this story and very endearing. We all have or want friends like Finan, Leofric, and Rand. They worked so well together like the intricate workings of a clock, and they would forfeit their lives for each other. I loved it! Now Adele she is delicate, strong, thoughtful, unsure of herself at times, patient and a good choice for Rafe. They made me smile, and want to scream at times for they had a hard time articulating their feelings for one another....but when they did it was sweet. Finan he was great he got into more trouble than need be and it wasn't even his fault. I loved his unwavering loyalty to Rafe, awesome friend. Leofric was one of my favorites he comes off less than he really is, and I loved that about his character for he is far more than what his father sees in him. He was soooo endearing one of my favorites. Rand is a nice complication to the story and friendship, he takes a calculated risk and it pays off. Eda is Adel's friend and companion and quite the spit fire, she takes very good care of her friend. Her is Eda defending her friend, " Understand this Finan, Lady Adelle means more to me than you will ever know and I can tell when something has occurred to distress her. I care not what you disagreed over, it matters not, but I wish you to understand that your responsibility toward Lady Adelle is not just that you keep her safe, but that you keep her happy as well." Her is a quote from Eda to Rafe, " You should be careful Finan, for that which you are beginning to lose you cannot retrieve and that which you are beginning to crave is not yours to request, In this I have experience Finan, and I know that this path leads only to great heartache....try to do that which I could not and turn from the road before you." There are even more wonderful characters than just these that I will leave for you to explore.
The romance is great in this story to very sweet and is woven through out but does not override the whole story, which normally I would complain about, but it really worked for the story. Great story can' wait for the next in the series.

Clean read
