This was an enjoyable read, a compilation of facts, a refresher course in common sense. Some of us are aware television is no longer a luxury of entertainment, but an actual assault to the brain. Two hundred and fifty channels should just be listed as 'See If You'll Believe This Sh*t' instead of 'The Learning Channel', or other catchy headings like 'Inspiration'.
Unfortunately, those who actually believe in magic, ghosts, aliens, mediums, psychics (and on and on) would never read this book. Schools and societies continually push their own agendas into young minds increasing the cost of education two-fold while at the same time government cuts funding.
If there were such a thing as conspiracy theories the only one to consider would be the intentional dumbing down of the masses via the media working in cohort with churches and politicians.

Review
Praise for the First Edition
Reading the chapters in this fine anthology will make you smarter and better able to cope. First, they will inform you and enrich your life. Then they will give you tools to allow you to sift sense from nonsense about all manner of claims and assertions that swirl about without much intelligent evaluation or response. This is your antidote to those. -- Kendrick Frazier, editor, Skeptical Inquirer: The Magazine for Science and Reason
A ‘how to’ book for apprehending nature in its true grandeur. -- Ann Druyan, co-writer, Co-Writer of the Cosmos TV series and wife of the late Carl Sagan
Dr. Farha has never had any misconceptions about how the universe really works. His book will encourage and help those for whom questions have arisen, and will give them points upon which to base arguments against the ever-growing dumbing-down of the public. We must awaken to this danger and oppose it. -- James Randi

This is an edited book, but each of the essays are well written and insightful. The book could be used as a very useful references in a course on scientific ethics, or for anyone who wants a good set of guidelines for making or approaching rationale judgements.

This is a great book and an excellent resource, both for those just beginning their journey in skepticism and for old hands at thinking critically. It brings together many of the top people in this area to contribute small but insightful works.
