HASH(0xa5889d50) out of 5 stars This is not an OCR version but a newlly typset and proof read version Oct. 8 2011
By M Bush - Published on
Format: Paperback
Donnie Anderson Stanley's review is of one of the many OCR versions. This is not one of those, it is newly typeset and has the original pictures and has been proofread. Try the "Look Inside" and you'll see the quality of this edition.

This is one of the best queen rearing books of all time.
HASH(0xa5889da4) out of 5 stars Good Reference Book But More Historical in Value April 12 2016

A transcribed book by Michael Bush to keep the knowledge of Jay Smith alive. This book was originally published in 1923 and has helpful notes from the transcriber. The information transcribed is invaluable to a beekeeper and you should collect as much information as you can, but the pictures are scans of the originals and poor quality because of age in black and white which is very hard to examine. Many of the photos are of equipment that is not longer used and of course, some of the information is outdated. However, many of the things written are still valid and should be considered by anyone considering raising queens. Kudos to Michael Bush for taking the time to keep the wisdom alive. This book was Jay Smith's 1st book and was replaced by another writing, "Better Queens," which is said to be the culmination of Mr. Smith's work on rearing the best possible queens. Personally, I think the book is overpriced for the information it contains.
HASH(0xa588c09c) out of 5 stars Read the Forward first March 7 2015

I'm glad that I bought this book, but I may not have if I read the forward first. This book was Jay Smith's first book.

This book is ground breaking, but years later Jay updated the information in this book in another book titled "Better Queens." Even Jay calls this information obsolete compared to his newer book.

I bought both books so I didn't bother to read this one after reading what Jay had said. Maybe I'll read it someday, but right now I'm reading "Better Queens."

HASH(0xa5889f78) out of 5 stars A very good introduction to raising queen bees originally written in 1946 and reprinted in 2011. Dec 1 2013
By Kindle Customer - Published on
Format: Paperback
A very good introduction to raising queen bees originally written in 1946 and reprinted in 2011, with updates I believe by Alex Wild. This edition has been re-typeset and thoroughly proof-read by professional editors and, as a result, I did not find any grammatical errors. The pictures, however, are old, black and white, and of poor quality, making them almost unusable. I would have given the book 5 stars if it were not for the pictures.
