That plot...wow! Kept me riveted the whole way through. I think I liked it better than book one. And what a cliffhanger ending!
As for the romance, it's phenomenal. I haven't seen one this good in YA in a while. The chemistry is amazing between Chaol and Celaena. I was a big gooey mess reading about them for the first half. Then about midway, it broke my heart. I won't say why. These two are definitely added to my favorite couples.
Another thing I'm highly enjoying in regard to the romance is Dorien. While he still loves her, he's being good and stepping aside for Chaol. I respect that; you don't see that in many novels. And while she still cares for Dorien, it's more on the friend side. None of that "I love him and then him, and I want him but feel guilty..." You know that stuff you see all the time in love triangles. It's another reason I like this series so much--the romance is done tastefully.
Anyone who likes high fantasy, action, romance, fairies, mystery and an all around amazing story, this is the one for you!
I fell so hard for Chaol AND Dorian, and much to my liking, Celaena only picks one. (Good girl!) Love that there wasn't a love triangle, but more like unrequited love. It's not hard to fall for Chaol or Dorian because both are just such great characters. What makes it harder is that you just know everything will not go as planned. Once they hit that road block, you just know there's no way they'll be the same after that. I felt so bad for Celaena and hope she has the power to forgive. Because that's the right thing to do and knowing her character, she will. I just can't wait until it happens! As I mentioned before, the pacing threw me off, but once it started, it didn't stop and more secrets are revealed. I love how there was an almost surreal aspect that was added to the story, and creatures appeared that would make any basilisk slither away.
If you're ready for a more drama and mystery in Celaena's world, then Crown of Midnight is just for you.
