Ariel Falconer is a bartender at Escapades and has had enough of trying to be an actress. She has decided to move on but a job offer from her boss makes her think about her future as she goes on holidays for a week. Her best friend tells her to have a no-strings attached fling to help her get over her last boyfriend.

Jake Hunter is a professional beach volleyball player who is trying to qualify for the Olympics while struggling to make ends meet. He needs to work which is interefering with his training time and he has been unable to get sponsorship of any kind.

While Jake is attending a tournament he meets Ariel and his partner Colin, thinks Ariel may be the answer to Jake's problems as she must have money. When Ariel overhears Colin she is shattered and escapes back home.

Will Ariel listen to the truth from Jake or is she to bitter from her ex to give him a chance at explaining the truth?

This book was great and I like how it shows that being an athlete doesn't mean you are raking in the money. I also must admit that I was happier with Jake in most of the book than Ariel!!

HASH(0xa74e4990) out of 5 stars When an aspiring actor realizes she has no chance, should she give up her bartending job? March 30 2016
By Dave Parker - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
Ariel Falconer is on an all expense paid vacation from her bartending job at Escalades, a popular Los Angeles bar. When her newly-married brother and his wife heard from her, they suggested she take their honeymoon reservations at the Fort Lauderdale Ritz Carlton because his wife was having terrible morning sickness and didn’t want to go. Now she is sitting on the beach across from the hotel admiring the hunky young beach volleyball players and chatting with a couple of fans. While she is relaxing, she watches a vigorous game between teams trying to make the US Olympic team. Two players stand out – Cole is easygoing and appears to be a good candidate for a fling, while Jake Hunter is more intense and reserved. And it is Jake who brings her sleeping womanly parts to life.
Jake, like many beach volleyball contenders, relies on his freelance work to support himself and his passion. He is freelance software consultant, and doesn’t have the time necessary for training and competition essential for Olympic competition. He and Cole need sponsors. Cole suggests that Jake latch onto Ariel as a potential sugar mama. Now, suddenly, he realizes that he is actually attracted to Ariel – and her presence at the Ritz Carlton signifies money.
The beginning relationship between Jake and Ariel is destroyed by Cole’s interference – he makes a public point that Jakes needs someone to fund his sponsorship. Ariel is angry about potentially being used rather than having a growing relationship. She returns to Escalades while Jake struggles with additional projects to make ends meet. Several months later they run into each other at a senior living home in Los Angeles where they are visiting residents. Both realize they still want each other.
This is a good, strong story. The attraction between Ariel and Jake survives their separation while the obstacles they must overcome to reach their dreams keep the reader involved.

HASH(0xa74e4bdc) out of 5 stars Great novella. Highly recommend July 20 2015
By (ajk) avid reader - Published on Amazon.com

**** "Flawed" by Jade Kerrion

"Flawed" is part of Jade's alphabetical Life Shocks Romances series which she describes as "unlikely romances you will root for and happy endings you can believe in."

I believe that quote defines the initial reaction some would have to the initial on again/off again relationship between Ariel, a bartender who recently got a promotion to pub manager, and Jake, a professional beach volleyball player aiming to make the Olympics.

Even before Ariel and Jake are introduced to one another, as soon as they make eye contact, sparks fly, electric currents affect each of them, and something is started between them before they even shake hands.

I loved the way the author described this connection and how it continued to have the same effect on both of them when near one another and how it affected their interactions with each other. While this physical reaction confused each of them, it also was something they both wanted to explore, as well.

Their back and forth relationship was partly due to this deep connection, as they both felt what the other was feeling much of the time, but Ariel was more driven by the things she heard from others and what she saw as vs trusting her gut and heart and feelings.

While I found the first two chapters to be a little slow, by chapter three the author had fully pulled me into the novel and the storyline and her writing kept me reading and fully engaged in the novella until the end.

I really enjoyed the characters in this novella and the author does a great job at describing her characters while also allowing the reader to envision them in their own mind, as well. She makes them relatable and easy to understand and like. She also writes about their relationship with others creating a truly multi-dynamic aspect to all her characters.

The storylines are strong and easily interchangeable in the sense that they can be brought together as one main story and taken apart as individual aspects of the story and nothing is lost in this process.

The author has a unique writing style that I found added to the crispness and engaging manner throughout the novella. It allowed the multiple story lines to be almost individual from the main one for each character, yet all joined together in many aspects at the same time.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and found it to be a wonderful and engaging read. I will certainly be reading other novels by this author. I highly recommended this sports/romance/contemporary read. Well written, wonderful characters and a great story...

HASH(0xa74e4e1c) out of 5 stars Loved this book! Even without a broken alpha male, Flawed , still has plenty of lust, angst and heartbreak. May 19 2015
By mary/Delish, Devine and All Mine - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
I loved this book. Even though there is no broke, alpha male there is still plenty of angst, lust and heartbreak to keep you hooked. It’s a story of Ariel Falconer and Jake Hunter, both with unfulfilled dreams but also no one special in their lives.

Ariel was an aspiring actress who after seven years had never gotten her big break. She worked as a bartender and had come to a point in her life that she felt like a failure. Jake was a professional beach volleyball player. He had his hopes set on going to the Olympics. Jake and his teammate have played together for several years are just at the cusp of making the cut for the Olympics. Jake's problem is he needs a sponsor.
Feeling that there had to be something bigger, more important to do in life then bartending, Ariel ponders the idea that it’s time to move on to something new. Noelle, her coworker and friend, surmised that what she really needed was to have a fling…find a guy and screw her brains out! Hmmm, could she be right? Summoned by her boss, thanks to Noelle’s big mouth, Ariel was asked about leaving. If so would she consider becoming acting manager, if that sounded like a more respectable job than bartending. Not that she’s agreeing to this promotion thing but is only agreeing only to consider it while on vacation.

Vaca underway, boom, Ariel’s on the way Ft. Lauderdale!! A week at the Ritz, courtesy of her brother and his wife, plenty of time to find a guy and the “screw your brains out” mission underway. As luck would have it didn’t take her long for her to find a candidate either. A sunbathing Ariel’s scored exactly what she’s looking for, not just one but two bronzed, sculpted, hot as hell athletic specimens ready for action! As she watched them playing their game it became obvious that they had a mutual interest in Ariel too. The two guys could not have been more different. Colin, the blonde, flirty, killer smile and a total player and Jake, dark hair, quiet, appearing to be the serious and studious one of the pair.

It didn’t take long for a drunken Colin to prove what a douche he really was when he tried to come on to Ariel at a party. Jake to the rescue, Colin’s attempts were thwarted! Was it this act of chivalry that Jake became the object of Ariel’s attention? I totally loved how easy going and attentive that Jake was with Ariel. They had such fun and an easy going connection. Hot damn, if spending the day together didn’t seal the deal. Something between Jake and Ariel clicked and their day tuned into overnight.

This short lived bliss came to a screeching halt as an irate and jealous Colin appeared at Ariel’s door the next morning. Not only did he dump on his friend making a move on “his” woman but he also accused Jake of using Ariel to fund his sponsorship for volleyball. Unbeknownst to both Colin and Jake, Ariel has no means to help fund Jake’s quest.

Is this truly a case of things not being what they seem? Or would there be a second chance for Jake and Ariel? Flawed was a great read and will most certainly keep you hooked.

HASH(0xa74f33a8) out of 5 stars LOVED Ariel and Jake!!! Definitely worth reading! May 13 2015

I was so excited to find out this book was about Ariel, Michael's sister from the previous book. And just like the last book this one drew me in from the very first page and I finished it in one sitting. I really love Jake. He is oh so yummy! Beach volleyball player....ummmmm yes please. I like the flow of this book and how the characters were both described and in turn made them very real. I also think that while I really like Ariel, she overreacted to some situations but being put in the same situations many would react the same. I can't wait to go back and read the rest of the books in this series. This was another solid 5 stars for me!! A copy was given in exchange for an honest review.
