I mean really, he CAN write. Let's establish that right up front. There are writers, and then... well, there are pretenders. ALLEN SCHATZ is the real deal, and I would sign him in a New York Minute if I thought he'd take the deal.
It's that simple, really. ALLEN is an AUTHOR.... I would not be here wasting my time if i thought otherwise.
DEADBALL was my first experience with him, and in that work, Schatz had me from the first page while I read about his main character standing on the pitcher's mound ... I was hooked. We have an inside joke, ALLEN and I... if I make it in Hollywood first, I'll produce or publish his work, and well, he is supposed to keep that same deal around a similar set of circumstances.
DEALS are like BLOOD OATHS, you either keep them, or rover will chomp at your heels for eternity.
We made that deal three years ago as I had just finished reading DEADBALL on a 747 red eye headed for Los Angeles where I was to pitch yet another screenplay i'd written. That was five scrips and two agents ago. I've learned a lot since then, but I never forgot the talent from Milmont, Pennsylvania.
So.. once again,RALLY KILLER was in my hand on a run from Miami to JFK, and well, RALLY was a home run with the
BASES LOADED, which made my experience with RALLY KILLER a GRAND SLAM.
Are you going to play ball, or not?
