Product Description

Review

"The work is truly noble, to get past the ghosts of dogma and look at the evidence objectively. The authors and contributors are veritable experts with a cold eye for objectivity. They have produced an important work....This is a book for everyone who has studied medicine and found themselves doubting what they have been taught over the years, not that they have been deluded, but that medical traditions have been unquestionably believed because there was no evidence to believe otherwise. The authors have uncovered the truth....This extraordinary, one-of-a-kind book is a valuable addition to every medical library. 5 Stars!"--"Doody's Review Service," .

Format: Paperback
It contains all the JAMA articles on the rational clinical examination which have since been reviewed and updated, with some modifications in the bottom line. Very well explained statistics analysis section. Highly recommended for medicine residents and clinicians.

Must have for residents who want an interesting and helpful way to sift through the less useful, historic physical exam techniques and focus on the techniques that can actually impact practice.

HASH(0x98aa8354) out of 5 stars Every article has one good tip Dec 30 2013

It's not dense material but they are good articles. You pretty much get one tip from every article. I could probably condense what I learned it two pages but they give all of the evidence behind it.

HASH(0x98c0d384) out of 5 stars Will make you look fancy! May 1 2012

I recently was given a copy of this book. I think it will make a great resource for clerkship. It contains evidence-based info on examining for common conditions like appendicitis, ascites, COPD, PE, knee injury etc. One of my friends who is a resident told me it would make me look like an all-star. Looks to be especially useful for internal/CTU rotations.

This gives study results about what exam findings actually represent disease and which are a waste of time. Great for a documentation review as well.
HASH(0x98c0a6c0) out of 5 stars Disappointing Feb. 22 2015
By Christopher - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
Poorly organized. The articles are in alphabetical order so shoulder instability is next to sinusitis which comes right before splenomegaly, strep, and stroke. I was hoping this book would at least categorize chapters according to anatomical location or chief complaint but it doesn't. Also, the "updates" reiterate the original articles that were published over 10 years ago. I do not recommend this book.
HASH(0x98ac281c) out of 5 stars Great book Jan. 1 2012

This book is quite useful - it's as described. It gives the evidence for diagnosing based on physical exam. You don't waste your time on things that don't actually tell you anything, but you do know what's useful.
