HASH(0x9bc91eac) out of 5 stars Nice craftsmanship April 29 2010

Much nicer product than we were expecting; The product had been purchased to keep real heron away from our koi pond and we just needed something that looked reasonable from a distance. The metal construction is solid and well done. A pleasant surprise.

HASH(0x9bc91e04) out of 5 stars Nice Garden Art Jan. 28 2011

The heron garden stake is a nice piece of art and looks very realistic. The only thing is that you have to spray it with a protective clear coat before putting it outside, especially if you live in a wet climate. It started to rust almost immediately until the clear coat went on.
As for being used as a heron deterrant around our fish pond, it worked-at first. The metal heron looks real enough to initially fool the herons. However, herons are smart and realized that this one didn't move. Now that we move our heron to a new location around our pond every few days, it works much better.

Beautiful, well-made, and sturdy. While the photos show the sculpture displayed on a circular stand with metal fronds - this stand does not come with the bird and must be ordered separately (this is a drag since there isn't a link to add the stand to the order, so you have to contact the seller later and pay double shipping). Seller should not include a picture of the stand or at least make the stand available as an optional purchase. Not sure how stable the bird would be without the stand and just using it as a garden stake. Still, it is a lovely sculpture.

HASH(0x9bef663c) out of 5 stars Very nice Jan. 14 2011

We're happy with our heron. I will say that the picture and description led me to assume it would be more 3-D than it turned out to be. It consists essentially of two "cupped" halves joined together, so it looks three dimensional in profile, but when seen edge-on the illusion is diminished. Even so, with careful placement it is attractive, and the real heron hasn't come back so far.

UPDATE: Oct 2012, we had become lazy about moving the fake heron around, and one morning spied a real heron sneaking up on the pond. Don't know if it was sneaking because of the fake heron, or whether that's how they always approach water. But the lesson is learned-- move your heron from time to time!

HASH(0x9bb72d80) out of 5 stars I initially loved the look of this yard Heron Sept. 25 2015

I initially loved the look of this yard Heron. My concern was rusting, and that turned out to be a problem. As some recommended, I bought clear polyurethane and placed many coats to prevent rusting. Unfortunately it still only lasted a year. To be fair, I live in a humid environment near salt water. If you live somewhere arid and dry it may be fine. But can't recommend in a climate such as Florida. Wish it was made of aluminum which won't rust.
