Bailey Dewitt's life has just been turned upside down with the death of her parents in a car accident. She is about to go from living an affluent life to living in an apartment in Midland with her uncle and twin brothers, Jase and Jess.

Yet Bailey knows there are secrets that her uncle, Peter Mason, is keeping from her and when summer comes she is finally allowed to visit The Ranch, where her brothers have been visiting and staying. When summer ends, Bailey is allowed to return to Midland to complete her last year in high school as long as she stays close to Caleb Cross.

There are so many secrets in this book and I have no idea at this point where the book is headed but I can't wait to see what happens with Bailey and her journey!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another wild ride from Samantha Jacobey June 10 2015
By Santiago - Published on Amazon.com

Almost seventeen Bailey learns that her parents have died in a car crash on their wedding anniversary. If that's not bad enough she and her young twin brothers are put in the care of an absent uncle with some baggage. The next thing she knows she is taken to a small city in the middle of TEXAS! (As a Yankee that alone would be enough to make me slit my wrists. ;)
They settle in for a few months and then the reality of her new life changes again. Bailey is a privileged self proclaimed good girl but acts out hoping to return to her home. She is smart and intuitive but nothing in her life has prepared her for what's coming. Without giving away the whole book suffice it to say she needs all her social skills to survive and that may not be enough. She needs to get tough and fast.
I've read several of Ms. Jacobey's books and again she makes you care about the characters and has a well developed plot line. Reading this book was like eating peanuts and it went by too fast. Will Bailey figure out how to survive? What will happen to her brothers? Can she learn to be bad enough to make it through the ordeal? Do she and Caleb fall into each others arms? This book does not answer those questions but it does set the reader up for the next two books in the series coming out this summer. Myself I cannot wait to see how this plays out. Buy the book and take the ride.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delightfuly delicious. July 1 2015

Sadness is where this book begins. Bailey, the leading Lady suffers great personal loss and gets lost trying to deal with the grief. Her privileged life crashes, her choices diminish, and she is left searching for direction. She is forced to make hard choices but she may find the light in the arms of a charming young man? Oh, and lest I forget, her younger brothers and another brother she knew nothing about. Then, there is her Uncle, and worse yet, Texas.

I really enjoy Ms. Jacobey's writing style and she takes it in a new direction in this book. The story telling grabs you in and messes with your mind. Her ability to describe the story settings, the characters, and struggles is amazing.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not a complete narrative arc, but well done nonetheless June 22 2015

I really liked A New Life - but I discovered that series late, so I had the opportunity to read the entire series all at once. This book bears many similarities - young heroine, dead parents, dystopian society - so it felt familiar, but there were some major plotting differences in that someone wants to care for her in this first installment. This author is very skilled at world building and character development, so I really love where this is going. The problem is that this isn't really a full narrative arc. I might have missed this about the author because I had the luxury of reading her prior work back to back, but I have to say that you can get full books - for less money - that are just as good. So, I warn you up front that this will be an expensive series to get invested in. Having said that, if you like NA/YA prepper stories, this is extremely engaging, even tho it's just a piece of a story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Starting a new life Oct. 31 2015

I enjoyed this book very much, had a hard time putting it down. Bailey's parents were killed in an auto accident. Her Uncle Peter becomes her and her twin brothers guardian. He takes them to Texas, to finish the school year. Then he takes them to The Ranch, where they live a different kind of life. Caleb was assigned to keep an eye on Bailey when she was in school, became her friend, trainer a and protector. At the Ranch they are preparing for the end of the World. A very well written book.
5.0 out of 5 stars This is a remarkable book! A real page turner! Feb. 5 2017

Jacobey's characters are believable, and you find yourself sympathizing with them, loving them, hating them.
Her story keeps you wondering what's going to happen next to Bailey; a teenager who lost her parents and, along with her six-year-old twin brothers, is uprooted from their home in Illinois to live with their uncle in a place called The Ranch.
Bailey's life is at stake, and she has to do what she can to save herself.
You will really love this book!
I highly recommend it!
