The historical information provided for each part of the book was awesome. I really liked how he would recommend certain places to visit and tell you how to get there - but also include a short story about the place. The only thing we had a bit of trouble with was that all of the maps were hand-drawn. It was neat but, in the end, we ended up picking up a regular map from a local tourist office.

The font size and type used for this type was very easy on my eyes. Liked that feature as well.

Overall, we will consult this book again in the future (for the historical lessons) but will probably use another source for directions.

We traveled to 80% of the places in this book
Only the part about Lisbon is detailed and useful. For other cities - the info is either outdated (eg. entrance fee is 3eur in the book but when we got there it is 5eur) or we feel that it is loosely covered (eg. Douro Valley), ended up doing extra research on other guide books/website prior the trip.

This is a bit disappointing compared to the one written about France.

This is a highlight-reel of a vacation guide. The maps are sparse and the attractions reviewed are selective. Still, I think Steves makes solid choices. It would be difficult to plan a vacation based on this book alone, but it's a fun read. I also bought the Rough Guide to Portugal and this was my favourite of the two.

As usual, everything you could possibly need to know before travelling to a new destination. I never go on a trip without one of his guide But now I'm off to Peru and how sad, he does not cover South America.

As expected, Rick Steves takes the frustration out of planning and quickly points you in the right direction. He offers more than one way to take advantage of the many different paths to take.
