Product Description

Standalone romance with adult content, no cliffhanger.
After years of abuse, Daniela Reyes escapes her marriage to strike out on her own. With a rented house near the wilderness and a sexy neighbor down the road, life seems typical until she finds a black bear snoozing in her new hammock.

Despite warnings, she feeds her wild friend and watches him return day after day. Her bear is the ideal distraction from the ex who won’t let her go.

Russell Hawkins has dedicated his entire life to protecting others. When the death of his wife drives him to retire from the Army, he settles in a remote community for the peace, quiet, and privacy to be himself. As a werebear, he roams the woods with his dog, the perfect diversion from his grief -- and the voluptuous divorcee down the lane.

Can a war vet with a secret and a woman with a painful past find their happy future together?

Author's Note: Be prepared for adult language and a sexy BBW heroine. All scenes are between consenting adults.

This is a standalone, but each story will feature a different war hero.

HASH(0x9eb8693c) out of 5 stars Good start on a new series (KU borrow) June 28 2015
By Kindle Customer - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
The build-up on this was a little slow, but that's how it goes with a new series, laying all the groundwork. The characters were likeable, and it was great to see an abused woman take back her life in a realistic way (step by step, taking classes). I struggled with my rating on this, trying to decide between a 3.5-4. The story relies on a lot of internal monologues, while I prefer my stories to be dialogue heavy. That's just personal preference, and I still enjoyed the hell out of it, so I settled on 4 stars. Really, any book that includes a sweet bear napping in a hammock, a woman coming into her own and taking charge of her happiness after years of abuse, and a sweet half-naked man rebuilding after tragedy, it's worth a read. Just to clarify, Russ isn't always half-naked, but that's how I prefer to picture him ' I'm interested to read about Ian and Taylor (yep, picturing them half-naked, too!), and am hoping to see how Russ and Dani have progressed through their stories. Until then, there's a dragon series that's supposed to be complete to tide me over, so I think I'll give that a shot '

*I'm adding to this a bit after submitting my original review because something was missing, and I just couldn't put my finger on what it was until a few days later. One of the best things about this story was Russ. He didn't just get all crazy protective over the damsel in distress, but gave her the tools to protect herself. That's a rarity in this genre, and it put him a step above the others in my eyes.

HASH(0x9eb86990) out of 5 stars Journey to Love June 29 2015
By L. Levine - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
Daniela has finally taken the action she should have years ago and left her abusive husband. She has her own home and is trying to enjoy her independence but her ex is still causing issues for her. She is way out in the country and has a lot of solitude. One of the happiest parts of her new home is that she has made friends with a bear. The bear takes a nap in her hammock and then gets a good home-cooked meal from Daniela every day.

One day, her neighbor Russ, sees her ex harassing her and gets involved. It is the beginning of a new start for both of them. He is a widower and retired from the military and has been alone since his wife died two years ago. They have a very sweet romance and he gives her confidence again. Her ex was always on her about her weight. The one thing she does miss is her bear. He stops coming by. Russ keeps a secret from her as to where her bear has gone.

I enjoyed the story very much. Daniela fits the profile of an abused spouse very well. The abuser gets them when they are young and keeps them isolated from others. They use verbal abuse to keep their self-esteem low and prevent them from thinking they deserve more. The author also mentions how neighbors tend to ignore the issue and not want to get involved. In this case, it took a tragic event to move her to action. I think it is great that the author took the time to really describe the abuse as it may make a reader more aware of signs around them. Maybe they can be the rare person to step in and try to help a victim. It resonated with me as I had a friend reveal just this week that they are the victim of domestic violence.

Russ is a very attractive character. He was deeply committed to his wife and is motivated to help others. It is why he becomes involved in teaching self-defense to those in need after retiring from the military. He makes Daniela feel safe again and that is very important for someone who has been abused for so long. Their desire for another is evident and makes a great deal of sense based on the author's description of them. I also like how the author interweaves her family, her boss, and his friends into the storyline. You really feel a connection.

I received a copy in return for a honest review

Title: The Right to Bear Arms
Series: Wild Operatives
Designation: Book One, Stand-alone Novella
Author: Vivienne Savage
Wow! I love it! The Right to Bear Arms is the first book of the Wild Operatives Series by Vivienne Savage and it totally rocks! This captivating series has now become my new guilty pleasure and the two talented authors that make up the Vivienne Savage dynamic duo writing team have captured my heart. This story is exceptionally well written and well edited. It has a little bit of everything so I have no qualms at all recommending it to anyone that loves paranormal romance. It's filled to the brim with danger, drama and dreamy love. And of course, let's not forget the handsome, hot, hunky shifters ! The characters are engaging, charming and well developed. The narrative is exceptionally well written in the first person with alternating his and her points of view. My favorite! The dialogue is well executed and flows beautifully. What didn't I like about this book? Not a darn thing! I loved it!
Beautiful, curvaceous and now divorced Daniela Reyes has decided that a new start in a new home in a new town is exactly what she needs to recover from her abusive marriage. It's a real shame her ex-husband didn't get the memo. He seems determined to make her life a living hell. I guess it's a good thing that her new home comes complete with a new guardian black bear who seems perfectly content to lounge in her backyard hammock and become her new protector. Obviously, no one ever told Daniela to never feed a bear! He'll become yours for life! Oh, and let's not forget her brand new handsome, army vet neighbor who's as sweet and cuddly as a bear! Coincidence? I think not! Beautiful Latino divorcee-check! Handsome army vet bear shifter-check! Hateful, horrible ex-husband-check! Danger, drama and a bear of a secret-check! Heated attraction, sweet love and dreamy sex-you bet! That and a whole lot more! I can hardly wait to read Book Two of this series. Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read!

I really really enjoyed both the story and the well developed characters,Dani and Russ were both interesting and fun and unlike a lot or most short stories out there I've read I felt it had a depth and substance most short stories lack... Most just seem to give you enough story to justify the sex,coz all to often sex if ALL the story is about, cut out the sex and you don't have anything, but not here With Dani and Russ... And while I eagerly await more in this series I did finish feeling like a couple of things were missing, one was just something undefinable something,I just can't put my finger on,you know that thing that whether it's a good meal,or a job or a class or a relationship or a book you just no when something isn't there that you wish was... But then again maybe that's just me and I'm over analyzing things like I tend to do... The other that bothered me was very clear ,their relationship, was Dani another "fated type mate" for Russ? Or just a mate? And why unlike almost ever other ( out of the over 100 or soo ) shifter story I've read, why was their No better bonding or ritual ,biting etc. that needed to be done ? E guys soo far seemed to at least look and sound like maybe they live longer than normal and not just because of their healing abilities ... But at the end they've been together at least 2 plus months and unlike any other protective alpha shifter type the book ends without them mating or getting married or anything, just simply moving in together, which between him and his bear loving her and seeing her as their "mate" and her tight knit family background to have done neither just felt rather odd and for me made it feel more like a "happy for now" instead of the "happily ever after" I felt both them and myself deserved...

HASH(0x9eb8818c) out of 5 stars a great story that will make you believe in love again June 27 2015
By Louise N - Published on

If you want to read a book about love that is so powerful that it will pull at your heart and make you believe in second chances, then this is the story for you! Vivienne Savage has written a story that is so realistic and complete that I felt like I knew Daniella and Russ as people that actually exist in the real world! The pieces of the story were woven so smoothly that you don't even notice when the new layers are falling in place, it just feels like the story is growing by itself. The characterizations were realistic and true to life, you can feel Daniella getting stronger, Russ opening up and Mike getting more desperate as the story evolves! There were no parts of this story that didn't work.
The first person delivery from two points of view worked well in this book as both Daniella and Russ were trying to get over something from their pasts while also trying to build a new thing. I think it was admirable for the author to show Daniella working at and being successful in moving past domestic violence while still remaining true to her real self.
This story had some violence but it was never over the top and the details in the love scenes were graphic without being cheap. It's a thin line to work with and Vivienne Savage did it with style. What's more important was that this story showed a love that grew into a physical relationship instead of the opposite which is normally depicted in this genre.
I completely enjoyed every aspect of this book and would recommend it to anyone who is looking to read about real love and real people, some of which also live as part time animals. I could not put this down.
