I can use this keyboard to navigate through all the screens and functions on the Android boxes with no problems at all and it is super easy to pair up with all of my boxes (I have 2) when I move from room to room. It's built-in battery lasts quite a while without needing to be charged again; roughly about a week of moderate use and still going. This really depends how much you use it for and your active usage. I am a heavy user soo...
Keep in mind that this is not a full size keyboard and the layout changes due to the size parameters. This does not mean that it's not easy to use, just that a little learning curve is needed. The mouse being on the top and not the bottom took me a while to adjust to. The mouse does take a little getting used to other than the placement, in my opinion the DPI could be better as it does take quite a bit of swiping to cross my 110" screen when using it in my projector. The keys are well placed with a bunch of special ones added into the mix, and they all have a nice mechanical click to them when pressed.
The big plus is the backlight feature, which this looks so cool when lit up.
Overall I am very impressed with this keyboard's size, shape, and feel from front to back. The carbon fiber look on the top is a definite added touch to finish it off. The keyboard performs much better than most I have used and is my default go to now. I definitely recommend it.
I was even impressed when I opened it and saw that it came with a leather case, nano USB receiver, charging cable, user guide and even a thank you card. I noticed the case has magnetic buttons to keep everything in place, nice.
The ergonomically designed aluminium alloy housing is nice and lightweight. A lot of attention was made in designing the keycaps, top navigation buttons and touchpad as well. This K16 model size is almost like iPad Air 2 (weight too). And unlike normal laptop which touchpad is located below the keyboard, the K16 touchpad is located on top so that you won’t touch it accidentally while typing. Furthermore, the whole touchpad is also clickable and act like left mouse click. It's really handy when highlighting text. Great feature. And it also supports multi-finger functions.
The top part is mostly navigation buttons for Android TV boxes. There are shortcuts for power, mute, media player and home. Media playback and volume control are there too. Mode toggle for Bluetooth and Wi-Fi and LED backlit toggle switch. Finally, 92 keys QWERTY keyboard layout at bottom.
At back, there are 3 anti-skid pads. 2 small ones and a long one to provide stability while typing.
I use Bluetooth on all my mobile devices and Wi-Fi on PC (or devices that don’t have Bluetooth) and I can say that this unit has superior Bluetooth range. Just to test it out, I discovered I can still type even when passing 10m with walls and obstacles. Nice to know you can use it on your couch while connected to your smart TV or Android box across the room. I could easily hit 'print' to my printer in the other room. And the respond is fast too.
Multi-Pairing function is one of the nice features that you can’t miss. I am able to connect Rii K16 to my Android TV box, Galaxy S4 smartphone, iOS iPad 3 and Windows PC. 3 connections using Bluetooth while the last one is using Wi-Fi receiver. Just use Bluetooth 1, 2 & 3 buttons to switch between them easily. Mode button for Wi-Fi then. No manual pairing is required again. This is very convenient because I can use it to reply SMS on smartphone then switch back for office work on tablet then.
This keyboard is backlit. Perfect to use in any room with lights off. Top part keys are not backlit but you should know what the keys are once familiar with it. As for battery life, it last for weeks when on casual use thanks to auto sleep feature that will put K16 into sleep mode after 3 minutes of inactivity to save battery power. Just press any key to bring it up again.
I have to say, it feels good when you order something online and it actually works better than expected.
I'm really happy with this keyboard and glad I can honestly say it was money well spent.
The keyboard seems to be built extremely well. It has an aluminum casing, making it very durable. It doesn’t look cheap. It comes with a built-in rechargeable battery and an extending cable. An indicator light will flash when the battery is almost drained. The mouse trackpad supports multiple finger functions – Individual finger press = left click, double finger press = right click and double finger drag = page scroll. It also comes with a leather case as an added bonus.
Tested and confirmed working with the following devices:
- Windows 10 desktop
- nVidia Shield TV (Android TV)
- Wetek Play 2 (Android box)
Overall, I definitely recommend this keyboard. It works well and can even blend into any media center setup. It looks great in a living room. It works with multiple devices allowing it to be very flexible.
