Product Description

In this second book in the On the Road mystery series, Stan and Emily pack up the RV and head to Boston for some R & R with the grandkids and a chance to immerse themselves in colonial history. But their Fourth of July celebration comes to an abrupt halt when they stumble over a body on the Boston Esplanade and then another hanging in the tower of the Old North Church. Now the couple must unravel a tangle of forged clues and flush out the perpetrator before their own untimely epitaphs are written onto the historical landscape.

4.0 out of 5 stars What a treat this book is! Sept. 16 2015
By Susan Z. Swan - Published on Amazon.com

Second in the M J Williams series of "On the Road..." mysteries, "...Where the Bells Toll" continues to develop the lead characters, Emily and Stan, a pair of intelligent and likable retirees who have a knack for stumbling across dead bodies and then using their skills as a former police officer (Emily) and history professor (Stan) to solve the crime. The introduction of family adds more depth to our leads -- they and their grandchildren especially are fully realized characters with just the sort of quirks that make real families interesting (and sometimes frustrating). The authors capture the setting in Boston beautifully, giving insight into the history of the Old North Church and its legends as well as to H W Longfellow. Most of all, this is a fun read! The plot is well crafted with a number of surprises, including the final reveal of the villain. Hopefully it won't be too long for #3 to come out.

An engaging mystery that I couldn't wait to get to each night. The characters are a delight and the setting just as I recall from our family trips to Boston. And it's utterly credible from first to last. Highly recommended.
