Product Description

From New York Times bestselling author, Kristen Ashley, comes the long-awaited story of Daisy and Marcus, Rock Chick Reawakening. A prequel to Kristen’s Rock Chick series, Rock Chick Reawakening shares the tale of the devastating event that nearly broke Daisy, an event that set Marcus Sloan—one of Denver’s most respected businessmen and one of the Denver underground’s most feared crime bosses—into finally making his move to win the heart of the woman who stole his.

About the Author

Kristen Ashley is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author. She grew up in Indiana, but has lived in Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus she’s been blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her posse is loopy (to say the least), but loopy is good when you want to write. Kristen was raised in a house with a large and multi-generational family. They lived on a very small farm in a small town in the heartland and existed amongst the strains of Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched). Needless to say, living in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up. And as she keeps growing up, it keeps getting better.

This is a book that any fan of KA will love. Definitely reminiscent of her classic work, which was such a nice way for her to return to the Rock Chicks. Since this is a prequel, it is not necessary for the reader to be familiar with any of the Rock Chicks stories. However, for those of us who devoured that series, it was extra sweet to see some of the pieces filling in (i.e. the beginning of Marcus and Lee's professional relationship). But more than that, how lovely to see the beginning of Daisy and Marcus. There were just so many sweet moments, and I really appreciated that they didn't really have any relationship drama.

For those of you who have read just about everything KA has written (except Matilda, perhaps), you know that the last few books have been a bit of a hit or miss. Often times, it felt like there was a lot of filler, and not enough story. But I think being forced to write a novella for this project meant that KA had to focus on the substance of the story, and to give us what we really wanted--more about the people and their quirks and their relationship, and less about wallpapers and paint. Of course, the same thing that I appreciated meant that when the book ended, I wanted to keep flipping the pages. However, although I wanted to keep on reading about their lives, I felt that KA ended it in a perfect way. She addressed all hanging questions and concerns, while leaving some great clues for potential future stories to come.

All in all, I would definitely recommend. The only thing I felt was missing was a bit more build-up leading up to Daisy and Marcus's relationship--but otherwise, this is classic, old-school KA. That means HEA guaranteed!

5 "No more building castles" stars!!

This book was amazing!! It's the story of how Daisy and Marcus started and to say that this made me happy (after so long) would be an understatement!! This book was classic Kristen Ashley and the Rock Chick crew were just as I remembered them. Daisy was very much a southern belle, Dolly Parton-esque, slightly tacky stripper but you couldn't help but love the hell out of her. We learn about her beginnings and it sure wasn't pretty. But every time I read her say "Honey bunches of oats" or "Honey bunches of love", I giggled. This girl was HILARIOUS and so CUTE!!

To be completely honest though, it was Marcus's character that brought this story home for me. I fell in love with the way that he loved Daisy. He was a man accustomed to getting what he wanted, when he wanted it. No questions. No waiting. But with Daisy he was patient, kind, considerate, generous, compassionate, understanding, loving, and let's not forget that throughout all of that, he was obviously Alpha.

Reading this novella, which truth be told read more like a full-length book, reminded me why I consider each KA book a one-clicker. It reminded me why I remain a dedicated fan to her work. Her stories are real and the plots are NEVER stagnant. Yes, her books follow a formula. But it's the KA formula, which has been tried, tested and true. Often copied but never duplicated. KA is one of a kind and this story gave proof that not only is she the Queen of Alphas, but she can create an absolutely beautiful Prince Charming!

This standalone Rock Chick novella was nothing but beautiful heartfelt emotion. In classic Kristen Ashley style she’s given us character’s with remarkable depth, who grow and evolve around an unshakable love (with super alpha growls and possessiveness thrown in LOL). Two people who on the surface appear to have nothing in common but underneath have suffered, overcome and moved forward in what’s their version of a happily ever after.

Marcus is dark and dangerous; someone you definitely don’t want to mess with. He’s also a fabulously hot alpha male who wants nothing more than to protect and cherish the beautiful stripper Daisy. Marcus is so totally understanding and supportive of Daisy. He's freakin' amazing. He gets how she needs to feel like she matters and is willing to do anything to be her prince charming.
But holy hell did I fall in love with Daisy’s character. I was moved in a way that was almost too real considering Daisy is just a character in a book. I admired her strength and her approach to life. Even when horrible things happen she gets back up and moves forward appreciating all the good, if and when it comes.

Gotta love it! But what touched my heart was that bright vulnerable light almost hidden behind the ugliness she suffered in her life. She’s such a sweet and good person. Even in her darkest moments that doesn’t waiver.

Marcus saw that as well. He was drawn to it and understood her in a way that no one else could. He also knew to his core that Daisy was the one for him even when she didn’t believe it. And when Marcus wants something he gets it!

Boy did I love the ending. Kristen Ashley writes THE BEST epilogues, hands down! Made my heart happy and brought huge smiles to my face. Truly beautiful read. Rock on Marcus and Daisy!! Hahaha
