Product Description

From Library Journal

A teenaged girl shows up on Rockford's doorstep claiming to be his daughter and asking for his help: her stepfather may have killed her mother. The second title in the "Rockford Files" series, this is substantial fare for fans of the old TV show.
Copyright 1998 Reed Business Information, Inc.

From Booklist

When Jim Rockford discovers that the girl he finds sleeping on the deck of his trailer just may be his daughter, he feels obligated to help her determine if her mother, Jim's old flame, has been murdered by her husband. Armed with little but a letter from the girl's mother and a fatherly sense of obligation, Rockford launches an investigation, which soon entangles him in a web of Mob informants, poetry-quoting hit men, crooked cops, and a compromised witness-protection program. While Rockford investigates, Angel Martinez runs a scam in which he pretends to be a descendant of the Spanish master Velazquez and paints portraits of the well-heeled. It's an amusing subplot that Kaminsky--author of the long-running Toby Peters mystery series--deftly weaves into the more menacing main plot. Much like William Harrington's Columbo series (see review on p.782), Kaminsky takes a popular television character, adds depth and more intricate plotting than the small screen permits, and delivers an entertaining and immensely satisfying reading experience. Wes Lukowsky

I thoroughly enjoyed Stuart Kaminsky's "The Rockford Files: The Green Bottle." This book is even better. Many of the old characters return...Jim, Dennis, Angel, and the Firebird...only Beth is missing.
The humor, intrigue, and pathos that characterized the televison series is richly abundant in this novel. Jim discovers a young girl sleeping on the deck of his trailer in Malibu who claims to be his daughter and in need of his help. With a sense of chivalry and suspicion, Jim sets out to unravel the disappearance of the girl's mother, an old Rockford love from years ago. The trail leads him to the Mafia, U.S. Marshals, and his old nemesis, Captian Diehl with the LAPD. A subplot, involving an art scam with Angel, is cleverly integrated with the more sinister main plot.
Mr. Kaminsky portrays the orignal Rockford characters in true form. He further adds new characters with depth and color. A sophisticated Mafia hit-man who recites poetry and enjoys classical music and opera is particularly interesting. The plot is complex and intricate. The ending is well-conceived and should prove touching to those who enjoy the Rockford legend. I sincerely hope Mr. Kaminsky will continue this series.

I have read most of the second book and really enjoyed it.. I was rather surprised that Beth was never written into the story... This shows Rockford at his best. Going after the bad guys and making sure that they get wha's coming to them.. True to original Characters... I want MORE Rockford!

HASH(0xb22abf30) out of 5 stars Classic Rockford Files June 12 2011

Great story. Just like watching the Rockford Files on TV, except Rocky is dead. As with "The Green Bottle", I do wish the author didn't kill off poor Rocky. I would have enjoyed the interaction between Him and Jim. But that aside, really is a classic Rockford style story with lots of twist and turns. Gives us a inside look at Jim that don't really come across as good on the TV series.

If you enjoy the TV series, then this book should be a very enjoyable read.

Stuart Kaminsky does a wonderful job bringing Jim Rockford forward in time. Same quirks. Same locales. Most of the same cast of characters. Disappointed at first to see Beth Davenport away on business, but her fill-in attorney stays true to the original Rockford spirit. And Angel -- gotta love him.
