I've had a hard time getting good lens from Rokinon lately. This was my third attempt after two defective lenses with the 24mm F1.4. I ended up getting a sigma 24mm F1.4 instead since I didn't want to attempt a third try with the Rokinon 24mm F1.4. The sigma is more costly but I was tired of going back to Canada post to return items.

However, I took a chance with the Rokinon 14mm F2.8 since I heard this lens is much easier to produce when compare to the 24mm. WOW is all I have to say! The picture quality of this lens is unbelievable. I took astrophotos with both the Rokinon and Sigma and they were both just as good as each other. The angle is larger of course for the Rokinon but its overall clarity is on par with the sigma. You need to try this lens!

When I could get shots in focus, this was a stunner. Crisp, nice colours, and with the wide aperture, plenty of depth-of-field.

Problem is, I have an older camera with a pentamirror viewfinder (Canon Rebel XTi), and it was basically impossible to manually focus this lens. The viewfinder is just too small and dark to see what's in focus; the shots I nailed were either at infinity or the minimum focus distance, which I determined with a ruler, not my eye. I have some old Canon FD lenses I use with a Fotodiox adaptor that I am able to focus just fine (50mm and 24mm), so it's not that I don't know what I'm doing. The angle is just too wide to resolve focus through my viewfinder.

I imagine any better viewfinder (bigger, brighter; pentaprism) would probably be fine. This note is a little flag for folks like me with a lesser viewfinder who are tempted by the potential image quality and price point of this lens. I would not be scared off any of the 35mm or 85mm Rokinon/Bower/Samyang lenses, as the image through the viewfinder would probably be a lot less hard to focus, but I can tell you I had a very sad week trying to make the 14mm work.

(And I'd like to add a word of appreciation for Amazon's return policy.)

It's Good for the price.
The build is decent.
The lens cover is falling apart for me, only had this 2 months and the plastic falls apart from just touching it. (I've never dropped it ever). The good news is.. the lens itself is well made. The infinity setting is a bit weird you dial it all the way to where it's indicated but then have to dial back some to focus infinity. Strange.

Really sharp! I dont even mind there's no AF because if you know you're lenses you can just have everything in focus.

Used the lens a little since receiving it..certainly a struggle dealing with the manual focus in the darker hours. Incredible angle of view though for 1/7th of the price of other manufacturers 14mm. Jury still out and will update later.

I would recommend this lens to anyone looking for a nice wide shot. It has literally been on my camera since it arrived. I ordered mine because I wanted an ultra wide prime that I could use with my nano fly-cam (I was a little sceptical at first because I already have a wide 18mm and I thought how much difference will 4mm make.... but one walk with the 14mm (with very minimal balancing of my fly-cam) revealed a much smoother gliding shot than I had ever been able to achieve with the 18mm. I haven't owned this lens all that long yet, and I still have much to test, but so far, I really love it!

I purchased this lens to do aurora borealis and other imagery during long exposures at night. It works well and I am glad that I bought it.
