For over a month now, my two year old has been asking for this book at least twice a day. A wonderfully sweet story of generosity, misfits and loyalty, Room on a Broom has Donaldson's soothing rhythmic storytelling and Scheffler's colourful, detailed images. Fans of "The Gruffalo", "Stickman" and other Donaldson/Scheffler collaborations will instantly fall in love with this sweet tale.

My girls, ages two and four, love this book and so do I! It's a clever rhyme and a sweet story that teaches a subtle lesson about how doing things for others can ultimately benefit oneself. I also appreciate how everything is not spelled out for the reader and there are some portions near the end that the child has to figure out. Very clever -- my favorite Halloween book this year. Nevertheless, this book is not Halloween-specific, and is definitely appropriate for any time of the year.

With a soft heart for animals, this unconventional sorceress with her tiger-striped cat embark on a windy flight full of accidents - first her hat blows away, then her hair bow and then her magic wand! But thanks to helpful dog, parrot and frog that retrieve the lost items, the witch is able to keep her cheerful grin and one by one the animals plead with eloquence to ride on the broom to which the witch with well-executed rhymes, pleasantly agrees. But too many animals on board become the last straw for the broom and it snaps in half in the worst middle of a bog where the witch is captured by a fiery dragon. The animals return the witch's good deed by making a joint monster to scare the dragon and save the day. With ingredients contributed by the passengers, the sorceress conjures up the last piece of super-magic that will surprise and delight the readers' mind! Funny and friendly, ROOM ON THE BROOM offers quite a happy Halloween ride in the sky.

This was a wonderful story, with great illustrations, for my 3 1/2 and 6 year old. The good witch takes everyone aboard her broom that she comes upon, but when the broom breaks (and they all fall to the ground) and she is threatened by the big mean dragon (who wants to eat her), it's all the little animals who road on her broom with her who come to her rescue!! She repays them by concocting a witch's brew that will make them all a new, customized broom and away they all go, happily ever after!!

This is a great book. My 1 1/2 year old loves it and my husband and I love to read it to her. It is delightful in both the verse and the illistrations. My daughter carries it about the house, sometimes she wants it to be read to her and other times she'd rather look at the pictures and read it herself. I have sent it as a gift and recomended it highly. Sometimes when my daughter is napping I pick it up and read it to myself.

I spend a lot of time reading books to my kids and love when a story has a great rhythm and flow to the words. If you have to read something 1000 times in a row it is so much better if it doesn't feel like a giant mouthful. My daughter loves the story and memorized most of it quickly. She absolutely loves bellowing out "Back off that's my witch!!" Definitely recommended.

My two and a half year old daughter loves this book, and it's a great read for parents too. It's clever, fun, and the rhyming is witty and engaging. The pictures are bright and keep my little girl interested all the way through to the exciting fiery conclusion! We've read many of Julia Donaldson's other books, and in my opinion this is even better than the Gruffalo.
