Rosie

They say that life is a beautiful lie and death a painful truth. They're right.
No one has ever made me feel more alive than the guy who serves as a constant reminder that my clock is ticking.
He is my forbidden, shiny apple.
The striking fallacy to my blunt, raw, truth.
He is also my sister's ex-boyfriend.
One thing you should know before you judge me;
I saw him first. I craved him first. I loved him first.
Eleven years later, he waltzed into my life, demanding a second chance.
Dean Cole wants to be my bronze horseman. My white knight has finally arrived. Hopefully, he isn’t too late.

Dean

They say the brightest stars burn out the fastest. They’re right.
She sets my mind on fire.
All smart mouth, snarky attitude and a huge heart.
In a world where everything is dull, she shines like Sirius.
Eleven years ago, fate tore us apart.
This time, I dare it to try.
Getting to her is a battlefield, but man, that’s why they call me Ruckus.
Rosie LeBlanc is about to find out how hard I can fight.
And conquering her will be the sweetest victory.

Ruckus is a complete standalone and a part of the Sinners of Saint series

Vicious DESTROYED me last year, and gave me one of the biggest hangovers ever, so I was dying to read RUCKUS. Unfortunately, LJ Shen made me wait almost 5 months to read Dean and Rosie's story. But it was well worth the wait! This book is filled with so much witty banter and sass between Dean and Rosie. I loved it! It was swoony, romantic and very emotional, especially at the climactic last part of the book!
Dean's attitude and behavior grated on my nerves so effing hard in the beginning. At points I wanted to punch him in the throat and slap him sideways. Rosie, I didn't really know how to feel about her as the heroine of the story, seeing as she was Millie's sister, and she was dying. But LJ Shen makes. it. work. Because she's a magician with words and a wizard when it comes to making awesome books. As usual, LJ brings to this book a carefully crafted plot (complete with unexpected plot twists, of course) and unique characters that leap off the page.
So why only 4 stars? If you've read my review of VICIOUS, you know I floved that book so hard I would've given it 1,000,000,000/5 stars. It was one of my top reads of 2016, and unforgettable and jaw-dropping. RUCKUS, for me, didn't have the same book hangover inducing quality. I felt like too much of the book went back and forth, explaining Dean and Rosie's back story (how they loved each other in high school, but couldn't show their feelings), and some parts I had to skim through to get to "meatier" bits of the plot. It was fun to see all the Hotholes together (can't wait for Trent's story), and amazing to see Millie and Vicious getting married, but all of those side stories about the dramas in Jaime and Trent's lives got distracting, and I wanted to see more of the main couple facing crazier challenges and overcoming them.

Shen has nailed it! Beautifully written words at the very beginning of the novel would eventually make sense to me, and the first paragraph of the prologue which was not how I would expect a novel to start, left me speechless. But I liked it. A lot. From there on in, it was a matter of how fast I could read without missing out on the tiniest detail of Dean ‘Ruckus’ Cole and Rosie LeBlanc’s story. So hold on tight for a very bumpy ride because the author unravels their story at a dramatically heart-stopping pace. By the time I reached the epilogue, I felt like I'd been chewed up and spat out, and whether I was put back together or not is for you to find out!

In Vicious, I didn't get to see Dean's true colours. He hasn't changed much in the respect that he's still an a-one jerk, spoilt and full of himself. But one thing is for sure, he's a natural protector, unarguably patient and a hot-panty-dropping-problem-solver. He never once contradicted himself. He's not only aware of his traits, but he also lives up to them...even puts on a show if you like. All his shortcomings are revealed in Ruckus and if I mentioned more of them, the list would be longer than my arm!

The author never gave me reason to think he'd change his ways, or make an effort to abstain from his vices and just when I thought all was lost, she offered me a smidgen of hope. Shen’s storytelling tactics glowed when she gave snippets of Dean's backstory in moments of either angst or when the reader least expected it. Despite my eagerness to know more, he wasn't in the slightest bit forthcoming regarding what he'd been through. In due course, the whole truth was revealed leaving me in a blubbering mess.

I was expecting so much out of this book. Like it was THE book I was craving, longing, impatiently counting the days, selling my soul to the devil to get my hands on it (ok, a bit over Dean-dramatic here but I dare you not to be after she f**** your mind for 9 hours straight). I was expecting ... and expecting a lot. And truthfully, something I never do... Anticipation? Yes. Expectations? Too disappointing. Well, you know what? She took my expectations, slapped them in my face with a devilish grin and bit a : "really? You thought I'd settled for JUST this ? "
Yeah... I was expecting a bright shinning sky full of stars. And what did she deliver? The whole f****** galaxy with a musical Maelstrom in the background.

She literally and inevitably made me nonfunctional for 9 hours straight (and wait, I'm confessing something later on).

I'm a impatient reader... I read fast usually but this time?
I totally floated in the book.
When you're rereading the same paragraph over and over ... not because you don't understand, or because its blurry or doesn't make sense.... but because it's THAT good and you want to savour like it's the last finest wine you'll ever taste. I think I've never read a book that slow, never sucked on words the way I did with this one. Never dug in so deep, so intensely, almost forgetting my own name.

It's every colours she mixes up. It's every sparkles she lights up. It's her at her most glorious, most refined yet naughtiest devilishly "pen", conquering you and stealing each of your breath as you drown, as she wins you over and over, pages after pages.
