HASH(0x9d4c63ec) out of 5 stars A few issues.... July 30 2013
By Becky Loves 2 Read - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
*Copy of book provided by author for an honest review*

It appears I am in the minority here with my rating of Ruined By You. I just did not seem to love it as much as most of the other reviewers. There were a few issues I had with the storyline that just had be feeling disconnected from the characters. I am going to do my best to explain theses without spoiling anything for others.

First, the mother. In the beginning we get a glimpse of a controlling mother who is unwilling to loosen the reigns much for her eighteen year old daughter. But the really confusing part is that the mother seems to be all but disappear for most of the book. She is there in the beginning and at the end trying to control Maggie but is missing for the rest.

Secondly, would be the relationship between Haden and Maggie. I could not understand her reactions to him, which in turn caused me not to really see their connection. She starts thinking in terms of them as a couple it seems after they have only had a handful of conversations, which all ended in disaster. I am all about the "insta-love" but this one just felt too rushed.

The secrets. It is obvious everyone is hiding something in this book. The only one that I had a major issue with was Haden's. well, not so much his secret but Maggie's reaction to it. I didn't find it quite believable.

Again, the overall storyline just was not one that worked for me. But I ALWAYS encourage everyone to download a sample of the book to see if it is one that they may enjoy. Because as I have said many times before and will continue to say, no two persons everreadthe same book!

I won this book via a contest and had been pondering buying it for a little bit. To be honest I'm not sure how I felt I know everyone has loved it but I can't say that I did. Granted I have picked up five different books an nothing has held my attention. (serious book hangover). I'm going to be honest the story was great, Haden was alright but I hated Maggie's character and for sure her mom.

Maggie and her mom leave New Jersey to spend the summer in Texas with her mom's family. Her mom is over protective and to be honest controlling and a little crazy. Maggie is always pleasing her mom and lives behind a set of walls. I understand there is stuff goign on wiht her mom but do people not consider communication good? Seriously Maggie is really immature at times and I'm not sure how the heck I feel about this at all. I'm tired of the crazy girl character...heroine if you will. It was good I'm just not sure about it.

HASH(0x9d4c6878) out of 5 stars Half of a book Jan. 10 2014

I have said it before and I will say it again: this is not a book, it is half of a book. It is not part 1 of a series, is half of a single book. If an author can't draw us in and make us want more with a good story (with an ending) and competent writing then don't bother.

HASH(0x9d4c6c38) out of 5 stars Doesn't make very much sense Jan. 19 2014

This book didn't make much sense at all. The ending is a cliffhanger, so I expected to have something questions . . . but I wound up questioning nearly everything up until that point.

Maggie is a young woman. In her last summer before college, her mother convinces her that the two of them should go from their home in New Jersey to visit family in Texas. They haven't seen this family for years, but they don't seem that focused on spending time together. Her aunt and uncle aren't even in town and she basically ignores her grandmother to spend time with her cousin, who is around her age.

Out of nowhere she is offered a job to find a headline group for the "Battle of the Bands" contest at a local bar. Scotty, the owner, wants to find a big band. Now Maggie is new to the area, doesn't seem that interested in music, and has no professional background. So why is Scotty putting this entire thing in her hands and offering her a huge amount of money to make this happen? I thought maybe the author would wind up explaining it, but she never does. A guy hanging out at the bar offers to help her with the job. It's clear that Hayden is hiding something and that "something" is obvious to anyone with a brainstem, but Maggie remains oblivious until the final pages.

Despite the fact that they never really talk or spend much time together, Maggie falls in love with Hayden, thinking that he's a "part of her." I get it. Adolescence is drama, but it was just so fast, even by teenage standards, that I was left scratching my head. I know the big thing in NA romances is that the heroine has to be damaged, preferrably by some huge trauma that wasn't her fault. We're teased by what this trauma is throughout the entire book. It's major enough that Hayden can't even lean in to kiss her without her screaming her head off. The big reveal is . . . disappointing, to say the least. Honestly, it's unfortunate, but not something should make someone think they can't ever be in a relationship.

The whole thing leads to an ultra-predictable cliffhanger ending. Will Hayden and Maggie be able to find a way to love each other despite Maggie's daddy issues? Will the "Battle of the Bands" go awesome despite the fact that Maggie knows nothing about the entertainment business or music? Will Hayden ever stop letting Kyle hang around him despite the fact that any idiot could see he's a jerk? People who care can pay to find out the actual ending, but I think I'll just skip it.

HASH(0x9d4c6be4) out of 5 stars 3 1/2 Really.. It was an okay read Aug. 19 2013
By Joanna - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
When I first started reading this, I said to myself, "another predictable story-line", but every time I tried to predict what was going to happen, it didn't. So I was wrong, not predictable at all.

I want to first say that this is a very "Sweet" and "Good" read. I usually like to read something with older characters since I myself am an older person.

Once I got started into the story I was hooked. It made me want to know what is going to happen next. I am not sure if it was truly the story that kept me hooked or the way the author wrote, but I did enjoy the read, even though it bothered me in several areas. There are a lot of unanswered questions at the beginning and you want to read it to get the answers and once you get some answers, there are more questions.

I enjoyed the connection that Maggie and Haden has. There are some lines in the book that struck me as "highlight" worthy. One was when Maggie says, "Where've you been all my life?" and Haden answers, "Searching for you". It is in a part of the book that makes you fall in LOVE with Haden.

Poor Maggie goes through a lot of angst in this story. She doesn't know if she should still be told what to do by her mother, or does she try to be an adult, but you can tell she is torn as to what she should do. She gets a job and has confidence and then she does something to where she just wants to give up. It is a story that will give you whiplash if you aren't careful.

There are some stories that I have read that you say to yourself that there is just too much detail and information. Then there are stories that there is so much left out of the story that makes you scratch your head. This story has a bit of both.
There are so many unanswered questions, but yet they go into detail of how Maggie and Haden had unprotected sex and her cousin gets her the "Plan B pill".

I don't know. Not a story that I loved, but it was a story that I did have to buy book two to see how it ends. I don't know if that makes me crazy, maybe, but it was worth it for me.

If you are looking for a sweet read that is well written but the story line is filled with "angst" this is a story you should read.
