Product Description

Woodland Creek Series.
30 Authors. 30 Shifter Stories.

Frankie Aleen, a Doberman-shifter, has lived her life in and out of both foster homes and animal shelters. Without a mentor to guide her through the trials of shapeshifting, she was left to struggle to find balance between that of human and dog. Five years ago, though, she ran away from Chicago and ended up in the quaint town of Woodland Creek, Indiana, at the age of seventeen and finally found a safe harbor. An owl-shifter, Otis Brock, took her in and has been a father figure to her ever since.

Even though Frankie, now a bartender, has a wild, rebellious streak, she feels obligated to seek out other abandoned shifters to provide mentorship of her own. Frankie’s safe haven is threatened, however, when teen shifters start turning up dead around Woodland Pond, and she makes it her mission to find the perpetrator and seek justice.

But when one of Woodland Creek PD’s finest, Detective Gunnar Mason, starts sniffing around, he begins to notice that each of the deceased teens are somehow linked to that of the sexy, mysterious bartender with a sharp tongue. He doesn’t want her out of his sight until he’s sure she’s not responsible for the deaths that are stacking up. Things aren’t what they seem in Woodland Creek and he’s sure that Frankie is harboring a dark secret—a secret that may be the key to solving the entire case.

Will Frankie become distracted from her quest for justice by the handsome detective that seems immune to her powers of intimidation? What will happen when Gunnar discovers secrets that weren’t ever meant to be uncovered by humans?

This was the first book I've read by K. Webster and I must say I was very impressed.

Doberman shifter Frankie Aleen was bounced around from foster home to foster home until she hit out on her own at 12. She was taken in by Owl shifter Otis Brock in Woodland Creek, Indiana. All is well until teenage bodies begin to pile up after being mauled to death. Enter Detective Gunnar Mason he has decided to keep a close eye on Frankie as it seems all the kids had a close relationship with her. What neither expected were the sparks that fly whenever they are in close proximity to each other.

This was a very well written book with an excellent flow. The characters were well defined and I really enjoyed Curly Sue/Suzie.

This was a fairly quick read however that doesn't take away from the story at all. Very enjoyable read. Will be looking for other books by this author.

Running Free by K. Webster – 4 Stars
“It means that I’ll never love another. That I’ll be one-hundred percent devoted to you. I’ll be yours in every sense of the word.”
So I normally do not read fantasy books but I wanted to give it a try because I love “Give Me Yesterday” by K. Webster and I have to say surprisingly I really enjoyed this book.
The story is about a shifter, Frankie who was in and out of foster homes and eventually ran way and settled in a town of Woodland Creek. She was taken under Otis’s wing - who acts as a father figure to her. Frankie has a big heart – she seeks out other teenage shifters and takes care of them. Until one day tragedy strikes and several young shifters’ lives were taken. Frankie is determined to find justice for her friends. It is then that she meets Gunner, a hot human detective. Gunner is strong and protective and he is intrigued by the young Frankie. There is something about her that he cannot resist.
“You’re my missing piece, hadanka. My other half. My whole heart.”
Running Free has a nice balance of a cute, sweet love story with a little mystery and action. The story flows nicely from the beginning to the end… there is no break or boring moment – once you start you want to find out what happens next. Who kills the shifters? Can a shifter and a human get together? Will Frankie and Gunnar have a happily ever after?
“I knew you were mine the first time I saw you.”
K. Webster does not disappoint. She can write pretty much everything and make it sound good
If you are interested in paranormal romance give this book a try! If you are not a paranormal romance fan – give it a try anyways. This book is well-written.

5.0 out of 5 stars A first for me, but not the last... Nov. 18 2015

This was my first Woodland Creek book and the first of K. Webster's books that I have read. It was also the first book I have read with dog shifters. Very interesting.

Frankie and Gunnar are a cute couple. He has a thing for figuring out puzzles and she is definitely a puzzle to him. There is someone or something out there killing kids that Frankie knows. It is actually because of her or is it just an unlucky coincidence? Only time will tell, but Gunnar is a cop and plans on finding out asap.

I really loved this story and all the people in it, including Luca and the family that Frankie gains. I will have to read more of the Woodland Creek books soon and also find more by K. Webster to add to my library.

I was given an arc for an honest review.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Little women like yourself shouldn't be answering the door to the big Nov. 15 2015

"Little women like yourself shouldn't be answering the door to the big, bad wolf at two in the morning."

Coming out of a bad situation and relationship, Gunnar Mason thinks he has just met the woman that can turn him every-which-way-but-loose. He has no idea how true that is. Frankie Aleen is different in every way. She is bossy, hot, and has no time for the game of love. Until she meets Gun. He pushes every one of her buttons, including the one that goes straight to her libido.

"I'm running free. Nobody controls me now."

Written in dual points of view, Running Free was a shifter story of finding love through and in spite of personal differences. It combined the fantasy of the shifter world with the reality of the human realm and created a story filled with mystery from past, present, and leading to to the future. I loved how gentle, yet alpha Gun was with Frankie, and the sweet name he used to tell of his love for her. It was a great treat when Author K. Webster brought in the concept of imprinting, especially with a character that seemed so unlikely to embrace that. The secondary characters also offered am interesting part of this story line and revealed to us more tender and possessive sides of our main characters. I am hopeful we might see more from that at some time in the future.

"When all this blows over, I don't care what kind of animal you're still mine and I love you."

4.0 out of 5 stars Welcome to Woodland Creek Nov. 15 2015

Welcome to Woodland Creek where everything may seem normal but it is not what it seems.

Frankie is a snarky, no holds barred heroine. She is wild but has a nurturing side. She went through shape shifting at a young age and by herself. She now guides young shape shifters on how to deal with their abilities and how to balance life. Gunner is running from a past. He is not only human but also a detective. Gunner has wanted Frankie from the moment he sets eyes on her.

K Webster has a way of writing characters that will draw you in. Even though all the shape shifters are different animals they stick together and protect each other. As murders rock the town Gunner is out to find the truth. When he does will there be a chance for Frankie and him to be together. Will all the people that are important to Frankie be taken from her? As the story progresses you see some similarities in Gunner and Frankie's pasts.

Suspens, action, steamy romance, and the importance of family is what this stories entails. If you like paranormal this is a great story, even if you don't you will still love this story.

I received a gift copy in exchange for an honest review.

5.0 out of 5 stars K Webster killed it! Nov. 15 2015

I loved this book. Woodland Creek is collaborative series with over 30 authors I've only read Running free by K. Webster so far and it was great. If you love paranormal books, stories about shifters or happily ever afters then this is the book for you.
Frankie has had a hard life. She was raised in the Foster care system and placed with not so great guardians. At the age of 12 when she just can't take it anymore and decides to run away, she finds herself in a very unexpected situation. Francie's life continues to suck until she meets Otis at age 17 and moves to Woodland Creek.
During a series of brutal murders Frankie meets a sexy cop named Gunnar that she just can't get enough of! Will Gunnar be able to accept Frankie and the town once he uncovers the secrets lurking around???
Running Free was a great story and K Webster did an amazing job creating her characters and writing something that pulls you in. I can't wait to get my hands on the rest of the books in the Woodland Creek set.
