Everything that could possibly be said about this monumentally important documentary has already been said, so I won't repeat it. What's great about this particular addition is the special features, especially the interviews with the film maker, Claude Lanzmann, and the interview with the Sobibor inmate who took part in the uprising and escape. The interviews with Mr. Lanzmann give the viewer a broader understanding of his strategies and perspectives in creating his masterpiece, and the Sobibor inmate interview provides a fascinating and never-before-seen insignt into the unspeakably brutal world of a nazi concentration camp, together with the little-known courage and bravery of several remarkaby ingenious inmates who literally took on Goliath and won. One can never really learn enough about the Holocaust, because each individual who endured it experienced it differently, but Shoah is by far the most important cinematic resource from which all serious research should begin.

I saw this excellent documentary when it first aired on PBS all those many years ago. It is something that disturbed me to my core and tore my heart out. I haven't yet had time to watch these 955 minutes , it only just arrived last week. However, I will be watching it over a long weekend soon and will be giving it to my adult son for he and his children to watch when they old enough and ready, to teach them about this horrendous time in our world history. My own mother, family, friends endured the London Blitz and most made it through the war. My father was a 21 year old Canadian soldier overseas for the entire war. To this day, I cannot believe we, the world, allowed this to happen. So many people dead because of some little Nazi madman and his cohorts and sheep like followers who believed and followed him. I will NEVER visit Auschwitz, nor any other death camp. I will make sure I do ALL I can to see this heart wrenching and horrific thing to teach my child and his children to NEVER allow this to happen again. My son has made an excellent start. That the hatred continues to this day is so disturbing, it's endemic, happens everywhere.
already made a good start. This is a must see documentary for every person of conscience and especially those WITHOUT one.

One of the CD's doesn't work. Can I get it replaced at no further expense at my end. This was a birthday present for my husband so we were very disappointed that we couldn't watch the first CD.

What did they know and when did they know it and above all why didn't someone stop it earlier.
