Product Description

Jason Crane Book Three "SLEEPY HOLLOW: General of the Dead" is NOW ON SALE!

NOTE: This E-Book edition INCLUDES "THE LEGEND OF SLEEPY HOLLOW" by Washington Irving (full text) and an online MAP of all the locations in the novel.

JASON CRANE just turned seventeen years old.

He's a STAR WARS fan and a history geek. He doesn't believe in ghosts or the afterlife. He doesn't believe in psychic powers or tarot cards. He doesn't believe in the Headless Horseman.

But Sleepy Hollow will change all that. Because Jason Crane has a heritage to claim. Jason Crane has a Gift to discover. And Jason Crane has an old enemy who will RISE HEADLESS AND RIDE.

About the Author

RICHARD GLEAVES had given up Halloween. He was too busy writing and composing theater pieces like Dorian, Oswald on ice, and The Golden Days or winning BMI's Harrington Award for Creative achievement. He was too busy being an adult! But in 2012 the Halloween bug bit hard and he went tromping through the forests and graveyards of Sleepy Hollow. This October, one year later, he will be giving a book signing at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery and reading from this, his first (and very Halloween-y) novel. No longer a Halloween Scrooge, Richard looks forward to five more Jason books and to being able to write off future ghost hunting trips as a business expense.

Rise Headless and Ride was such a wonderful, fun read! An exciting mix of suspense, horror, and paranormal all mashed together to form this epic story placed around the Sleepy Hollow legend but taking place in modern time. Richard Gleaves did such an amazing job with the characters you can't help but love, the villains you despise, the story line that keeps you so interested you could not possible put the book down! I loved every second of Jason Crane's crazy adventures of discovering his past, his Gifts, and the secrets still hidden in Sleepy Hollow, all while just trying to survive as a teenager in a new town! And I loved the second book, Bridge of Bones, even more! I am anxiously, and yes quite impatiently, awaiting the third book!!! Thank you Mr. Gleaves!!! You've made a life long fan in this girl!

This book was an amazing read! I really enjoyed the characters and how they interact. A fantastic story of Sleepy Hollow in modern times. Jason is a loveable character and I really loved the relationship between him and his grandmother.

I wanted to like this book, I really did. And it had a lot of good things going for it -- a retelling of the Sleepy Hollow legend in modern times, a rather engaging protagonist, etc. What spoiled it for me were the impossible-to-believe reactions of the characters to situations. Time and again, something horrendous or seriously unpleasant would happen -- and yet a page or two later, everything would be more or less "business as usual." It felt to me as if the book needed another draft, ideally with a really good editor.

I did purchase the full trilogy because the subject did capture my interest. So far I enjoyed the first book the most and am awaiting the final book which will be out early December

5.0 out of 5 stars The Rational Supernatural Sept. 9 2013
By Jason Lockwood - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
This is one of those stories tailor made for the young reader in people like me. As a teenager, I devoured suspense, thriller and horror stories. The sense of excitement and wonder were what hooked me in those stories as a kid, and Richard Gleaves' enticing new take on Sleepy Hollow, with a geeky but compelling protagonist, drew me in from the beginning.

It would be unfair to reveal too much of the plot, so instead I'll say that the idea of setting this new Sleepy Hollow tale in the modern age was excellent and well executed. Though many of the characters are teenagers, making this story accessible to the YA fiction readers, it also tackles important themes of individuality, rationality and learning to trust one's best judgement even in the face of horrors and self doubt.

In Jason Crane, Gleaves has created a new hero worthy of the title. I LOVED how he threw Jason into one precarious and deadly situation after another, only to watch him come out victorious every time. I look forward to the following books in the series, but until then, I invite readers to savour this one and by all means, tell a friend!

5.0 out of 5 stars The next great supernatural series Sept. 9 2013
By Will the Singer - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
For anyone looking for the next Harry Potter or Hunger Games, look no further. Rise Headless and Ride, the first installment of the Jason Crane series, is an excellently written page turner that will appeal to both young adults and, well, not so young adults. Jason Crane is the last descendant of the legendary Ichabod Crane, of Washington Irving's classic Legend of Sleepy Hollow. When his grandmother decides on a whim to relocate to modern day Sleepy Hollow, Jason's ancestry is called into play. I won't give anything away, as I don't want to spoil any of the many surprises, but author Richard Gleaves immerses himself in classic American ghost lore while adding a contemporary twist to the tradition. In addition, every location mentioned in the story is a real place that can be visited in the real Sleepy Hollow. So it also serves as a kind of ghostly travelogue for anyone who cares to visit the town.

I can't recommend this highly enough. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series. If there is any justice, the Jason Crane series will be the next big thing. I'm already imagining the cast of the inevitable film version!

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't wait for book two Sept. 14 2013
By Chris S - Published on

Depending on what you are looking for in a horror book will really decide how much you enjoy this book (and eventual series). If your idea of horror is the more blood and gore the better then this probably isn't for you. Now on the other hand if you want a book that is one part Harry Potter with a healthy dose of Stephen King (the older stuff) then you are in for some great storytelling.
Pros: It is well written and is thought provoking. There is just enough mystery and suspense to make it hard to put down and when the book is over you are left wanting to jump right into the rest of the series. The characters are well developed and by the end of the story you feel like you know them which only adds to the tension about where the book is heading.
Cons: The biggest issue I had with the book is that I have to wait for the rest of the series. I am serious when I say I had a hard time putting it down and wasn't ready for the book to end. The book also starts off a little slow and the author's writing style was a bit different than my typical reading which took some adjustment but once I got into it I didn't notice anymore.
There isn't much more I can say but if you have any interest in ghost stories, horror, or something a little more adult than Harry Potter then I highly recommend you read the first of the Jason Crane series. I am looking forward to reading many more novels from the author in the years to come.

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't put it down Sept. 10 2013

Great read!
Of course I knew the essence of Irving's Sleepy Hollow but I had never read The Legend of Sleepy Hollow before picking up _Jason Crane: Rise Headless and Ride_ so I didn't know what to expect. Gleaves tells a great story that kept me wanting to keep reading--good characters, evil characters, suspenseful plot.
This book even got me recently to visit Sleepy Hollow in NY, twice--spending hours wandering the cemetery and town brought to life by Gleaves and Jason Crane.
This Halloween, I plan to participate in their Halloween festivities as I recall Jason Crane's adventure.
I'm looking forward to rereading it as soon as possible.
And I eagerly await Book 2.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book! Sept. 19 2013

I received this book free from Bookbub. I love a good ghost story with Halloween right around the corner I thought it would get me in the mood for the Halloween season. I love the Legend Sleepy Hollow at least Disney's version! THIS book was absolutely wonderful, I have found a new writer whose books I can't wait to read. The characters in this book are well-written, the town is so very well described you feel like you are right there with Jason, Joey, Kate and Zef. Even with the story of an old legend it still has plenty of modern day evil mixed in, deceit, stealing, lying and murder. I can't wait for book 2. This is a story within a story, You might want to read it with the windows closed, rusting leaves, full moons and crisp air will probably have your imagination wondering if you might have heard hoof-beats on a old wooden bridge!!
