Get a Carl Zeiss® Sonnar optical lens for rich imagery that will let you relive memorable moments with the clarity they deserve. The large f/1.8 aperture provides for excellent low-light sensitivity and depth-of-field, while a smooth and quiet AF is great for creating movies. An elegant aluminum alloy exterior with a quietly refined black finish is the perfect match for your E-mount camera. Opt for smooth manual focusing with DMF, or try defocusing the background with Circular Aperture for beautiful results. Carl Zeiss® Sonnar optics This is the first Carl Zeiss® lens to be released in the Sony E-mount lineup, employing the legendary "Sonnar" optical design for standout image dimensionality and presence. Aspherical lenses located on either side of the aperture effectively compensate for distortion, while an ED element suppresses chromatic aberration. The overall result is excellent corner-to-corner sharpness even with the aperture wide open, for impressive overall resolution. Circular Aperture The SAL24F18Z features seven aperture blades that form a near circle. This result in a pleasing defocused circular effect on the background of your image when the aperture is set wide open. Large f/1.8 aperture The large f/1.8 aperture is an ideal choice for shooting interiors in low light, as well as for superb background defocusing. Despite being a wide angle lens, The SEL24F18Z allows for 1/4 macro shooting with accurate focus as close as 6.2 inches (16cm). The ability to get close to the subject enhances this lens's ability to create beautifully defocused backgroundswhile providing a strong sense of space. Direct Manual Focus Direct Manual Focus (DMF) allows for direct manual focusing after autofocus lock-on without having to switch modes. In cases where autofocushas trouble locking onto the subject, or when the user wants to focus at a specific point, this feature enables fast and easy fine-tuning. This can be particularly useful for portraits as well as macro shots in

Sorry to spoil it for you but this lens contains no magic unicorn fart, and will not make bad photos any better. If your shots aren't sharp, you probably didn't focus or stabilize correctly, this lens isn't any sharper than any other prime lenses like a $200 Sigma or even a $100 vintage/Chinese manual lens, not in the center.
If you don't have enough contrast, either you don't know how to use the contrast slider, or maybe your lens is dirty. This lens has fantastic coating and produces excellent contrast even into direct sun. But so does any other lens produced in the last 20 years. This one is better than most but only slightly.
If your colors don't look as magical as professional photographs, you simply don't know your lighting. A lens is mostly transparent it doesn't affect color in any significant way. Even a band Chinese manual lens that produces dead looking cool colors can be easipy corrected in post processing.
Basically, do not waste your money if you think this lens will directly make your work better. It won't, improve your skills and knowledge instead.
However, this is a fantastic lens in that it will make great shots a little bit better. Your already well utilized bokeh will be smoother more beautiful. Your already sharp focus will be slightly more distinct and detailed. Your already beautiful lighting will be preserved a bit better without post processing.
But I think most importantly, it's a good piece of luxury in that it feels better in your hands, and gives you more street cred with that blue badge.
