HASH(0xa60ac750) out of 5 stars Western Justice series #2 Nov. 30 2013
By M. Carley - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
Waco is a criminal. He has been betrayed by the woman he loved and his best friend. While he is off to war, they run off together and take everything he had. Bitter by the treatment, he ends up on the wrong path and eventually in jail.

Sabrina is a spoiled young woman who feels that she is in control of everything. When her sister starts to show interest in a man the family disapproves of, Sabrina puts off dealing with it until it's too late. Now her sister is gone and Sabrina will do whatever it takes to get her sister back, even if it means teaming up with a criminal like Waco.

We read about the back story of the characters long before they meet. In this book, Waco and Sabrina don't even meet until after halfway through. To me, this makes the book a little too unbalanced for me and it almost feels like two stories that happen to come together later on.

I wanted to like this book, I really did. Unfortunately, this series just isn't for me and I'm sorry for it. This book can be read as a standalone. The first book in the series is called Rosa's Land, and the third book, Raina's Choice, is due out June 2014.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Format: Paperback
This story is the second book in the Western Justice series with the first book being Rosa’s Land. It begins in 1864 in Arkansas and continues into 1870 for the biggest portion of the book. The main characters are Waco Smith, a soldier/outlaw/prisoner and Sabrina Warren, a pampered, rich 24-year-old. There are some supporting characters, but they don’t really add too much to the plot.
Sabrina is always used to getting her way. Her younger sister, Marianne, falls in love with a shady character and Sabrina tells her to not see him anymore. Her sister refuses and runs away with the guy. Sabrina is convinced she is being held against her will and sets off to rescue her. She learns they are headed for Oklahoma Indian Territory, so that’s where she goes. She sees the judge in charge of law enforcement for the area and he has no marshals to spare to help Sabrina rescue her sister. Waco Smith has done a good turn for the prison warden and he is given a conditional pardon for the rest of his jail time if he will help Sabrina retrieve her sister. Waco agrees as he has a personal grudge against the man who has taken Marianne. The journey to rescue Marianne begins, but at what cost?
I didn’t like this book at all except for the descriptions of the western scenery. The story was disjointed, the characters flat and unlikable and the plot unrealistic. The main female character is a spoiled brat and I didn’t feel her change genuine. I’ve read other Gilbert Morris books and enjoyed them, but this one for me was not worth reading. There is a third book in the series titled, Raina’s Choice, due to be released in June 2014. I will probably give this author another chance to earn my interest by reading this third book because of his other good books. I can’t recommend this second book, however.

HASH(0xa60abe94) out of 5 stars Drawn out yet rushed Dec 11 2013

"Sabrina's Man"

"Sabrina's Man" is written by Gilbert Morris and published by Barbour Publishing. It was published on December 1, 2013. This is the second book in the "Western Justice" series; the first is "Rosa's Land" and the third, expected release in June 2014, and is "Raina's Choice."
"Sabrina's Man" is set during the Civil War, which drew me because I had just finished "Gone with the Wind". In hindsight, I should not have expected this to be anything near that classic, but with "Gone with the Wind" fresh it my mind, it made it hard not to compare. The main characters take past over half of the book to be introduced to each other, which made me do a triple-check to make sure that I even had the right book downloaded! This book struck me as childishly written; perhaps it is this author's first book, but the dialogue, characters, and pace of the plot all seemed much less than professional to me. Everything seemed so rushed in the beginning, yet the book took a long time to come together.
Thank you to Net Galley and Barbour publishing for providing me with a copy of this book to read and review. I was not required to post a positive review. All opinions are my own.

HASH(0xa61d3ce4) out of 5 stars A Spoiled Heiress, A Pardoned Con & A Rescue March 23 2014

Format: Paperback
Gilbert Morris in his new book, “Sabrina’s Man” Book Two in the Western Justice series published by Barbour Publishing takes us into the life of Sabrina Warren.

From the back cover: No one steals from Sabrina Warren and gets away with it.

Spoiled Southern belle Sabrina Warren has always been given everything she wants. Her daddy’s money has provided for her every whim and desire. Her toughest challenge is deciding how much time to spend away from her Memphis home during shopping trips to New Orleans. But her pampered life comes to a halt when a vile conman takes something priceless from her—her younger sister, Marianne.

When her daddy’s money can’t buy justice or bring Marianne back, Sabrina takes matters into her own delicate but stubborn hands and heads West to track down the evil outlaw, Trey LeBeau.

Sabrina is not so naive, however, to believe she can do this all alone. But to her disgust, her solitary hope for saving Marianne seems to be Waco Smith, an only slightly reformed ex-criminal himself.

As Sabrina and Waco search the wilds of Indian Territory, will these two unlikely allies bond over more than just a shared mission of rescue and revenge?

Before Gilbert Morris became the prolific writer that he is he was a history professor. So teaching us about history in a very entertaining manner is second nature to him. He was also a pastor so teaching us Christian principles is also second nature to him. In “Rosa’s Land” both second natures become one. I think this is historical fiction at its finest.

Gilbert Morris is an incredible storyteller and really knows how to write a Western. If you remember on one of The Magnificent Seven movies the character, Chris, goes to prison to recruit his six men and if they survive they get a pardon. Sabrina needs help to rescue her sister however there are no available Marshalls to help her. The prison warden agrees to pardon Waco if he agrees to help Sabrina. Now we have a story filled with tension, anxiety and revenge. Both Sabrina and Waco both have their issues that only God can change them from. And if they want to work together and survive they also need to learn to trust each other and then they can respond to their budding romance. I have been reading everything by Gilbert Morris for a long time and I have to say that this may be his finest work. He makes you care for all the people involved and takes you along for the journey. This is also just plain fun and exciting as well.

If, like me, you have read everything ever written by Gilbert Morris then you are going to love this book. If this is your first reading of anything by Gilbert Morris you are going to love this book. “Sabrina’s Man” is a very fulfilling read and I am looking forward to the next book in this series.

Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from Barbour Publishing . I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. Waco left his partner and the woman he wanted to marry when constricted into the last year of the Civil War by the South. He returns to find his partner and the woman betrayed him and left him with nothing.

Sabrina Morgan came from a rich family and never wanted for anything; she was spoiled, selfish and head-strong. Sabrina and Waco, just released from prison make an unusual pair as romance and rescue mix in an exciting tale of the old West.
