Product Description

From the Back Cover

Saltwater aquariums bring the calming beauty of a tropical reef right into your home and make you feel attuned to nature. But when you're creating a saltwater aquarium, the key is choosing fish, invertebrates, seaweeds, and corals that are in harmony with each other. There are more than 500 species of reef fish to choose from, and some are not compatible. This book is your recipe for saltwater aquarium success. It gives you the basics of setup, maintenance, and design considerations, but it goes beyond that to include:

  • More than 40 specific recipes for saltwater aquariums, including biotope designs (mimicking barrier reefs, atolls, lagoons, etc.) and designs emphasizing form and color
  • A catalog of saltwater fish featuring more than 100 aquarium species
  • A catalog of saltwater invertebrates, seaweeds, and marine plants, covering more than 150 invertebrate types
  • A 16-page color catalog of fish, invertebrate, and coral varieties

In addition to ready-made model designs, this book helps you make your own choices of species that will coexist in harmony in your spectacular saltwater aquarium.

I have kept saltwater aquaria now for about three years and freshwater for many years. This book is ideal for anyone who wants to set up a tank right the first time. It contains detailed charts on compatabilty of most of the saltwater inhabitants you are likely to encounter and also deals with proper housing of these creatures. Lighting and filtration are also covered. Also included are the aquarium models which sets this book apart from others. The models make it possible for even a beginner to follow the "recipe" and have a successful tank the first time. Although the book uses the scientific terminology for all organisms, there is an appendix at the end that references the common names as well as handy conversion charts. Everything considered, an excellent addition to your marine reference library.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor pictures and poor models, no aquarium desing: it is just a big book without good content and without good pictures. May 12 2013

The book do not have many pictures and the pictures are in section completely different of the text, in the end of the book. Then you need to read the text and change to the end of the book to see the pictures.

The sections of aquarium models is just a list of fishes and invertebrates or other organisms that are recommended to add in one aquarium.
This is not really a section about models of aquariums or aquarium desing!

It is just some list of organisms that have some compatibility characteristics.

And there is no pictures of the aquarium models ou designs. It is not a useful book to inspire aquarium models or to create beatiful aquariums.

When I was deciding about to buy this book I had some expectation, but after read the book I hate it!

This was not exactly what I was looking for but does have some good information. It gives a number of examples of how one would set up an aquarium using fish and rock or corals, etc. Nice pics of some amazing fish as well.
