Product Description

Once, I wanted to die. That was the night I met Guy.
The strange man with flowers stepped from the shadows and saved my life.

Guy. Dimpled smile. Body of a surf god. Smart and funny. Running out of time.

We became travelling companions through life, ticking off items on our bucket lists. I'd hidden from happiness for years and kept my life under strict control. Guy showed me how to step into the world and experience more, he brought light into the shadows and helped me through the darkness.

I became Phe again. I lived.

There's just one problem.

We fell in love and this wasn't part of our plans.

I thought we could face the future together, but Guy has a secret which changes everything.

The Same Deep Water is a standalone New Adult romance set in Western Australia.

ARC won in exchange for an honest review.

I was lucky enough to win an ARC of an highly anticipated book from this awesome author. This is my 5 star review.

For millions of people, living with a mental illness it's a struggle each and every day and a great challenge. Mental issues are not always well understood. Society frowns on what's called different from the normal behaviour. But what's normal? People with a mental illness often live in isolation.

This story is different from what I've read and I love different. I admire an author who is not afraid to write about difficult subjects. Lisa brought me into this story by really creating great characters with well defined emotions and feelings. So much that I kind of felt what they were feeling.

This is a story about Phe who sees herself with no future. She's at the lowest point of her life. Desperation is her only companion. She has a low self esteem, afraid of living. In a moment of desperation, she wants to end her life. But then she meets Guy who makes her want to live again. He brings back her self confidence, hope and a future. He teaches her how to live again at its fullest through a bucket list that they check off together.

Guy his a sweet, loving, happy and full of life kind of man. But underneath all that he has demons of his own to battle. He does not let Phe in. Together they will find a way to cope with their inner demons and move on from their troubled past. They will struggle together and come out victorious.

People living with a mental illness need a strong support system. Lisa brings that in this book. As an health care worker , I know what she wrote was realistic and happens daily for millions of people.

Lyrical, spellbinding, it'll capture your heart and never let go...this book is all that and more.

Most books start at the beginning and save the heroine at the very last moment, but this book is the complete opposite. It starts at the end and ends with a beginning...though let me clarify that, because this book is told in chronological order. This book is a tale that starts when all hope is gone...and yet all it takes is that last moment for everything to change and a story to begin.

I was intrigued by the concept - a young man whose time is running out and a girl who feels like she has nothing left in her life but the end of it, yet working through their bucket lists together...a list of things they want to do before they die. That alone had my attention. What I hadn't expected was to be pulled into Phe's world - which is my home town, so I recognise all of it - like I was caught in the same rip current, carrying me relentlessly along through waves and dangerous undertow to...what, exactly? There's no way you can predict the ending to this one - it's not what you expect, but hope for, and you absolutely have to know.

Phe is a very vulnerable character, yet throughout the book she has a strength that even she doesn't see. Poignant and sad, yet daring to hope and maybe even love...

I read this book pretty much in one sitting, because like any good wave, this is one you MUST ride until the end. Five stars, no question.

5.0 out of 5 stars SIMPLY AMAZING! Aug. 28 2015

I've never read anything bad by Lisa Swallow, but this was absolutely her best work yet! This girl CAN WRITE! Damn! I was completely swept away by Guy and Phe, individually but also a pair <3 Once I picked this book up, I was unable to put it down. My only regret is that I'm already done reading it now and missing the characters...definitely going through some book withdrawal after this one. Can't wait to see what Lisa Swallow comes up with next!

In real life we often need something to dive into that keeps us from thinking about what's really going on. It's the reason I read everyday. Sometimes I stray from my usual read to find something different. Swallow has definitely brought something different in this story about Phe and Guy.
Through personal tragedy and illness they are brought together by fate to help each other through the deep waters into the shallow. How these two finally catch the same wave is truly a miracle. This story is love, life and mental illness at its messiest but I loved it so hard.
Fantastic story Lisa Swallow, thank you for letting me into this world.

5.0 out of 5 stars A beautifully written story with characters that will stay with you for a very long time Aug. 25 2015

*received an ARC in return for an honest review*
It isn't everyday that you read a book that leaves an indelible mark on your heart and soul. The Same Deep Water is a beautifully written story with characters that will stay with you forever.
Guy is a kind, good looking, considerate young man - so full of life. He would appear to be the perfect boyfriend but is struggling with a life threatening illness that has him wanting to complete his bucket list before time runs out.
Phe is a timid young woman who has suffered a deep trauma and is struggling with her own battles with a mental illness. Trying to stay afloat above the deep dark water that threatens to take her under is an everyday struggle for her.
This is where they both meet.....Phe on the edge ready to take her own life and Guy who is the one to slowly bring her back off the edge and into a world where she discovers she can actually LIVE rather than exist. Whilst ticking off items on their respective bucket lists they do the unexpected.....fall in love. But Phe soon learns that Guy is hiding his own the reader will discover and one I don't want to ruin for you. It will leave Phe reeling and have her question everything. It might just possibly drag her back under the deep dark water again.
The Same Deep Water is an exquisitely crafted story that will tug on your heart strings and will most certainly stay with you for a very long time.
You will fall in love with Guy and Phe.....their story is a unique and beautiful one about love and the possibility of overcoming ones demons to finally try to live!
It will hopefully leave you the reader with a better understanding of the daily struggles people suffering from a mental illness go through.
I thoroughly loved this exquisite novel! It will most certainly leave an indelible mark on your heart and open your mind.
By far - the best book I've read this year!
Absolute 5 stars!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful, emotional, poignant, and profoundly touching read!!!! Sept. 13 2015

"Do I make you feel like living?"

Omnia Causa Fiunt. Everything happens for a reason. That simple phrase encompasses and means so much more. There will be moments in our life where we will question the loss, the hurt, the heartache, the pain, the what if moments, and so many others. Friends may come and go. New strangers may appear in your life and change you. Fate could be leading you to a different direction and open your eyes to a whole new world of possibilities. So in a sense, everything happens for a reason, even when we are not able to make sense of it. And in Lisa Swallow's newest release, The Same Deep Water, she reminds us all that we don't meet people by accident. They are meant to cross our path for a reason.

"Do you know what's special about kissing in the rain?... Loving somebody is easy when the sun is shining, but when you're caught up in the storm, you discover who's prepared to stand with you."

Thought-provoking!!! That is the one word that immediately comes to mind when I read The Same Deep Water. This book took my heart immediately and left a mark. It was one of those touching reads that really affected me. It left me feeling so raw, exposed and vulnerable. Right off the opening pages, I knew I was going to experience a whirlwind of emotions since this book really left a strong impression on fate. Honestly, this book took you to a whole new level where it transcends your heart, soul, and mind about life.

"Swimming the same deep water as Guy was hard, but struggling in the depths with him is better than losing myself amongst those who never find their way out of the shallows."

This book is not your typical romance story. It is a story that is centered on two broken people who both have secrets, a painful and saddening past, and who are struggling with living. In a sense both characters are drowning but together they find salvation, healing and acceptance. Together, they learn how to face their fears together and separately. I honestly don't want to spoil the story since this book is about experiencing the pain, the hurt, the disappointment, the happiness, the ups and downs, and the everything in between. So if you are looking for a book, where you are reminded that you were given THIS LIFE because you're strong enough to live it then I highly recommend you to read this book because this book is just a reminder that's it okay to ask for help.

5.0 out of 5 stars *****5 Stars*****These two will grab ahold of your heartstrings and PULL, hard! Sept. 8 2015

Every once and a while a book comes along that really does make a reader invest not only their time reading it, but their mind, heart and emotions as well. The Same Deep Water was the most recent book to do that for me. This is a story about Phe and Guy.

Phe is finally made her decision to end it all and hope for peace after she is gone. She is sitting on the edge of a cliff when Guy comes along and tells her not to jump. He convinces her that her life can’t really be that bad, that jumping is the only answer. He tells her that he really doesn’t want her to jump and in doing so, convinces her to give life a second chance. She is then an item he can check off his bucket list, “save someone’s life”.

Guy has created a bucket list of items he wants to do before he dies, and according to him that will be soon. He tells Phe he is sick, so he wanted to do some things before he goes. He convinces her to start her own bucket list and they will check items off the list together.
They both have a similar item on their lists, “fall in love”. They both know they shouldn’t fall in love, especially with each other. But as each bucket list item is checked off, can they really not?

I had very many emotions going through this book, including loving and hating each of the characters for different reasons. There are a few twists in the book you really can’t predict, but I am glad the two end up at a place they are both meant too. This is a very fun and adventurous romance, but does include mental health subject matter that could be hard for some to read. I did have a few moments I had to put it down to take a breath and remember they are just characters. These two will grab ahold of your heartstrings and PULL, hard! I cried several times, I laughed a lot and felt the love of the story and characters. What a great novel!
