The meat of the story is a billionaire who buys an island, and then sets up a reality show of willing volunteers who battle to the death or to fame and fortune. There are no guns - a lot of swords, armor, morningstars, and spears. We get into the heads of a succession of fighters to see their motives and their different approaches to the nature of bravery and honor.
But there is another story, the story of the reality show with the reclusive billionaire, the sportscaster/ announcer and game designers. And there is the hint of more threads and more plots behind these scenes. All the plots are resolved at the end, in a satisfying conclusion.
I thought this to be a riveting read, with several story lines going at once, set within an exploration of the primal nature of personal combat.

This yarn was a fun romp! Some pretty good plots twists and was written in a smooth and professional manner. A good book for a vacation or a road trip. Just the right amount of entertainment for leaving your stress behind for a little while. I am very glad I took the time to buy it!

This novel commands your attention through the whole story. I want to see it serialized. It would definitely make a great "Game of Thrones" type series. Savage Island
