I've always been a fan of the clean and simple Scandinavian nature and fell in love with this book immediately. The instructions are clear and simple to follow and are good for both beginner as well as experienced crafters. The baby booties make the best gifts and are easy to make by hand as well as by machine.
I recommend this book completely - everything I've made has turned out exactly as the images present, which is no small feat! - and am certain I'll continue to use it for years to come.

HASH(0xa7d424bc) out of 5 stars Linen and herrings and reindeer, oh my! Oct. 6 2010
By Astrid - Published on
Format: Paperback
Highly, highly recommended. The projects are beautiful, and I can honestly say I want to make most of them... starting with the fleece baby boots, and working onto the stuffed reindeer, the herring table runner, the felt Christmas ornaments, and the folky bird cushion. The horse wall hanging was a little less my taste, but the techniques used on there will translate nicely to customising some of the other projects. I also really appreciated the author's tips on how to make do with craft-store felt if you can't find the fancy wool felt. This book will make you want to fill your house with felt and linen, and is probably a wonderful thing to get yourself just before the holidays if you like to give handmade gifts.

HASH(0xa7d42510) out of 5 stars Scandinavian Needlecraft June 25 2010

I LOVE this book.
I LOVE the pictures.
I LOVE the projects.
I made the first embroidered bag.
Modestly challenging but really good directions.
I had to double my felt because I couldn't find felt thick enough but it worked out well because the second layer covers the back of the embroidery.
LOVED the finished project.
I can't wait to work on more!

12/10/15 review: Scandinavian Needlecraft is a beautiful book, with color photos of all completed products, as well as very clear illustrations and step-by-step instructions for making each project in the book. The 35 projects include Bags (e.g., totes and a "log roll" caddy, etc.), Soft Furnishings (pillows, curtains, chair pad, a quilt, etc.), Clothes and Accessories (hat, slippers, mittens, scarf, etc.), Kitchen items (apron, tea towel, egg cozies, etc.), and Gifts and Decorations (wall hanging, stuffed-reindeer toy, gift tags, etc.). The Christmas stockings alone make this book worth having. The book includes a detailed table of contents, an index, loads of templates and patterns, and even an embroidery stitch guide.

I really like the clean lines of Scandinavian design. In fact, I am already thinking about how I might use some of the design elements in this book for other types of projects that I enjoy, such as mosaics, painting, clay work, and so forth. This will be one of the most treasured books in my extensive art & craft book collection. I give it 5 stars and highly recommend it.

HASH(0xa7d42cf0) out of 5 stars Love This Book! Dec 21 2010
By JeannieD - Published on

I really love this book but have one teensy complaint which is why I only gave it 4 stars...I am having a lot of difficulty resizing the first bag and the adult slippers. My printer is very basic and won't cooperate! I then took the book to a Printer and they wouldn't let me resize due to copyright laws. Tried printing on one of their self-serve printers and could not find instruction manual. GRRRR!!! So today I downloaded a program from the internet that will let me resize. Keeping my fingers crossed! Anyone else having this issue?
Other than that, there are many wonderful projects and the instructions for the sewing and embroidery are very clear.
