5.0 out of 5 stars I can't believe how little this costs Jan. 27 2012

The quality of this small trapper is unbelievably good for the money. The handles are made of a corelon or similar acrylic, and are beautiful. The fit and finish is excellent; better than knives I've paid 5 times more for. The springs fit perfectly and have a nice snap. I own more than 400 knives, and I'm quite familiar with good quality and bad.....this little Imperial is very nice.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for the price June 17 2013

This is a decent knife, considering the price. It's not up to the quality of the old Schrade made in America knives, but it works fine and the fit is good, though the finish is a bit sketchy, when you run your fingers over the bolster ends and the springs you can tell it could have used a minute or two more on the polishing wheel. The materials are good, the bolsters appear to be good quality nickel silver, unlike the Chinese Old Timers which have bolsters that look like pale brass, not nickel silver. (Nickel silver has no silver, it is nickel, copper and zinc, but it should look like silver and not to be brass colored.)
I was a bit leery about the handles, but they look good on the one I got, kind of like opalized wood. I remember my grandfathers having knives with similar handles they must have got in the forties or fifties.
At the price I'd recommend it

4.0 out of 5 stars Suprisingly Good Quality! Sept. 17 2014

There is little comparison to the last decades of Imperial knives from Ireland. For the price this blows them out of the water. Welcome to the Global Market.

Fit and Finish, polish, mating of materials from handle scales to bolsters is 7/10, scales are a deep polished celluloid that are darker day-to-day than what is in the product photo, giving the look of polished buffalo horn. Slip Joint action is 6/10. Positive engagement and snap. Slightly softer on the spey blade. The kicker isn't pronounced on the blades so letting it snap closed with full force lets the blades barely hit the axis point of the spring, putting a nick in the edge. Might just be my example.

The blade steel seems to be 7CR17Mo stainless with a good heat treat. Blade grind is nice, largely satin finish, marks evident but not pronounced. (Period Imperial were stamped from sheet with only final bevel grinding) As delivered the edges were modestly sharp. I shallowed the bevel on a diamond stone and used a lapping film to get both blades hair shaving sharp.

Also of note, no marks of country of manufacture on the blades.

If you want an a small classy looking trapper, this is certainly a good deal. The price/value is insanely good. A good kick around knife, or possibly as a pocket knife for someone that loses things frequently.
