from Chapter 1
The Right to be Rich
Whatever may be said in praise of poverty, the fact remains that it is not possible to live a really complete or successful life unless one is rich. No person can rise to his greatest possible height in talent or soul development unless he has plenty of money. In order to unfold the soul and to develop talent he must have many things to use, and he cannot have these things unless he has money to buy them with.
The object of all life is development. Everything that lives has an inalienable right to all the development it is capable of attaining.
A person’s right to life means his right to have the free and unrestricted use of all the things which may be necessary to his fullest mental, spiritual, and physical unfolding—in other words, his right to be rich.
In this book, I shall not speak of riches in a figurative way. To be really rich does not mean to be satisfied or contented with a little. No person ought to be satisfied with a little if he is capable of using and enjoying more. The purpose of nature is the advancement and development of life. Every individual should have all that can contribute to the power, elegance, beauty, and richness of life.
The person who owns all he wants for the living of all the life he is capable of living is rich. Nobody can have all he wants without plenty of money. Life has advanced so far and become so complex that even the most ordinary man or woman requires a great amount of wealth in order to live in a manner that even approaches completeness. Every person naturally wants to become all that he is capable of becoming; this desire to realize innate possibilities is inherent in human nature. Success in life is becoming what you want to be. You can become what you want to be only by making use of things, and you can have the free use of things only as you become rich enough to buy them. Therefore, an understanding of the science of getting rich is the most essential of all knowledge.
There is nothing wrong in wanting to get rich. The desire for riches is really the desire for a richer, fuller, and more abundant life. And, that desire is praiseworthy. The person who does not desire to live more abundantly is uncommon. And the individual who does not desire to have money enough to buy all he wants may not be living to his full potential.
There are three motives for which we live: we live for the body, the mind, and the soul. No one of these is better or holier than the other. Each is desirable, and neither body, mind, or soul can live fully if one of the others is cut short of full life and expression. It is not right or noble to live only for the soul and deny mind or body. It is wrong to live for the intellect and deny body and soul.
We are all acquainted with the loathsome consequences of living for the body and denying both mind and soul. We see that real life means the complete expression of all that a person can give forth through body, mind, and soul. No person can be really happy or satisfied unless his body is living fully in every function and unless the same is true of his mind and his soul. Wherever there is an unexpressed possibility or an unperformed function, there is an unsatisfied desire. Desire is possibility seeking expression or function seeking performance.
A person cannot live fully in body without good food, comfortable clothing, warm shelter, and freedom from excessive toil. Rest and recreation are also necessary to his physical life. He cannot live fully in mind without books and time to study them, without opportunity for travel and observation, or without intellectual companionship. To live fully in mind he must have intellectual recreations and must surround himself with all the objects of art and beauty he is capable of using and appreciating.
To live fully in soul, an individual must have love. And the expression of love is often frustrated by poverty.= An individual’s highest happiness is found in the bestowal of benefits on those he loves. Love finds its most natural and spontaneous expression in giving. The person who has nothing to give cannot fill his place as a husband or father, as a citizen, or as a human being. It is in the use of material things, that a person finds full life for his body, develops his mind, and unfolds his soul. It is therefore of supreme importance to be rich.
It is perfectly right that you should desire to be rich. If you are a normal man or woman you cannot help doing so. It is perfectly right that you should give your best attention to the science of getting rich because it is the noblest and most necessary of all studies. If you neglect this study, you are derelict in your duty to yourself, to God, and to humanity. You can render God and humanity no greater service than to make the most of yourself.

English being a second language to me, reading this book felt like a chore at first even though I did find some parts really great and deep. It was really after reading it though that I realized how amazing this book truly is. I couldn't get it out of my head and I found myself thinking about it daily. The Science of Getting Rich is far from being just about money, it's about the riches of the soul, the mind, the body and the wallet, it's about Faith, purpose, science and God. I was always an atheist before this book but this brought spirituality and "God" into a whole new perspective to me and I recommend it to everyone.

This is a book about building a state of mind that will help you be creative and industrious toward the objective of getting rich.
This book is almost esoteric. It literally tells you that you mind can prints its ideas on the physical world.
I was surprised when I started reading it. It was not what I was expecting. Yet I found it useful as a purely motivational book.
This book is about giving you a belief that your mind can change the world. It is a very useful belief.
But for the book to be effective, you have to be ready to be open to process its content without any barrier.
Consider it self hypnosis toward getting rich.

When you come across a book with a title like The Science of Getting Rich, you may be forgiven for suspecting that it is a greed manual by an author of questionable motive. It is worth keeping an open mind, however, as Wattles’ classic is essentially a metaphysical work that deals with a very earthly issue.

I am in love with this book, this book talks a lot about law of attraction but in a different way. This book is for people that already have knowledge about law of attraction, It makes so much sense and all the things he says are amazing. I learned a lot from this! It is like my bible

The title may be catchy to those who seek for more wealth, but it also digs in so much deeper into the truth behind manifesting anything in our lives. This book easily explains concepts I’ve read through many self growth, spirituality and inspirational books in a practical way that can be applied to anyone’s life.

As I recall this book was about living a better life with an improved financial situation and also more abundance in other areas. A worthwhile read but not especially easy to follow from my point of view. Good luck to you!

I have read quite a few books like this recently - Napoleon Hill - Earl Nightingale - Bob Proctor,,,,, This book is short with short chapters - Earl nightingales '' The strangest secret'' is similar in that it is a short book but concentrates on mans journey through life without thinking about his job, money and happiness too deeply and just accepting the rat race - '' The science of getting rich'' needs to be read few times for certain things to make sense ,,,,,,, The message I am getting from all these books is that if you have an idea about Business, Employment or how to make your life better in any way just do it and get the result, Don't wait - If it fails just try again or try something different but keep on going , '' One step in the right direction is worth a hundred years of dwelling on it ''

I have been collecting books of this kind for a long time and have over 100 of this type in my library and my advice is to give it a miss.
On the one hand it adopts a mystical approach to the topic while at the same time asking the reader to refrain from supporting charities or doing any charitable work. It is rambling and shambolic and lacks focus and direction.
Spend your money on Napoleon Hill, Jim Rohn, Bob Proctor, James Allen or David J. Schwartz...you'll be glad you did.

One of the best books on Mind power, thinking and developing mind to get rich.
Reviewed in India on July 11, 2019Verified Purchase
This book is actually available for free everywhere and is very easy to download. The book is only 20 pages long and I love this book because of its arrogant writing. In the first chapter itself, the author tells you that he will not try to convince you of the science and logic behind the theories he is going to present you in the book, and you have to accept them as they are on faith.
This book has been a direct inspiration for the documentary “The Secret” by Rhonda Byrne and the book “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill and tells you everything as rules rather than philosophy and tells you that if you want to become rich than the guidelines mentioned in the book has to be followed as it is rather than being doubted upon.
The book confidently claims that the theories mentioned in the book if followed step by step with extreme belief and faith can make you achieve whatever you want to achieve in life.
The book deals with the method that whatever you think and say has meaning and just by manipulating with your thoughts and words inside you can actually change the reality outside. Most people think that what they are thinking does not have any meaning but whatever they are thinking of is actually creating a reality for them. The book tells that the mind is actually divided into two parts - conscious and subconscious mind and whatever data is fed into subconscious mind starts to come true with time with a due process of repetition.
The book does help and the book is really a guide for anyone who dreams of ever becoming rich. I think that most people who have read the book found the book to be ludicrous because they would doubt the authenticity of the author and whether what he is telling is true or not.
Again the entire theory seems like wishful thinking where anything that you think can come true which was also the basis of “Law of Attraction” preached in the documentary “The secret”. The documentary told the same things but they explained it better with the help of examples and personal experiences of people to which people responded more positively.
The book, however, requires multiple reading before it starts affecting your psyche and I have read it multiple times to claim that it has helped me tremendously. I was never a big earner but then I gave two years of my life to know more about the fact that how to get rich and along with the theories of Napoleon Hill, the advice of Sir Walter Wallace mentioned in this book helped me in earning more money every year.
I feel more in control of the mind. However, controlling your mind is not an easy thing to do and there are multiple books written on the same subject. An entire science has been developed to understand the subject and two scholars from Standford has actually developed a method in which you can reprogram your mind to make it think whatever you like. It’s called NLP, the full form of which is Neuro-Linguistic Programming. A free mind, in my opinion, is the more prone to negative thoughts, which this book advocate, is the biggest hurdle when it comes to becoming rich. Lack of self-belief and trust in oneself is the reason one does not trust things outside and hence ruins his own life by doubting every other thing in this world.
I would suggest that whenever you read this book, read it with an open mind and try to follow rules for three months at least before discarding them forever. They may not work for you, but I still reiterate that just because they won't work for you does not mean that the bits of advice given in the book are not valuable. They have worked for me and I really hope they will work for you too.
