All in all a good product even for uses which it wasn't designed for :)

Using this thunderbolt adaptor, I managed to achieve around 150-155 Mbs. I was hoping for about 170-180 Mbs.
So obviously there is an improvement over using USB 3.0 but not that drastic of an improvement. Especially when you consider the price. I still like the hub though, as it can be used for other SATA drives and I hope that with a faster drive (7200rpm or SSD) it can be achieve faster read/write speeds.
With an SSD drive the read/write speed was over 250MB/s
After a few months of use, I noticed that occasionally the drive will eject itself and I have to physically unplug and reconnect it to mount it again. This has only happened a few times.
Still see it as a good buy, although pricy.
I'm editing this review after more than a year of owning this adaptor. I'd had random system freezes and restarts for a couple of weeks and had no idea what was causing it. After eliminating all other devices, I finally disconnected the Seagate adaptor and the random restarts stopped happening.
I also couldn't daisy chain through the adaptor. It works when connecting an extra display but would not work when connecting other thunderbolt devices. Therefore, the downgrade from 4 stars to 3 stars.
Now that you have a 2nd monitor up and running drop and Seagate Backup Plus drive of any size on this Adapter and you have the perfect Time Machine backup solution!!!
As noted, you must install Seagate's drivers for drives over 4TB, even on Macs. This caught me at first when trying to use my second drive because I'm not used to installing drivers, but I quickly figured it out. Seagate even puts the drivers on a USB stick that are included.
Even if you don't have the accompanying Seagate enclosure for a HDD or SSD, this adapter connects over SATA, so your existing drives will still work, albeit they'll be unprotected and sag a bit. I find the enclosure easy to find on other shopping sites.
* Thunderbolt is really fast
* Adapter makes it easy to hot-swap different drives
* No internet is required for drivers, as they're included on a USB stick
* Did I mention Thunderbolt is really fast?
* No one reads instructions so its hard to figure out you need drivers for larger drives.
* Way too expensive, even after dropping in price
* They don't even include a Thunderbolt cable
All in all, if you're willing to pay for speed, I would pick this up. Otherwise, you might want to stick to USB 3.0.
