One hard drive qualification effort. One hard drive platform to choose from. One hard drive with trusted performance, reliability, and simplicity to deliver the lowest total cost of ownership.

You no longer need to choose between low power drives, mainstream drives, or performance drives. One hard drive with 7200RPM performance and capacity points from 250GB to 3TB makes it easier than ever to choose the right drive for any need.

The Size and Performance You Want
The Size and Performance You Want

You get more bang for your buck with 1TB per disc technology. Increasing the capacity per disc means the highest capacity drives like 1TB, 2TB and 3TB become more affordable, needing fewer discs to meet your capacity needs.

Your drive is up to 45% faster than the last generation thanks to Seagate OptiCache technology. OptiCache technology combines the latest advances in hard drive microprocessors, DRAM, and proprietary caching algorithms resulting in great performance improvements for you.

No-Hassle Transition to 4K Technology
No-Hassle Transition to 4K Technology

You don't have worry about the transition to Advanced Format 4K technology with Seagate SmartAlign technology. With SmartAlign, 4K drives look and act just like legacy 512 byte sector hard drives which makes your adoption of Advanced Format simple.

Maximizes Hard Drive Storage Densities

You get reliable read/write performance even in tough operating environments with Seagate AcuTrac technology. AcuTrac represents new advanced hard drive technology that can accurately control reading and writing on these "nano-sized" tracks spinning at 7200 RPM, even in high-touch environments, such as an all-in-one PC with loud music booming through the speakers.

You can now use Barracuda 3TB hard drives even using legacy PC BIOS, or Windows XP with free DiscWizard software. The free DiscWizard software allows you to configure your system to access a 3TB drive, even on legacy PC BIOS systems or Windows XP. It's a safer, more cost-effective solution for installing 3TB hard drives.

Bought this Seagate to replace the 1TB hard drive of my HP Pavilion Elite bought at Costco in 2010. (Old drive was slowish, sometimes booting w/o reason+ failing checks with Intel Storage technology program, diskdrive get status command and Crystal Disk SMART report-and giving 'b-up yr files immediately' warning messages )

New hard drive works fine, swift. Switching the hardware is child's play: unscrew, unplug, plug, screw. Unfortunately my old drive images, including factory image of 2010, (with five corrupt files unfixable by sfc command) obtained with Windows or Acronis True Image+ bootable rescue media (better than Win image/repair disk ; w/o track zero) were unable to transfer a usable Windows7 on the new drive. As a last resort: Microsoft Service techs online despite their expertise were also unable to recover a fully operative Windows 7 when allowed remote access to my computer. The transferred to new hd-drive Windows 7 would not allow Win updates and only provide limited functionalities; my 2010 Windows 7 was a validated genuine Windows 7 but it is not identified as genuine (although it appears as ''validated'' on computer properties screen) on the new hard disk. Under pressure of Microsoft techs, I ended getting Window$10. To be continued.

I've owned this for a grand total of a day and, unlike some very helpful reviews on this already, I cannot get down to how awesome this is as I'm not a huge expert on Hard Drives. However, from my small use of it so far in the build I am doing, it runs rather well.

Pros
-Boot ups are quick and with ease ((as there is nothing on it yet to hinder its performance)).
-Easy to Set Up into Drive Cages ((that is assuming you have the proper drive bays for it to fit in the drive cage, otherwise I'd say you might want to invest in one of those as well))
-Rather quiet ((again, nothing really on it so nothing to really make this mechanical drive purr yet))
-Massive storage ((1TB isn't a lot anymore but certainly better bang for the buck then buying a 500gb))
-Came neatly packaged with an anti static bag for added protection

Cons
-Neatly packaged but lacking sufficient protection ((literately packed into a bubble wrapped envelope. Not in a box, just an envelope, some bubble wrap inside, and the hard drive in its bag. So glad Canada Post where I live has handled this with care as I doubt it would have survived a hit)).

However you choose to use this Hard Drive for, whether it be a build for someone else or personal use, I do highly suggest this. Easy to use, provides sufficient storage space and is made with great care.

This is a dandy of a drive. Quiet, fairly fast, so far I can't complain, in fact I,ve been working with these products for a while and if you run this type of drive for 5 hours or so a day, you should expect quite a long life out of them.

Working fine so far, but does make a loud spinning noise from time to time that does not sound normal. Seagate hasn't been the best brand for me over the past 5 years, so we'll see if it withstands the test of time. If not, I'm permanently switching to WD. As for now, the seller was good and the item arrived new and on time, so no complaints aside from the sound.

Just to let those having issues with not recognizing the full 3TB, that's because Windows, by default, will format the drive using an MBR (Master Boot Record) partition table - this type of partition is limited to only being to handle up to 2TB. You need to format the driver as a GPT (GUID Partition Table) and the 3TB will be recognized.

I had the same issue with these - it's not an issue with the HDD itself, but with the formatting that Windows (and probably other OS's) use.

Drive exactly as stated. no problems. Would have been nice to know that no cables come with the drive. If I didn't have others lying around I would have been upset to have to wait for a cable to be shipped. All in all I don't think I saved any money by buying through Amazon after shipping and taxes.

One of them has been in my computer and powered on for over 6100 hours, to date. The other disk serves as a backup and is constantly being manipulated between an USB3 casing and wherever I store it until the next time I need it. The SMART data is all good on both drives and they shouldn't give up anytime soon. They run cool, they're silent, they're fast. I've got no complaint whatsoever.

Keep in mind that the "issue" that makes the drive appears smaller is common to all larger drives on Windows - and it can be fixed in about a minute following simple steps. It is not specific to this product or vendor and probably shouldn't influence your decision to buy.

Seagate and Western Digital have been dominating the hard drive market for like a decade now. This Seagate Barracuda is just another WYSIWYG quality product.

2.5 years use and works great but I would recommend setting Hdd to keep active if you are using drive as a storage.(Windows sys settings). Has a power saving mode and causes a slight delay in seek times if allowed to spin down. Since I changed that setting it works perfectly and is very fast.(for an Hdd).
