Review

"Strong romantic suspense . . . The serial killer subplot is not new, as the copycat has been done before, but Nora Roberts makes it seem fresh with her incredible writing skill as she uses the Search and Rescue canines as key elements in the exciting story line. Readers will enjoy Ms. Roberts' entertaining Puget Sound thriller."
-"Midwest Book Review"

"Roberts deftly packs the plot of her latest supremely satisfying novel with plenty of sexy romance, high-stakes suspense, clever dialogue and fascinating details about Search and Rescue dogs."
-"Booklist" --This text refers to the Mass Market Paperback edition.

It was a very good book. I liked how right to the end you didn't quite know if the killer was going to get to the last person to be killed. It made you read and had you read more just to see what was going to happen. I enjoyed the book very much

Although there were no real surprises in this by-the-numbers romantic suspense/thriller, it was a okay
story if not great. The overly sarcastic relationship between the two main characters didn't really appeal to me as I just didn't see any real emotional investment between them. I've read better, more exciting books by her but this was just okay.

Wow. What a dud. Almost a hundred pages before any of the lyrical writing you expect in a Nora Roberts novel, and then it disappears again. A rude, crude anti-hero, and a woman foolish enough to think she loves him. Not a recipe for a happy marriage (or a good book).

Having just read two of her early novels, both of which I couldn't put down, this one was a cruel contrast and took a month to slog through. It left me wondering if the author was half sloshed when she wrote The Search or just in the middle of a messy divorce. Save your money--her early books are all good ones, and not a trace of the cynicism that plagues this one.

A book I saved for my cottage vacation, "The Search" presented Fiona and Simon, my favourite Nora Roberts couple yet (but maybe Colt Nightshade is my favourite character - definitely favourite name). These characters, and Roberts' comfort food prose, made up for a serial killer that got more boring as the story continued and for scenes that seemed to have been written to show off Roberts' research (e.g. "Small Dog Syndrome").

I read Nora Roberts books before and on average appreciated them. However this one after 200 pages of dog training 101 and no action, in my opinion, is a page turner for tne wrong reasons. In fact if you skip 10 to 15 pages you will invariably pick up where Fiona and Simon exchange insignificances while observing on the surrounding dogs. You won't miss anything. I could not finish this book.

t
The underlying story was good but, as a dog lover myself I thought there was way too much info about the dogs.

I'm not a huge "dog person" (I like them well enough, but I'm definitely a "cat person") and even I have fallen in love with this story & how N.R. incorporated all of the dogs throughout it.
Dogs aside, the plot is fantastic! Love the "murder mystery/thrill" aspect of it and the sexy parts interspersed throughout.

Loved it, couldnt put it down, the perfect balance of suspence/drama and love story, my favorite kind of read, Nora Roberts is my favorite writer, I love knowing that at the end of the book the characters are going to be happy but I love the drama and mystery end of it as well, Nora always manages to have just enough of both
