Now that I have this set in my hands, I'm happy to say I'm not disappointed! Since others on here have listed the episodes contained, I will describe some other things.
There are seven DVD cases, each containing three discs. Each case has unique and colourful artwork, with all the episodes contained on each disc listed on the back and inside covers. The disc themselves also have colourful labels which match the artwork shown on each individual season's case. The DVDs come in a nice looking, sturdy cardboard display box that looks great on a shelf. I'm quite impressed.
This really comes down to personal opinion. The video quality, as far as I'm concerned, is perfect. If you watched this show when it first aired or on reruns during the 1990's, it will look and sound exactly as you remembered. The audio is crisp and clear, but the video has as obvious film grain to it. To me though, this only adds to the experience of watching this program. The odd/spooky soundtrack combined with the old (but clear) footage is really part of this series' charm. I really couldn't imagine watching In Search Of... on a high definition print with the film grain removed anyway, and I think it would ruin the experience and atmosphere.
The disc menus are fully animated as well, with video previews and the theme song playing in the background.
These are the original episodes, as they first aired in the 70's-80's. That means that the studio shots of Nimoy, opening credits and closing sequences are all original, as is the music. If you watched the Bigfoot episode broadcast in 1976, you will see the exact same episode, as it looked and sounded back then, on here.
I think for the amount of content provided here (3312mins of programming) and the quality of the packaging, this set is a great value for anyone interested in the paranormal/mysteries, or who was a fan of this show growing up. Sure, most of these stories and theories have been solved or debunked by now, but that doesn't affect the entertainment value of these shows. Check it out!
* You get the entire original series run with the 90's reboot episodes starring Mitch Pileggi (X-Files)
* Nice production values for DVDs and box
* Inexpensive price for what you get
* The episode quality is still grainy as you may remember it from the 1970`s....nothing has been restored
* Only available on DVD....
* I was missing disc 1, Season 1....Amazon sent me a new set but this was a bit of a drag. Thanks to Amazon for being so professional in correcting the manufacturer`s error.
The studio has also confirmed that the 19-DVD set will include all 144 installments hosted by Leonard Nimoy. Also included are the Rod Serling-hosted specials which aired prior to the start of the regular Nimoy series. As a special bonus, VEI is also including all 8 episodes of the short-lived 2002 series, hosted by Mitch Pileggi. A special feature also includes a documentary hosted by Leonard Nimoy himself.
