This is Johnny Gabriel's second book and I had to have it. I also have the first one, they are both beautifully done books, with delicious recipes. I had the pleasure of meeting the author at her restaurant. She is a lovely down to earth lady. I highly recommend both of her books.

Second Helpings is a wonderful follow-up to her first book, Cooking in the South. Her recipes are simple and classic, but there is one the caught my eye and my sweet tooth... Chocolate Italian Cream Cake!!!!! Divine!

I love this cookbook. The recipes are delicious and easy to follow. However, i would not really consider this a southern food cookbook. You will find these recipes served in the south, but you will find them else where. I consider them more mainstream. The book has beautiful pictures and gives you a little history of why the author chose each recipe. The book is very heavy on desserts, almost half the book. I wish they would have incorporated more main course meals.
