Got this free with Audible, narrated by Ben Stiller.

Extremly short book, only 15 minuites in length, but it's still wonderful that I was given this free without even having to sign up. I didn't realise that you could get offered deals like this from amazon/audible, it's really wonderful that they do sometimes have deals like this.

Haven't listened as such yet, but iv previously read this story while ago and heard Ben stiller read some other titles, so I'm looking forward to listening to this. Obviously will update review in a bit, but for time being I'm marking 4star

5.0 out of 5 stars The incredible lightness of humor Dec 25 2013

The short storiness of James Thurber's brilliantly lit moment in time is truly wonderful. Since it was written in 1939, to highlight the wispy nature of one man's substance along Main Street, America, the story is meant to be here one moment, then gone. In many ways, the fact that it's "too short" is sort of the point. Many thanks to James Thurber's daughter, Rosemary, for allowing this story to become an ebook. Presumably the timing relates to Hollywood once again (first with Danny Kaye, this time with Ben Stiller) making a full-length movie out of a short story moment. I think that's fine, too. Many moviegoers will search around on their Kindle for this story to experience the original in its original form. Light and delightful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gem of a tale Nov. 26 2014

This snippet of cozy brilliance by Thurber is his best short story ever, a story that makes the ordinary feel extraordinary. A story that gives the reader open permission to do the same in their life. A way to take a trip in your coziest chair without more than simply using your mind.

Walter Mitty is a regular chap who likes to day dream a few times a day; his adventurous second life is rich and riveting and so often interrupted by his whiny wife and life’s demands. Without worry he’s able to perform his tasks while shuffling his head dreams as if one was shuffling his ipod or playlist walking down a crowded street or working away on their computer with their head in better places. Mitty does his best to balance his wonderful imagination with the daily grind, even if his life isn’t too hard, his mental happy trips seem physical to his wife who is on a whole other plane ready to take his temperature. This is a delightful story that can be read and re-read in a short amount of time and it will always be delicious and imaginative.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected...but, fun!! Jan. 8 2016

Genre: Humor

As I was looking for a new book to read, I came across THE SECRET LIFE of WALTER MITTY. I had heard of it before. In fact, I have seen the original movie version made in 1947, starring Danny Kaye. And, I'm given to understand there is a newer version starring Ben Stilled.

Since I usually prefer to read stories before they've been made into movies--even though I had seen the Danny Kate movie--I thought, "this will be a great book to choose this time".

After buying the book for only ¢99, I was tickled to get started. Imagine my surprise to discover that it was only 15 pages long. Lol. I had not realized it was a short story.

It was actually a cute story. I enjoyed it. At this point, because I've read the "book" and enjoyed it so much, I think I'm going to have to watch both movie versions. Just for the fun of it.
5.0 out of 5 stars My Second Review May 5 2014

My first review of this short story was in 1964 or 1965 in high school. The teacher's comment about my review was merely a question. "Did you see the humor in the story?" To my total embarrassment, I had not. I was a class clown, always telling jokes, but I did not get the humor. Why? Because I was living this every day. To me it was a story of my reality. All these years later, I can read it and enjoy it. It kind of has a Snoopy feel to it. Living in a fantasy world to allow you to do the things you cannot otherwise do. A short read but a good one.

5.0 out of 5 stars a good read May 3 2014

I first read this in grade school many moons ago. Since this was a free bee, I thought it would be nice to see if I still enjoyed it. I did, and I believe others will too.

It's a good short story and after seeing two movies based on it, it's still better to use your own imagination. Like folks always say, the book is better than the movie.

Enjoy an old classic from time to time, and this is a good one.
