ThreeandHalfStars
I fell in love with the characters in this book. They felt so real and had distinct personalities that were easy to follow and connect with. The growth they experienced helped them progress through a plot that blew my mind. The romance and love between Rhett and Kaden was apparent and endured through the turmoil they dealt with. This plot was intense and kept me on the edge of my seat through to the end. The twists and turns within were amazing and well planned out.

The only reason this book received less than 4 or 5 stars is a combination of some formatting issues (mainly half sentences being repeated here and there that tend to interrupt the flow of the story) and some minor grammar issues (mostly misuse of 'than' when 'then' should have been used). While those did manage to bring me up short for a few moments when they happened, my attachment to Rhett, Kaden and even Pop kept me reading and I'm glad I finished it! Looking forward to reading the next one.

I was given this in return for an honest review by Inked Rainbow Reads.

I really enjoyed the story of Rhett and Kaden. We had a loving M/M couple in a long term committed relationship. They had a lot of bad things happen from bad people, many of them family members, but they never give up on each other or falter in their love for one another. Solving the crime in this story was no easy task and it was difficult to see how all of the things happening linked together so the author had you guessing on how it would get solved right to the end. Thoroughly enjoyed it! On to book 2!

HASH(0xa755b528) out of 5 stars If you plan to use a trope, at least use it well May 22 2015
By Estarianne - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
If you plan to use a trope where an MC decides he can't report a crime because the bad guy makes vague threats against his loved ones, crimes in which women aren't being held as sex slaves are preferable. Reading sex scenes between main characters while ostensibly there are women being held and nobody can tell the authorities because bad guys are bad does not make me happy.

Especially when part of the plot is about a dad who is a murderer because he could have helped his daughter but didn't to save himself and (spoiler alert)...

said daughter turns out to be one of the sex slaves...

Like, sorry you had to spend an extra month being brutalized, but I didn't have enough evidence to guarantee that the bad guy wouldn't hurt me...

Also, an obnoxious number of coincidences and conveniences. Pop conveniently has stroke right when Rhett is telling him, then the phone rings, etc. Meanwhile WOMEN ARE SEX SLAVES! It's like she forgot that part! There is no urgency at all. You're not supposed to be thinking about them. It switches from the sex slaves to another plot line involving Rhett's mom, and you're supposed to have forgotten that not reporting the crime means that the FBI don't have information that could free these women.

ARGH!

I read a Mary Calmes book directly after, and marveled that despite the fact that all of her books have the exact same characters, at least if her characters aren't calling the cops it is for a reason other than "some guy told me he'd hurt me if I called the cops then vanished."

In other news, typing reviews on a Kindle Paperwhite is Not Fun.

HASH(0xa755e1f8) out of 5 stars Loved Kaden and Rhett July 15 2014
By A. Adams - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads Review Team~

Rhett and his husband Kaden have a great life that life gets even better when Rhett’s grandpa turns over half of the family business, O’Neil Airways, to Rhett whose passion is flying. With jobs they both love and a loving relationship, Kaden and Rhett are about to be thrown for a loop. Rhett’s mother who hasn’t been in his life for years tries to wiggle her way back in because she doesn’t think he can handle the family business. While taking on humanitarian work Rhett finds out that not everyone is who they say they are, especially his mother and her husband. This was a good book, I actually didn’t see the story going where it did but it was really good. I only wished the bedroom scenes were a little steamier because I could feel the love between Rhett and Kaden but I couldn’t feel the passion when they were in the bedroom.

Characters: The characters were well written and believable.

Sex: yes but not very detailed or graphic

Religious: no

Would I recommend to others: yes

More than one book in the series: no

Genre: Romance

Would I read more by this author: yes

HASH(0xa769dae0) out of 5 stars A solid 4-star read July 14 2014

You can't help but think Rhett and Kaden's relationship is just so sweet. The two of them just seem perfect together, so comfortable with each other and willing to do anything for each other. This helps set the stage for how their commitment to each other helps them get through the craziness when Rhett's mother tries to insinuate herself into the business dealings of her son and all of the suspense and thrilling moments that come along with the secrets that eventually get uncovered.

The author does a great job of weaving a suspenseful story that keeps you guessing until the end. While this book is primarily classified as a romance, it felt more like a suspense/thriller with romantic elements to me. The couple of steamy scenes are short and not overdone, adding just enough to the story to expound on Rhett and Kaden's devoted relationship and not overpower the main storyline.

The characters are very well-rounded, and I think I've settled on Kaden as my favorite...though Rhett is an extremely close second. You'll love the good guys and hate the bad ones-as you should-which to me means the author did a great job at crafting them and making you become invested in them.

18+ for those steamy scenes, and a solid 4 stars from me!

HASH(0xa7547b40) out of 5 stars Secrets in the Air July 14 2014

Yes, this was a fun story filled with suspense, secrets, murder and more. While that makes the story interesting, what makes this story great is the amazing relationship between Rhett and Kayden and Rhett and his grandfather. Rhett and Kayden have a very established relationship that started as first love over 15 years ago. Kayden’s grandfather is this strong, powerful man who has unconditional love and acceptance of his son. It was great to read a book where there is no question that the couple was meant to be and would be and stay together. Now, that is not saying life was a bunch of sunshine and roses. Rhett has parents that are not what any child deserves, he is mourning and still holds guilt over the loss of his twin years ago. Oh and he just discovered his grandfather does more than own a company and he is requested to join this part of his grandfather’s world. I do not what to give anything away, but if you love suspense filled stories about unconditional love ( both romantic love and family love) this book is worth a second look. Some of the mystery and suspense is not at all realistic, but I think that makes the story better.

HASH(0xa79f3dec) out of 5 stars Overall a good read. July 15 2014
By johanna - Published on Amazon.com

My Rating: 3.5 of 5 Stars

Rhett and Kaden had been together for 13 years but married almost three. They had seen each other way back in high school and never looked at others since. They have a love that is solid, trusting and full of romance that even surprises them. Rhett is a pilot, had been since an undisclosed age for fear the FAA will have words with him and his grandfather and Kaden is a nurse. Life is comfortable and without angst until Pops calls Rhett in for a one on one regarding their business this is when all things change.

Rhett finds himself the co-owner of not only their business but the family estate and this sets things into motion he expected: his mother's unwanted and unsolicited advises laced with sarcasm, threats and malicious intent. You see, Rhett lost his twin sister Annabelle when he was fifteen and this broke their family apart. When his mother chose his fraternal sperm donor over him, he cut all ties and so did Pops.

Rhett finds himself between fire and a brick wall and cannot seem to know what to do or think. He is saved by Kaden who guides him through his actions and in the process, trusting his gut instinct, learn that the truths they'd had to live with were not all that true and the lies were not all lies. Apparently, even high up in the air, there are just too many secrets.

The relationship between Rhett and Kaden is a wonderful read. They are a very, very solid couple and are not afraid to open up to each other. When things go wrong, each turn to protect and nurture the other, especially Kaden. He started off as the nurturer but he is truly a dangerous man when his husband is in danger. His ability to perceive danger and deal with it is truly extraordinary that he is truly the stronger of the two in some ways. Both men are strong, but there is a balance in their strengths: they don't overlap the other and they are co-dependent.

The events unfolding were a bit troublesome but I cannot write spoilers. The tension created by the diva of an unmother is really frustrating and grating at times. Unfortunately, she is a real character as just a simple google search could bring up millions of results - does not mean I like her - and that is truly what makes the writing of this character extraordinarily good. Then there were the revelations which I wanted to explore more but was left a bit frustrated in. I would have loved to read more of the revelations and less of the mother truth be told. The noir feel to the rest of the story successfully manages to ante this suspense/thriller/mystery read a bit and made it really interesting. Overall a good read.
