My dad introduced me to video games when I was four. My aunt was living with us at the time, and when she moved in she brought along her Genisis. My dad rented this game over and over and over for me so I could finish it. I was five or six when I actually wrapped it. No lies. I'm sure I didn't understand it, but I loved it, and I never gave up. Shining Force is a classic RPG. The music and gameplay are fabulous, and even playing it just recently, after so many years, I was still impressed. The music, the characters... Everything joins together to make an incredible game. Shining Force was the first RPG game I ever played, and I rank it right up there with the Suikoden series, and the two Lunar games.

HASH(0x9a356564) out of 5 stars This dinky little game rocks! June 3 2001
By Michael Smith - Published on Amazon.com
this was my first introduction to RPG/strategy games back when i was in grade 5... And i still play it! i've always based any RPG i've played since on how it was compared to this game. I can't really explain what makes it so great, just the way the storyline goes, and the items you can get, and the class changes and characters are all awesome. I love the promotion feature, in which once your character reaches level 10, a class change can occur, and they can use stronger weapons and get stronger spells and each level up is more powerful than the increase you got on levels 1-10. This is my all-time favorite game, along with Langrisser (which was only released in North America on the genesis as "Warsong"). Shining force 2 seemed weaker to me, but also a 5 star game. Highly reccomended to fans of "old time" RPG's. Not as long or complicated as today's games, but still holds the test of time for this reviewer.

Hands down my favorite Genesis game Sonic aside. Easy enough you don't need a manual or any sort of guide to get through the game. plenty of characters to pick from to customize your party as you see fit. tons of reason to replay this game, stays fun throughout the game. Definite own, game is easy to pick up and go.
HASH(0xa457cdbc) out of 5 stars Gateway to console role playing games Jan. 20 2016

I love this i love this I love this !
ok i know its a bit overwhelming and a tad weird for me to say this but heck. This game was literally the first game that introduced me to the world of Role Playing Games on console gaming.
I still remembered looking at the shopkeeper with narrowed am I supposed to believe you eyes , when he was like trying to convince me that Shining Force was da gorilla in the forest of RPG games back then.
All i can say is , i was blown clear out of the water and never looked back.
Sword of light and Sword of Darkness and all the character level ups !
ok end of spazzing
HASH(0x99adb228) out of 5 stars A classic role playing game that stands the test of time Feb. 17 2015
By John Prothero - Published on Amazon.com
From the moment I read about this role playing game in Sega Visions I had to have it. Out of all the Genesis games I have, Shining Force and Shining Force 2 are among the most played. My only regret is that I can't put all the characters on the excursion team in battle at once. You can only have 12 at any given time. You choose the best warriors that will aid you in the battle against the evil wizard Darksol and Dark Dragon. You are the leader of the Shining Force, a young swordsman whose skills improve with experience and a promotion to hero. Together you and your team must strike a blow for victory and defeat the forces of darkness.
HASH(0x997e3f48) out of 5 stars Tactical RPG Feb. 13 2013
By Dr. Doom - Published on Amazon.com
This game is a tactical RPG that is rarely seen anymore these days. The closest thing today you can play to this would be something like Fire Emblem. I have played Shining Force my whole life up until it stopped being "Shining Force" with the last one being Shining Force 3 for the Sega Saturn. I love the Shining Force series for it's rich story and engrossing gameplay. Also, I own all the games that encompass that era I stated previously. If you enjoy the "Shining" games after Shining Force 3 for the Sega Saturn I.E Shining Force EXA, Shining Force NEO, Shining Blade, etc this is not the game for you.

Shining Force 1 and 2 is a tactical RPG where you control up to 11 characters including you, the main character, in battles against the forces the evil in a story that actually do connect to each other if you played every game in the series and get into it. If SEGA was to actually respect the North American public and release the series properly the proper order to play these games are Shining Force 1 (genesis), Shining Force Gaiden: Final Conflict (game gear japenese only), Shining Force 2 (genesis). If you were to play the games in that order you would get a very good story that would leave wanting for more.

P.S. if you look hard you could play the final conflict in english
