Spanning his years as a Formula One race car driver to his untimely death, Senna explores the life and work of this triple world champion and global superstar. Far more than a film for F1 fans, Senna unfolds a remarkable personal story, weaving an unforgettable tale of a modern day hero.
SPECIAL FEATURES: Interviews; Senna Family home movies and Filmmaker Commentary featuring Director Asif Kapadia, Writer Manish Pandey and Producer James Gay-Rees.
Fans of car racing, especially the elite Formula One format, will get a rush from the excellent documentary Senna, a profile of the rock star-handsome Brazilian driver Ayrton Senna. But Senna is a film that all audiences can enjoy--because of its big heart and its engaging portrayal of its star. And the riveting footage of Senna's Formula One races, and his knife-edge daring behind the wheel, don't hurt either. Ayrton Senna grew up in Brazil, where he began his love affair with driving as a competitive go-kart racer at the age of 13. Senna follows young Ayrton's journey into full-fledged racing, and allows Senna's gentle personality to shine through as he begins to make his name in racing circles. The viewer learns that Senna loved the Catholic Church almost as much as he loved racing, and his humility and his ongoing love for his fellow Brazilians, especially those in poverty, would be themes that lasted throughout his life. Senna would go on to become one of Formula One's best and most accomplished competitors ever--and his steely nerves and willingness to take risks on the track paid off in Grand Prix after Grand Prix. Senna, deftly directed by Asif Kapadia (Far North, The Warrior), lets the singular personality and charisma of Senna--and the spectacular theatrics of F-1 racing--tell his story without any forced drama or fanfare. Though Senna's racing career would be far too short, his legacy lives on, and Senna is a gripping reminder of how blazing a talent can be--even behind the wheel of a car. --A.T. Very highly recommended for anyone's racing library.
I have only one criticism. "Senna" requires the viewer to have some basic knowledge about F1 racing during the 1980s and 1990s. Luckily, the Special Features section of the disc is excellent, and I recommend that anyone who didn't follow F1 during that period watch the interviews before watching the documentary. Believe me, it will dramatically improve your viewing experience, and enhance your appreciation of Ayrton Senna's accomplishments. (I should note that I watched a pre-release version of "Senna" which included in the body of the documentary many of the interviews now in the Special Features section. That version was long (3-ish hours), but otherwise very accessible; it's a shame it wasn't also released.)
Whether you're a race fan or not, watch this movie - preferably with your digital audio system cranked up - but stay off the road for as long as it takes you to calm down and not pretend you're Senna rocketing out of the slip lane at the Tokyo Grand Prix. Your driver's licence and car insurance monthlys will thank you.
it in voila its from europe and wont play here i think amazon and the seller should be more upright and tell you where its coming from . anybody want to buy version of this to take back to europe send me an email ha ha
There are interviews, there is (what clearly must be) private Senna family home movie footage, and of course on track moments of sheer brilliance; and his most famous brain fade moment at Monte Carlo in 1988.
I am pleased to have this in my collection. If you were a fan of Senna, this is something you must own.

Pro Senna propaganda. A God of a driver and his life and career are well documented here. But the bias is disconcerting. This is far from a 'warts and all' bio. Read morePublished 18 months ago by Anthony Jenkins
