Amplify your listening pleasure
Eargonomic Acoustic Refinement (E.A.R.) for High Performance

These high-end open circumaural headphones use E.A.R. technology for outstanding sonic accuracy and clarity. Sennheiser's innovative "Eargonomic Acoustic Refinement" (E.A.R.) design channels audio signals directly into your ears. State-of-the-art, advanced Duofol diaphragms deliver transparency and minimal distortion, while highly optimised, field-strengthened neodymium ferrous magnet systems yield an excellent dynamic response. A surround reflector creates an extended spatial sound field for the lightweight aluminium voice coils chosen for high efficiency and excellent dynamics. The special diaphragm geometry reduces intermodulation distortion, while highly constant, compressed cellulose fleece reduces total harmonic distortion.

I've had these phones for a month now, so they've had sometime to break in. I just want to say these are great, extremely comfortable. I've seen people say bad things about the bass in these ones, all I can say is don't listen to those people. This is coming from a bass player of over 10 years, who is obsessive when it comes to bass tone. But not just the bass, everything about these sounds great. Songs that are very vocal heavy sound fantastic, harmonies seem to mesh together greatly. Everything has plenty of room to breathe. Mix these with a good sound card and a high quality audio file and you will not be disappointed. The reason i did not give 5 stars, is because these are mostly made of plastic. I am a person that takes care of my things, but mistakes happen. Other than that, i think these are phenomenal. I did ALOT of research before I purchased these, and I think quite a few people will agree that these are the biggest bang for your buck.

On sale for 99.99 - best headphones for the price period. Anywhere. Canada get's shafted for these kind of things as usual, but with the sale to 99.99, it's on par with the US deals. Very happy.

Price-wise these are the cheapest of Sennheisers high-end open headphones, but that doesn't stop them from being an impressive piece of tech. They are very comfy to wear, have a tight fit, are well adjustable, look GREAT (I personally love the silver grills) and sound fantastic after burning them in (I used a mix of white, pink & brown noise to do so). The cable is removable, another plus, and I was surprised by how large these eargonomic phones actually are compared to photos. These will definitely fit over your ears well and belong in your home studio.

Sound quality is of course the main highlight of all music listening devices, and certainly so for the HD 518's. The sound is vibrant with details, letting you very clearly listen to just about anything as if you were right there in the studio/audience. My biggest fear with these was that their preference for mid's and high's over bass would make them unfit for bass-heavy music, yet they still sound fantastic upon testing! If all you care about is dirty sub-bass, maybe I would look at other headphones, but the overall richness of these phones soundstage is definitely worth the cheap price and there's almost nothing else to be picky about. I upgraded to these from the closed HD 280 PRO's and I'm more than impressed. Well done Sennheiser.

Sennheiser is quality brand name in headphones so if you don't know anything about headphones these are a great pair to start out with. They are an open back design so you can hear what's around you with the sound off. They are not crystal clear quality but not bad. They are more on the bassy side than the analytical side. They are comfortable enough that you can wear them for a long time without problems. The ear pads are nothing special. They are a felt material and are pretty stiff, but they do well preventing sound from bleeding out of the cups. The cable is fixed and cannot be removed/replaced which is a con. It is quite long, which is a good thing for some, but not for others. And it has a 3/4" jack so it will need an adapter for most gadgets. This make the jack very cumbersome.

I recommend doing as much research as possible before forking over this kind of cash for anything so don't solely rely on this review. For example, many other reviews say that the 558s are worth the extra $$$ but unless you have both pairs to directly compare, you won't know or even care what you're missing. These sound great in their own right which makes them a good value overall.

A very great product, of course its not cheap but it has very nice quality sound and is VERY comfortable. That , coupled with a zalman mic simply hanging on the top of my screen, made my headphone time while playing games a very nice experience, AND the wife sleeps better :D

When it comes to headphones, I like it comfortable, lightweight and of course a good soud quality. That's what you get with these headphones. I can wear them for hours without any issue.

One thing, they come packaged with a regular jack 1/8 adaptor but using it on, lets say, an ipod, the plug is so big it looks ridiculous and can easily destroy your sound output pf your device.
You'll have to buy a cable separatly if you plan on using it on portable devices. If it's for you PC, then there is not much of an issue since you plug it in the back of it.

Still, these headphones deserve a 5/5 they deliver an incredible sound experience for the price asked.

A great buy at this price point! I use it for listening at home and detail is amazing. The great thing is the bass is not actually so bad. Build quality is also great, though it mainly composes of plastic, and it is quite comfortable to keep on. If you do compare it to some higher end ones, you might be a little disappointed because there is a bit difference in clarity when you get to the high volumes. It is an open headphone so you will get sound leakage; on the other hand, it will sound as if you are enjoying a live performance. Overall, it is a great choice at this price point (< $90).
