Product Description

My name is Devin, but everybody calls me Sketch. I opened my own tattoo shop two years ago, and I’ve finally gotten to the point where I’m going to be able to give my wife everything she’s ever wanted. I’m going to be able to take time off and spend a day a week with her. In fact, tonight, I stopped and grabbed some wine, got her flowers, and those chocolates she likes.

What I wasn’t prepared for was to be met at the front door by her carrying her sh*t out.

She loves me, but she’s not in love with me anymore. What kind of bulls*it excuse is that? I’ve left her alone too often, I’ve been completely focused on one goal, and apparently she’s sick of waiting.

So here I stand. Half the man I was, p*ssed as f*ck, because while I was busy making a better life for us, she was under the impression I was leaving her lonely. I know one day she’ll see what I’ve been doing has been for us, and when that day comes… She can damn well come crawling back to me.

*****This is a full-length stand alone romance! Please ignore the page count! *****

ARC given in exchange for an honest review.
I was intrigued when this book came onto my kindle. I love Laramie Briscoe's Heaven Hill series. I am a sucker for ink stories as well. And this was, well, it was amazing. It was so different from the other stories out there. Its a couple that are already together - so the traditional angst-y "does he like me or not" isn't there. And that is so refreshing. It was solely about the couple and their quest to figure out if they are meant to be. Its captivating! It makes you want to fall in love with your partner all over again!
This book took me 3 hours to read.
I recommend it if you enjoy: Chelle Bliss, Aurora Rose Reynolds or Maya Banks.

HASH(0x9c9a45dc) out of 5 stars Should be Better **Spoilers** Jan. 21 2016
By thirty-five - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
I don't know if I like what the author was implying.

The writing was good, and Sketch was developed well for this to be such a short story but I don't think Nina was. The story was clearly biased toward Sketch being in the right and Nina being wrong. They both had things they should've worked on, but the author implied that Nina was spoiled and spent all his money. But she worked, so I would assume some of the money she spent was hers? Also, while the home was nice it was only a 2 bedroom - if they planned to have kids, why wouldn't she voice her concerns with the space? If she likes the color yellow - why wouldn't she want to paint her favorite room that?

I think Sketch assumed more than he really knew about what she wanted. He stated she always wanted to spend money but that's only because her father said he expected her husband to provide that. Yet Nina was clear that she wanted him. Why would anyone be surprised and not accept some responsibility for never being present in a relationship? She was portrayed as a one dimensional bad wife. She had to come to him to make it work because he was hurt. It was almost as if him never being around should have been acceptable because he is trying to "provide".

I also don't buy that she wasn't really involved in his life. He mentioned she supported him in the beginning, then she had no clue about some of the most basic things in his life. I do think they loved each other. I do think a lot of the reactions were spot on. I do believe that they grew apart. I just didn't like the implication that someone should be willing to accept when a partner isn't present because they are making money.

On another note, this was way too short for it's cost. It had so much potential but was lacking in certain areas.

Copy provided by the author in exchange for review

I loved the premise of this book, Sketch is about a couple that have been together for 14 years. They have grown apart and Nina has decided to leave Sketch because she feels he is more concerned about his job than her. Sketch needed to be the man, the provider, protector, and give Nina the world but his wife didn’t get that. It seemed to me that Nina was a spoiled child and I couldn’t connect with her. She turned to spending money and pampering herself because she couldn’t get what she wanted from Sketch. I really didn’t side with her in the story; I felt she could have made an effort to understand her husband and what he was trying to do. While I think Sketch could have put in more effort with this wife at times they both lost the ability to communicate effectively.

I think I needed more depth to enjoy this story. I think that if we could have had some more background on them as a couple, maybe a few scenes in the past I could have invested in them more. If the author had shown some stuff leading to the breakup rather than telling me I think that would have helped also. I did find some of this story enjoyable but the writing came off as a little choppy so it didn’t flow well for me.

HASH(0x9cee5540) out of 5 stars This should be labeled NOVELLA OR SHORT STORY. Took me an hour to read. Jan. 23 2016

I think that the premise was good. I read that page numbers were wrong and it was a full length book. It was short...short...short. It could have been expanded with more detail. They broke up then they decided to work on getting back together. Told mostly from his POV. Chapters were short...short...short. I think it took me an hour to read this. I would not have paid $3.99 for a novella...but I guess I just did. Had difficulty connecting to both characters because it was so short...short...short. Disappointed with length, price and lack of characters depth. Again this should be labeled and sold as a NOVELLA OR SHORT STORY.

HASH(0x9cbc4234) out of 5 stars Must-Read Romance for All Couples Jan. 21 2016
By Book Babe - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
4.75 Stars

Devin Solomon aka Sketch just watched his wife, Nina, drive out of his life. Proclaiming the marriage over, Nina feels like they are no longer a couple. And in a lot of ways, they aren’t. While initially devastated, Sketch learns that what he thought was his perfect life wasn’t so perfect after all.

This book is really a journey. It’s emotional but not somber, and it’s about struggles but not angst. It’s probably the most real story I’ve read in a long time. It didn’t feel contrived as it avoids using all those standard troupes that are way too prevalent in many romances. There’s no inflated OW/OM drama. This is simply about a marriage in trouble because they’ve lost sight of who they are and what they truly want. The issues that Sketch and Nina have aren’t overblown plot-driven issues and they aren’t silly misunderstandings that could easily be remedied with one conversation. While Nina and Sketch do have to learn better communication, their marital problems are far more complex.

Can this marriage be saved? is the question posed. And there’s two sides to every story. Marriage is a partnership; it’s about working together. And if you want it to work, you have to put in the effort.

Now don’t go thinking that this is only about a troubled marriage and the downfall of a relationship because it’s really about so much more than that. It’s also about finding yourself and doing what’s right for you which in turn is right for the both of you. It’s about breaking things down and putting the pieces back together.

And holy cow is it sexy too. I’ve never read about a nearly divorced couple who know how to find the intimacy again like this. It’s touching; it’s steamy; it’s bittersweet; but most of all it’s real. I would definitely recommend this one to any couple married one year or twenty years or who haven’t been married yet. It’s thoughtful and has a great message. Told mainly from Sketch’s first person point of view with a few small sections from Nina, it’s so much more than just a second chances love story.

HASH(0x9d0b1924) out of 5 stars Not worth the price Jan. 25 2016

Argh where do I start. The blurb for this book was good and I was looking forward to reading this. The last few books in the author's heaven hills series have been disappointing and I was hoping that this book, with its different theme, would be a really good read. It failed to deliver.
The book glossed over the couples story, it was one sided and boring.
If the author wants to charge $3.99 they need to learn how to develop their story better. There are a lot of books out there at this price or less that have a better developed story.
$3.99 for 140 pages is expensive especially when you compare it to a Lauren Gilley book. All her books are extremely well written with great developed story lines. Her last book was $3.99 for 532 pages that kept you engaged.
