Product Description

A rally for a controversial presidential candidate.
A terrorist threat.
A nightmare of cataclysmic proportions.

Jack and Pamela Crittendon have hit the breaking point. After months out of work as a reporter, Jack is playing Mr. Mom and working part-time at Festival Arena with his survivalist friend Brian Shakespeare. Meanwhile, Pamela has gone back to work full-time while eight months pregnant. Having her recently widowed mother on hand isn't making matters any easier.
With financial pressures boiling, Jack reports for duty at a rally for controversial presidential candidate Martin Sterling where he expects a mindless night on the job. But when Homeland Security picks up intel about a potential terrorist threat, Jack and Shakespeare are thrust into a life-or-death battle to save their own lives--and the lives of thousands of innocent people.

This third book in The Crittendon Files reminds us of the power of family, friendships and faith--and why we are never in as much control as we think.

I will be honest with you - I think that I forgot to breathe for the entire first half of "Sky Zone". Though I have loved the first two books in "The Crittendon Files" series, this third installment in particular had me gripping the pages and completely ignoring the demands of life around me. With each chapter, Mapes expertly builds the tension in the story with such action-packed scenes that it left me feeling like I was watching a movie play out across my mind! I loved getting reacquainted with Jack and Pamela Crittendon, watching them work through the significant challenges they are facing and learning to rely on faith in God. They are as real as you and I, facing uncertain futures, financial pressures, troubles in their marriage, fears about their children. I am impressed that Mapes has ratcheted up the suspense with a terrorist threat that has you fearing for the lives of the characters, and still has managed to weave in some deeper themes along the way. I hate to say more about the plot itself because I don't want to give anything away, but rather let you be fully immersed into this suspenseful read. But I will say this - it left me second guessing going into a stadium any time soon! As with his prior books, Mapes writes with a sure hand, with characters you wish were real, and a story line that makes for pulse-accelerating reading. And, you will be left with the reminder to live in the moment, to remember what truly matters in life, and to acknowledge that God is at work in the world around us, bringing good from the darkest of situations.

I, for one, hope that there is more to come in this series. I highly recommend this book and rate it 5 out of 5 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Breathtaking new thriller by Creston Mapes! June 4 2014

I've never read a full-length novel in one day - until now. SKY ZONE hooked me on page one and left me breathless 438 pages later. It's THAT good. It's Book #3 in The Crittendon Files, but it can just as easily be read as a stand-alone title. The main character, Jack Crittendon, could be your next-door neighbor or mine, which makes him much more likable than the normal lead character in most thrillers. He's got a wife and family, another baby on the way, and a cantankerous mother-in-law now living with them. To make matters worse, he lost his job as a reporter when his newspaper folded several months ago. Which is how he ended up working part-time as an event staffer at the Columbus Festival Arena when terrorists took control of the crowd gathered to hear a strong, anti-terrorist presidential candidate. Let's just say Jack Bauer could learn a lot from Jack Crittendon! But any description I might attempt would never adequately do the story justice. I don't know how Mapes does it, writing such riveting, suspenseful stories with so much heart, each one better than the last. I'm literally blown away. You will be too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Reviews From a Man's Perspective June 24 2014

Who doesn’t love a triple treat? 3 scoops of ice cream or 3 different types of seafood or pasta on your plate. Yes, the world is a much better place when you get to enjoy them in threes. And not you get that in the reading world as well. The third book in the Crittendon files by Creston Mapes is out just a few short months after the second book was released. This will make for some terrific Summertime reading if you haven’t read any books in this series. Yes, I will admit it openly and proudly that I just finished both of these books this past weekend. The second book, “Poison Town”, has been in my To Be Read pile since it came out, but I always had something else to pick up to read instead. When I got my copy of “Sky Zone”, I knew that I had a great weekend of reading planned, I just had to find the right weekend. This weekend was it, and I wasn’t the least bit disappointed

Jack Crittendon is back in the third installment of the Crittendon Files. We pick up the story that Jack has now been laid off as the newspaper he worked for has succumbed to the economy and shut their doors. With work scarce to come by, this puts the full-time work back onto his wife, Pam. Pam, now 8 months pregnant, is also maneuvering around her recently widowed mother and making sure that she is taken care of. Jack, in order to get some kind of work, signs up for a rally of presidential candidate Martin Sterling featuring a well-known Christian musician. His hopes of spending a quiet night at the rally ends when terrorists take over the arena. Can Jack and his friend Brian team up to stop the terrorists before its too late? How does Pam figure into this mess? Haven’t I seen that Christian musician before? Take off your earphones and run to your nearest bookstore and go BUY THIS ENTIRE SERIES!!!

Do you ever finish a book and just wonder how the author does it? How does an author put together not one book, but three books that contain such great writing and intrigue, that you can never get enough? In this last book from Creston Mapes in the Crittendon Files, Creston gives us a novel that is current in its theme and relevant to society today. As we grapple with emotions over terrorism and how it can change our everyday lives, he provides us with a book that is emotionally engaging and spiritually inspiring I always try to find a moral or a thought to live by out of each of Creston’s stories. In this story, I feel that he is reminding us of the importance of living out our faith because people are watching us and realizing that what is the most important in life is right in front of us at all times. This is fast-paced fiction with plenty of twisting and turning and more hair-raising adventures. I'm fairly certain that this will be one book that you won’t be able to put down.

Is this a "guy's book"? This is another great “guy’s books” by Creston that should be in every guy’s pile of books to read. With terrorists, adventures, and continuous intrigue this is one book that you will be glad you picked up.

I received this book from the publisher in partnership with the Book Fun Network in exchange for my honest opinion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mapes Does It Again June 18 2014
By Upstate New York Reader - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
Once again Creston Mapes has put together a thriller worth reading - both timely and exciting, the book held this readers attention for the few days it took to read.

The story, with the exception of a bit of backstory told as flashbacks, takes place in a the brief 18-24 hour news cycle of a modern major city newspaper. Supported by the likes of former Rock Star, and now well-known Christian concert performer, Everett Lester, Senator Martin Sterling was now running for President. Both Everett and Sterling were scheduled to attend the evenings campaign even at the Columbus (OH) Festival Arena.

Part of the event's security detail included Jack Crittendon, former master reporter from the Trenton City Dispatch. However, his last major story included details of how his employers had helped cover up the mis-doings of industrial giant Demler-Vargus Corporation, forcing the newspaper to close its doors. Jack had lost his job and had been force to settle in as a part-time (though regular) security guard for the arena. Now, with his wife eight months pregnant, he still hoped for the break which would allow him to return to his prefered career.

But the evening did not go as expected. Jack's wife and family made a last minute decision to attend, so had the 20 terrorists. Though there was some warning of their arrival, details were unknown - and planning for the unknown is difficult. And to make matters worse ... well to learn that one must read the book.

The book could not be put down - I was sorry that sleep was a required part of each night. Those looking for a fast paced thrill ride, Sky Zone will be the perfect book to pick up this summer. As with the other of Creston Mapes books, faith plays a role in the telling of the story, but only to the extent that it makes one aware of the role faith can play in the lives of believers, whether just discovering the mysteries of the faith or the long-time believer moving through life's daily trials.

I will look forward to the next book in this series - Jack now has his new job and his new son - exciting times for all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredibly tense, very satisfying. Vintage Creston Mapes. June 13 2014

I'm in mourning. I hurried through the book to reach the end, find out who the bad guys were, who survives, how life turns out for so many people, and now I'm done. I need more. Creston Mapes has created an addict.

Jack Crittendon and his wife are desperate for Jack to find a full-time job, but all Jack has for now is a part-time job with security at a Columbus, Ohio concert venue. Pam, eight months pregnant, is working, wishing she could be a stay-at-home mother for their other two daughters. More pressure builds with the presence of Pam's mom in the home, who doesn't understand Jack and Pam's need for privacy and is also descending into dementia. Can Jack and Pam's marriage survive these hurdles?

Jack's friend, Shakespeare, has turned his home into a mini-compound, sure the world will come hurtling to an end. When that happens, he and his family will be ready. Question is, will he still have a family to protect when that time comes? His survivalist extremism is driving his wife further and further away with every plan he makes.

Both Jack and Shakespeare are called to work security for the appearance of the senator from Ohio who is running for President. Martin Sterling is a staunch hardliner against terrorists and pledges that much money will be spent on beefing up Homeland Security and rooting out terrorism, should he be elected. Then, the unthinkable happens: terrorists take over the concert arena and Jack and Shakespeare must help figure out how to keep thousands of people safe, avert disaster, and save the lives of the Senator and the famous Christian singer. Jack's nightmare turns epic when his wife surprises him and not only is caught up in the horrors of the standoff but complications ensue.

Who will survive this deadly game of cat and mouse? Faith is put to the test as individuals stare mortality and life (not as they would like it) in the face and decide how they will deal with it. Mapes has done a masterful job in Sky Zone, and the final blow is stunning as the reader discovers who is behind the whole scenario in the arena!

I received this book from in exchange for an honest review.
