Product Description

"The perfect balance of dark suspense and heart-warming romance, this was a book that I could not put down, and loved in all its devastating, gritty, yet unreservedly romantic and compelling beauty."
NATASHA IS A BOOK JUNKIE

"This story is so wondrously written that if I could give it more stars I would. Because even though I am somewhat stingy with my five-star ratings, I’d throw many more at this incredible piece of art in the blink of an eye."
THE SUBCLUB BOOK CLUB

"If there's one thing we can say about Jane Harvey Berrick's writing, it's that she always manages to capture our imagination with the beauty and visionary of her stories!"

DANCE. Guns.
MUSIC. Bullets.
RHYTHM. Pain.

Music in my head, dance in my body, the rhythm of my heart.

How far can you fall in just one month? How quickly can the human spirit be broken? Where does evil hide in plain sight?

Ash wants to dance. Needs it. To leave behind a life of expectation and duty, to set his soul free.
But life is never that simple. Every step is a journey on a new road.

For every action, there is a reaction.

Every choice has a consequence.

And when you meet the wrong person, all bets are off.

Laney tolerates her limitations, pushing quietly at boundaries. But when Ash crashes into her world through rage and violence, it sets off a chain reaction that neither of them expected.

Wow! What a story Jane gave us here!! To e honest I wasn't completely sure what the story was about I just knew it would be brilliant because it's written by Jane and I love her books! I was not disappointed.
The first few chapters of the book were quite hard to read, filled with so much emotion and some very 'difficult' bits in it that were horrible to read but set the story straight away.
This is definitely not your usual love story, it has so many twists in it and some very hard parts to read about but as you read it you get in tune with the characters, they draw you in and you're completely enthralled in their story and I spent the whole time wanting to know what will happen next! It kept me hooked from beginning to end and if I didn't have kids and work I'd have sat down and read it in one sitting lol
A strong partnership grows between Laney and Ash that soon becomes a strong love. I don't want to give anything away but all I will say is that this is an amazing story, it has so much emotion in it and grips you from the beginning!
I would highly recommend this book and cannot wait for the next! 5* in my opinion are not enough!!

Jane Harvey-Berrick is an amazing writer but this book is just something else, from the first page of this book I was hooked. Slave to the rhythm was not at all what I was expecting but I was blown away by it.

Jane has a way of taking you into the pages and making you not only feel the emotions but live them too. The book deals with difficult content but I just couldn't put it down, I felt so many emotions while reading this book but amongst the angst heartbreak and dark issues, it's also filled with a real sense that dreams can come true and true love can win against Evil.

Ash is a phenomenal dancer that thinks he is getting his big break when he leaves Slovenia for the big lights of Vegas, but unfortunately Ash finds himself in the pits of hell with no escape, until after one particularly distressing night when he is saved by his "Sunshine" Laney.

Laney has her own battles and hasn't had the easiest of times either but Laney is a fighter and she injects some of that fight back into Ash and in return he teaches her the ways of his world.

"With Ash I could dance"

Ash comes to terms with his Demons as he learns to dance them away on the Stage and off the stage with his Love.

Laney and Ash's story is heart breaking and heart warming and is a story not to be missed, there are so many ups and downs and twists and turns but the feels this book will give are above and beyond your everyday emotions.

"We did everything backward. But that’s us, that’s our story"

An absolute must read by an extremely talented Author.

Seeing this is Jane's work, I know I shouldn't have been surprised by this at all, but in all honesty, it did, in ways that I didn't expect.

Aside from the fact that this is Jane's work, which generally almost always makes me pick it up sight unseen, so to speak, the cover (gorgeous!) just lured me in further, then the blurb (as if I needed to read it!) just intrigued me. But beyond that, the blurb really gives you just enough without giving anything away.

It ended up being more emotional than I anticipated and I totally appreciated it. It touched on subject that not a lot of people are familiar with yet very prevalent more than one thinks. It touched on the aftermath of horrific events. It touched on what it feels like to live a life that not a lot of people understand or unsure how to react towards, be that coming from lack of knowledge or just plain insensitivity. It touched on finding love despite it all. It touched on acceptance and moving forward.

Laney and Ash met at the most unpleasant time for Ash. Laney became Ash's salvation but in more ways than one, Ash has become the same for Laney. Ash has a noble spirit whether he acknowledged it or not. His passion oozes thru his craft and bleeds everywhere else. There is such vulnerability there that Laney totally got. You can understand his emotional instability brought on by his experience. I understand why Laney felt the way she felt. Laney has a latent strength that not a lot of people acknowledge. Her high spirits are commendable given the hand she's dealt with. She's caring, generous, and beautiful inside and out.

Within the short amount of time that Lane and Ash got to know each other, I believed the emotions that developed.
