Second issue, the beans do not filter into the grinder on their own. They get stuck on the lip of the grinder and you end up with an extremely weak pot of coffee because the machine doesn’t recognize that there’s not enough grinds to make a full pot. So I have to stand in front of the machine every time I make coffee each morning and push the beans into the grinder - EVERY TIME!
Third issue- It still can not connect to my internet. After reading the manual and emailing the manufacturer, it’s suggested that my internet is too “fast” and the machine can not connect to it. I have to go into my internet settings, change technology settings in order to make it work. Connecting to the internet shouldn’t be that difficult. And since it’s not connected to the internet, it beeps continuously every 60 seconds 24/7.
This product was suggested by Amazon when I was looking at machines. Not sure how they came to that suggestion but in this case it was the worst suggestion amazon has provided and the biggest purchase mistake on Amazon.
A couple of pointers:
Always fill the water reservor to the top. It only uses as much water as it needs to make the number of cups you have asked for. This should reduce scaling of the heater element.
The knob on the top left is for fineness of grind. All the way clockwise is for fine and that works for me.
The preheating the water setting causes the boiler water to be warmed up from zero to 5 minutes. I'm not sure what the purpose of this is, but longer preheat times might result in a hotter cup of coffee. This preheating occurs after the beans are ground but before the water is pushed onto the coffee.
Unfortunately you must check the level of beans nightly and manually push them under the little protective 'hat' that sits on top (grinder off obviously). Otherwise not enough beans will fall into the grinder and you will end up with a very weak cup of coffee. I'm guessing the little hat is a safety feature to prevent you from getting your fingers ground during operation. This could be eliminated if they had a much taller coffee hopper. However the machine is already too tall to sit under most kitchen cabinets. If it was even taller it would be top heavy and look weird.
Setting the keep warm time for more than 40 minute.
The default maximum warm time if you use the automatic brewing feature for arrive home or set time is 40 minutes. if you touch the gear button on the initial screen then the coffee pot on the next screen you get to the start screen. On the upper right you can touch the 4 dots and get to the mode and product settings page. Choose setting for manual use and you get to another screen that still offers a maximum of 40 minutes of keep warm. However there is another way!
Go back two pages to the start screen and hit "options" at the bottom. Here you can change strength, keep warm and Bean vs filter. You can also select keep warm from 0 to 120 minutes. I use 90 minutes. These settings are used when you operate the pot from within Google. So I've named my Smartcoffee pot "Coffee" as a network name. I also called it "coffee" from within Google home. Then I added a line to my Google "Good Morning" Routine that says simply "Start Coffee." About 12 minutes later I have coffee. This same line could be added to the google routine that sets off your google alarm in the morning so that it is completely automatic. I prefer it this semi manual way because sometimes I get up before the alarm.
This seems to be a descent machine. Cleaning the grinding mechanism, if it should ever get clogged, could be problematic. I see no easy way to disassemble it.
Even at it's strongest setting the coffee is not quite strong enough for me. I add two small scoops of pre-ground coffee to the filter basket when I set it up at night. This shouldn't be a problem for most people. I really like my coffee strong.
It is NOT easy to clean. The grinder gets clogged and the only way to clean it out is to blindly poke around and get as much out as you can.
Also, the beans don’t always feed into the grinder properly, making the strength of the coffee a gamble each morning.
