About the Author

Jeff Phillips was born in North Carolina, and was raised on southern cooking. As a teenager, he began experimenting with cooking over grills and campfires; eventually he moved on to smoking units that could fit an entire pig! Five years ago, he began compiling all of his expertise onto a website, which has now expanded to include more than 300 pages of recipes and tutorials. Jeff lives in Sapulpa, Oklahoma, on a ten-acre farm with his wife and three children.

Just a few years after I was married, I was given a small Brinkmann smoker-the one that looks like R2-D2-and I set out to learn how to use it. I was determined to make the most of that smoker no matter how many folks told me that it was cheap and hard to use. This sparked in me a love for the taste of smoked meats and a passion for the tools and techniques you need to produce them . . . I will equip you with the basic knowledge you need to produce succulent slow smoked food right in your very own backyard- food that will make you a legend in your neighbourhood and maybe even your town.

Books are the best investment you can make. I've smoked 3-4 items out of this Cookbook and it's added so much to the occasion each time. Awesome recipes and if followed you won't be disappointed! If your looking at this book and considering it and you smoke meats, then buy it.
Hope this helps!

Fabulous, fabulous book. This is one of our favorite "go-to's" for exceptional recipes.
Wonderful recipes with accompanying photos (which I believe always make the recipes all that more tempting).
Highly recommend

What a super cookbook! The author spends a lot of time educating we newbies to the art of smoking. His instructions and suggestions are well written and easy to understand. The author comes across as a patient and well versed expert in the art of cooking in a smoker. Very happy I decided to choose this one over several others I previewed.

This is a great introduction to the art and science of smoking meats. It is very straightforward, detailed in its approach and pretty comprehensive for an actual book. Lots of pictures, lots of recipes and lots of guidance along the way. Its a very good start and I'll use it well.

Being a rookie smoker love the tips in this book, simple, practical with good tips and recipes. Good pictures, I actually sampled about 8 of these types of books from the library before deciding on this one.

This is a great smoking book. It is written by a Canadian which is nice because a lot of BBQ and smoking books are American and sometimes it's hard to find items they mention of in Canada. The start of the book runs through the basics of smoking, and then chapters are broken up by meat types. Some of the tips in here may be contrary to what your smoker manufacturer may or may not recommend. So far I have found all of the tips to be accurate. I have tried two of the recipes already and they were excellent. You can't go wrong with this book!

When you first purchase your smoker it is confusing.what wood to use, how long to smoke, rubs, brine etc.
This book explains it all and there are many excellent easy to follow recipes.
