I don’t mind reading indie novels. I know some people don’t read them just on principle. If you’re like me and can for the most part pass over spelling mistakes, grammatical errors, and missing words, you can give this one a try.

As soon as I read the word dragons, I had to read it. I love me some dragons. This was a high fantasy romance with dragons and a competition for the right to mate him. I read the first two of the series Smolder being the first and Burn the second. The third will be releasing later this year, there is no date as of yet.

I ended up reading both books in a day, don’t judge me, and absolutely loved the series. It’s about a young woman, Marina, who had just lost her mother and was trying to get her feet under her again. Marina had suffered from panic attacks since she was young and after the car crash that took her mother and injured her, Marina was once again controlled by her fear of another attack. Taking her friend Cathyrn and Cathryn’s boyfriend, they go to a cottage for some R&R. On a hike she ends up seeing a wounded dragon and ends up trying to help. She finds out the dragon can shift and that he was from another dimension. There’s a connection with him that was undeniable and she ends up following him to his world; a world where the only way to be his mate was to fight in a brutal tournament to win him. That was basically the premise of the first book and the second one starts where Smolder left off.

I adored this book. I loved the storyline because it honestly is one of my favourite types to read. As this was a high fantasy series, there was a lot of world building that some might find dull, but it’s necessary. I think the Penelope Fletcher’s “voice” or writing was spectacular.

I just lost hours reading a book with no ending...To say that I'm disgusted is an understatement. And no, I'm not going to buy the next one to know what happens. I am certainly not going to support this author's questionable ethics.

The lack of editing is also terribly annoying. Some sentences are so mangled by typos and missing/superfluous words, they don't make any sense. The plot has some originality but it is stretched so thin and so repetitive, I just started to skip whole paragraphs to get to the action.

And to discover that it ends so abruptly? What a waste of my time.

I very much enjoyed the first book of this series and have even reread the book. It is just as good the second time around. But the second book was supposed to be out months ago..... I am having a very hard time waiting as I can see many possibilities as to where the series will go. I want to know what happens to the characters, and the new supprises that we will discover.

A very entertaining read!!! Had a hard time putting this book down!!! The character interactions, storyline and overall story was gripping!!! I recommend this book to anyone who likes dragon shifter books with a feisty heroine and a hero that has all the right stuff!!!

HASH(0xa340072c) out of 5 stars entertaining Feb. 10 2013
By Sadie Forsythe - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
Penelope Fletcher's Smolder is an entertaining read if you are willing to suspend any expectation of realistic behaviour (and I don't just mean because it is fantasy). Marina and Koen are another stunning example of insta-love, granted it's also a case of instant hate too. The whole scenario is made more ridiculous by the fact that she is COMPLETELY unfazed by the fact that he is a dragon. This is where my sense of realism is stretched beyond it's brink. Marina isn't afraid of anything. She is too brash, too fearless, and too loyal to a man she just met. But still it's entertaining enough if you just roll with the punches.

Honestly, even though she is largely too much of just about everything she is also really funny. This kept me reading even when I wanted to yell 'yeah right they would let you get away with that!' or 'Oh, how convenient for you.' Koen is noble, but you don't see much of his personality. It is too buried in being honourable and duty bound, but Daniil and Nikolai are fabulous side kicks. They made the book worth reading.

I was even willing to ignore the book's desperate need for an editor, because though noticeable it wasn't all that distracting. What I was not willing to overlooks is the fact that it ends on a cliffhanger...no that isn't right. I don't consider it a cliffhanger. Yes, the final page of the book is ultra suspenseful, but it isn't an ending. Marina is literally halfway through the quest she set out on. That's not a cliffhanger, that's half of a book! Yes ,Smolder is appropriately long, at roughly 250 pages, but it's only half a story. When did this become the accepted norm? It makes me mad. If I take the time to read 250 pages I expect some sort of conclusion as a payoff before having to wait for the second instalment. I didn't get that here and I am not a happy camper. Still, I want to know how the story ends so should the second one come out before I forget about having read this one I will pick it up.

HASH(0xa37cd1b0) out of 5 stars Not the romance I was expecting April 2 2012

I love dragons and I loved how the author wrote them, however I was expecting a romance.

Spoiler alert: This book did not have a happy ending and I was quite upset with main character suddenly hitting on another man near the end.

HASH(0xa37cd594) out of 5 stars Annoying Book Jan. 31 2013
By KATHLEEN PERKINS - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
I loved this book with ONE exception. I hate it when authors end a book in the middle of the story. I would never have purchased this book if I had any idea that it would not be finished. AND THEN promised that the sequel would be out in 2012 yet it is STILL not released and here it is, the end of January 2013!!!
I will not be buying the sequel when it is released. Who's to say that the story will be done with that one. I refuse to be strung along for years on end just so the author can sell more books. If she wanted to sell more books, rrite additional stories about the secondary characters. I would have loved to find out the ending but now I'm just dissappointed.
I felt cheated with this book and will not be buying anything of hers again no matter how good a writer she is.

HASH(0xa37cde4c) out of 5 stars Not as advertised Dec 10 2013

I bought this based on a recommendation and the number of stars it had. I was not thrilled with the book especially the fact that it has NO ENDING. If you as an author are going to make this a series have some sort of resolution . I don't think I will bother to read a sequel if and when there is one. Not a Keeper.

HASH(0xa37cd2d0) out of 5 stars AWESOME!! March 31 2012
By Linda - Published on Amazon.com

I have to say that I had to calm down at the ending!!! This is an exceptional story! Penelope Fletcher is fearless. The world building is unparalleled. This is her best book by far and I loved all of the others with the exception for the wendigo one (the cover grosses me out too much so I have not read it, I am a wuss). The love triangle is engrossing but it is clear who it has to be and I am rooting for that one!! I have to say I generally do not go for stories with triangles but her writing is so good she had me from the moment the Dragon exploded!
