HASH(0x9eef645c) out of 5 stars So Beautiful is in the tradition of Savage Garden's earlier work Nov. 15 2005

"So Beautiful" is one of two new songs present on the new Savage Garden best-of Truly, Madly, Completely. Three singles have been released (one in Australia and two in England) to promote So Beautiful, written by Darren Hayes (Darren and Daniel did not, in fact, collaborate to come up with new songs as originally planned).

So Beautiful Part One features the So Beautiful Radio Edit and To the Moon And Back Medley, a live cut of To The Moon And Back, The Lover After Me, and Chained To You recorded on the Too Close for Comfort tour in 2002.

So Beautiful is a long-awaited return to Darren writing a classic love ballad in the tradition of Truly, Madly, Deeply and I Knew I Loved You. (You make me feel so beautiful/Nowhere else in the world I wanna be). Sonically, it's a throwback to Affirmation (1999), and the haunting layered chorus highlights Darren's omnipresent falsetto.

In their brief career, Savage Garden never released a live album. I never liked the studio album Affirmation on its own, but these songs are enchanting when Darren sings them live, with only a synth for backing.

HASH(0x9eef66a8) out of 5 stars Truly, Madly, Beautiful! Nov. 15 2005

Although there are only two tracks on this cd, they are well worth the price. The title track is the remix version, which is a little more upbeat than the original demo version (availalbe on So Beautiful Pt. 2). This song is truly beautiful (see my review for SB Pt. 2 for more details). The second track is a live version, from Darren's Too Close For Comfort Tour. It is a medley of "To The Moon and Back", "The Lover After Me", and "Chained To YOu". This live version truly shows off Darren's signature falsetto voice. He hits the high notes so flawlessly with such grace on "TLAM" that it will leave you breathless. A must have cd for any fans of Darren Hayes, Savage Garden, or any kind of love song.

The title of the song fits the personality and feel of the song to a tee. This song is amazing, and very catchy! If you love Darren Hayes or Savage Garden or just love love songs then this is a must to add to your collection!

HASH(0x9eef6b64) out of 5 stars The best mainstream pop can offer Feb. 6 2006
By Alex Tiuniaev - Published on
Format: Audio CD
After experimenting with electronic pulses and blips absorbed in lush string sound, Darren Hayes has finally returned to the sound that made him famous. I've been waiting for it since Spin was released in 2002... Pretentious ideas aside, it's a great pop track you can't help but sing along to. And what stands it aside from the rest of the bunch is his sincerity and emotional pull. Don't try to reinvent the wheel, Darren, your old one serves you so well!

leave it to darren hayes to come up with yet another ballad that pulls at your heartstrings. that list of songs is endless. this time it sounds like he's in love. i really hope he reclaims the success he had with savage garden as a solo artis in america. this country needs someone as talented as him on their airwaves.
