Product Description

Daniel Pentland is a broken man; torn between the two women in his life. He is tormented by guilt over his love affair with a beautiful English girl he met while living in Italy, and the loyal devotion of his wife, Amanda.

Two years after the tragic death of his lover Kit, he is continually haunted by her memory. Across the sands of the Mojave Desert, her voice calls out to him, pulling at his heart and his memories.

Each night as Daniel wakes screaming and fighting against the phantom of Kit’s killer, his wife does her best to soothe his pain and help him overcome his grief.

Sometimes in Dreams is a story of redemption through a love that simply refuses to die.

HASH(0x9c87942c) out of 5 stars Didn't Like the characters, but Liked the story Oct. 21 2013
By Amelia - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
There were a lot of things I didn't like about this book. I didn't like Daniel, I didn't like Amanda, and I didn't like Kit. I didn't like the instant, all consuming love of Daniel and Kit. I didn't like that Amanda sticks with Daniel.

Normally, this would make me put a book down and give it up for a loss. As a reader, I want to connect with at least one character, otherwise I don't feel a connection to the story and I don't care enough to keep reading to see what happens to the characters.

That didn't happen with this novel, even though I didn't like these three characters, I needed to know how this story would play out. I wanted to know how Kit died. I wanted an answer for why Amanda stuck with Daniel. I wanted to know what was going on with Daniel in the present, not that I really cared.

I got my answer about Kit. I know why Amanda stuck with Daniel. I know how Daniel fares. I'm happy I finished reading. I liked the back and forth nature of the story. It felt as if the reader was on the journey with Daniel, through his struggles with dealing with Kit's death.

I say if the synopsis intrigues you as it did me, to give the story a chance. Sometimes the journey is worth taking.

HASH(0x9c87c36c) out of 5 stars Tragic Love Story Sept. 20 2013
By Snowy Owl 17 - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
Sometimes in Dreams is a beautifully, smartly written story of a man torn between two loves. Daniel, still married, still loves his wife, despite falling for a much younger, Kit. The novel takes the reader on a leisurely, sensual journey of love at first site versus moral obligation. The struggle is set mostly in Italy, against a backdrop of disrupted military service life.

It read almost like a Greek tragedy, only better. It kept my interest and had much to offer, a delight to read. G.L. Helm painted a clear picture of the human condition and pegged the irony of a man getting caught up in a no-win situation.

Helm did a superb job of setting the scene and evoking the feeling of the moment:

"Rain was running from the umbrella like a waterfall. It echoed in the narrow street with a pounding loneliness that caught at Daniel's throat."

That passage alone gave me the chills. I could hear the pounding rain and feel a sense of foreboding as if I was experiencing it too. There's more where that came from.

This is a short read, just 174 pages, but I suggest you take your time and savor. I highly recommend, especially for those who love tragic love stories or stories of military life abroad.

In full disclosure, I was given a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review. While the story is wonderful, the editing needs some TLC, mostly dealing with punctuation.

Love it or hate it--this book is a page turner about a love for two women. Good characterization and depiction of military life. Easy read with a surprise ending! I hope to see another novel about Daniel and Amanda.
