Product Description

Foo Fighters have confirmed that the making of their upcoming eighth album--due out this fall on Roswell/RCA--will be accompanied by an as yet untitled HBO series documenting the eight-city odyssey during which the record was created.

In the series, directed by FF founder Dave Grohl, the Foo Fighters tap into the musical heritage and cultural fabric of eight cities--Chicago, Austin, Nashville, Los Angeles, Seattle, New Orleans, Washington, DC and New York--basing themselves at a legendary studios integral to the unique history and character of each location.

One song was recorded in each city, every song featuring local legends sitting in, and every lyric written in an unprecedented experimental style: Dave held off on putting down words until the last day of each session, so as to be inspired by the experiences, interviews and personalities that became part of the process.

I found out about the release of sonic highways by foofighters through both iheartradio and a local rock radio station around the late September/early October timeframe. I then finalized my purchase of the cd around October 24 and felt like the purchase was worth it because of songs such as something from nothing, the feast and the famine, and in the clear. There is information online and on the cd jacket to support that the 8 songs represent different cities across the US where the songs were created. This group is also just as good live- I am fortunate to have had the chance to see them perform live back in November 2011. Anyhow sonic highways by foo fighters is perfect for those who are familiar with any of their previous songs and/or enjoy listening to hard rock/alternative rock music

This is an unbelievable album by the greatest band in music today! Foo Fighters challenged themselves creatively & musically. As Dave Grohl said, there are different elements in each song that makes it unique or represents a certain sect of American music, but the overall sound is still distinctively Foo Fighters.

Favourite songs in order: Outside, Something From Nothing, Subterannean, The Feast and The Famine, Congregation, I Am A River, WDID/GAMW, In The Clear

Objectively, this is a good album, its a typical Foo Fighters rock album. If you were a fan of their last albums you will like most of the songs. I personally was hoping for a more varied feel in their songs, but all of them sound like the same old Foo Fighters song except maybe I Am A River. Don't expect the trip around the states that the HBO and concept promises, it was just an excuse for the Foos to go around the country and talk to other musicians.

Awesome !
And it is well worth getting the DVD / Blu-Ray of this outstanding series, with each
song being the culmination of the city that each episode took place in.
Dave Grohl has got to be by far the most talented musician around today. ( although calling
him "just" a musician is cutting his many talents short ! )
He may also be the hardest working by a large margin too !!

The record itself is staticy as hell, so dust clings to it like crazy, but after a quick clean she plays absolutely beautifully. This album will certainly go down as the Foo's biggest and best project yet. Every song is packed to the brim with pure EPIC! Couldn't be happier, and I waited months for this one!

I wouldn't say it's their best album ever. It seems a bit short and the songs have more of an epic/orchestral sound to them than the gritty alt-rock sound that I would usually equate Foo Fighters with...but it's not bad. Find a way to preview these songs before buying since it's not their usual sound.

A brilliant band - a brilliant HBO miniseries - and a brilliant album to go along with it. Sonic Highways is a gleaming masterpiece showcasing the history of rock n roll's greatest cities and studios from the Foo Fighters. This album is absolutely not one to be missed. Pick it up if you get the chance.

I bought this CD after watching one of the episodes of the series Sonic Highways (showing the making of the album). Every song is amazing. I listen to this CD from the first track and never skip a song. Well worth the cost. Once again Foo Fighters hit the mark !
