Product Description

Psychic medium Olivia Emerson is young, gutsy, and out to prove she’s got what it takes to hang with the big boys. Although haunted by a past that threatens to consume her, Olivia accepts a job on a snow covered island that could make or break her career. She just needs to keep her past where it belongs- behind her. She knows this job could be her foot in the door, and hopefully the vehicle she needs to break into the business and take the next step up. The only problem; she’ll be working with him.

Paranormal investigator Sullivan Wilde has a healthy dislike for anyone claiming to hear or communicate with spirits. To him, they’re all frauds. He learned firsthand that just because you want to believe, doesn't make it real.

When Sullivan’s forced to work with Olivia, he’s not happy about it. She exasperates him, pushes his buttons, and doesn't have a shut off valve for that mouth of hers. He doesn't believe in her ‘gift’, and makes no apologies for it. Yet, as much as he tries to deny it, there’s something about Olivia that gets under his skin. The moment they’re left alone on the dock of the island, devoid of living inhabitants, everything changes. Some unhappy spirits, coupled with Olivia and Sullivan’s burgeoning feelings for one another leave them with no choice but to rely on one another if they want to make it through the night. Can Sullivan and Olivia put their differences aside in order to finish the job and walk out alive?

Psychic medium Olivia Emerson and paranormal investigator, Sullivan Wilde may not be happy about working together but when they are left alone on the dock, everything changes because they will have to rely on each other if they want to make it through the night in this thrilling urban fantasy.

Olivia needs to prove that she has what it takes to hang with the big boys and Sullivan Wilde believes that anyone claiming they can speak to the dead is a fraud and the reader can’t help but get caught up in the all the fireworks and chills as they investigate some very unhappy spirits. There is no doubt that these strong charismatic characters have lots of powerful chemistry between them, the only questions is whether they will survive their doubts and emotional issues in order to push their relationship forward so you can expect lots of sizzling encounters as well as heated clashes that will cause a few chuckles in this fast paced, smooth flowing plot full of suspense, excitement and romance.

You can also expect lots of shivers and spine tingling chills as they investigate the paranormal activity, because not only is there some unhappy spirits but there is one nasty spirit that is out to make sure that Olivia and Sullivan don’t survive the night which has some ghostly excitement and deadly encounters happening. The scenes are full of great details that capture the imagination and make it easy for the reader to become engrossed in the story while the intriguing events keep them glued to the pages.

I was given a copy of "Wilde and the Witch" by Lisagh J. Winters in exchange for an honest review. Also I'm participating in the virtual book tour hosted by Star Angel's Review.

*****

Olivia Emerson is a young clairvoyant that has been investigating haunting for a few years now. Only problem is that she's been doing it on a volunteer basis. Not getting anywhere financially, she has been supporting herself waiting tables in hopes that she will one day hit it big in the world of ghost hunting.

She seizes the opportunity, cleans almost all her savings out in order to work with the famous Sullivan Wilde. They have been called to Newfoundland to investigate a haunting in Port Aux Basque. All they know is that there is some evil and dark entity that is haunting a small private island and the owner needs this ghost gone before he loses everything he has invested.

With Sullivan Wilde, he has a chip on his shoulder. He doesn't believe that people can talk to ghosts. He has refused to work with any sort of clairvoyant due to them all being charlatans. However, this time he doesn't have a choice. The client has demanded to have the best clairvoyant on this case irregardless of how Sullivan feels.

From the first meeting, Olivia and Sullivan start to butt heads. He has an arrogant attitude about him. She doesn't trust men. So the two of them are destined nothing but trouble. Olivia is trying her best to get along with Sullivan, but with his stubbornness, sharp tongue, and ill temper, she has to learn to stand her ground to this beautiful man.

Sullivan has issues from the first time he laid eyes on Olivia. First, she appears to be really young. He swore she looked 15. Secondly, she is the most beautiful looking thing he ever saw. However, it's her capabilities as a psychic medium that make him detest her even more. Plus, this woman has sas. She isn't taking his crap that he's dishing out...she's slinging it right back in his face...very attractive!

It's when they get to the remote island and dropped off in the dead of a winter blizzard, do the two discover that what they are about to face is pure evil. They will have to either learn to set their differences aside and work together or someone will get hurt. With a ghost that is pure evil, capable of physically harming humans, the extreme cold temperatures and ego's getting in the way, will this highly dysfunctional pair be able to survive what is ahead of them?

*****

I don't understand why I do this to myself, but I love to read paranormal book but will refuse to watch a scary movie. With this book, it scared the crap out of me! I made the mistake of reading it at night. I did fine until they hit the island. Granted this book is mild in comparison to some of the horror novels I read, I still got scared. I had nightmares galore and wasn't able to go back to sleep.

I did find myself getting irritated with how Sullivan was acting. I just wanted to reach up and slap him for his behavior towards Olivia. With his constant insults and not believing in what she was capable of doing, I so hated him. I can see how she was attracted to this beautiful man, but sometimes it's the attitude that makes them ugly.

There was a couple of issues I had with the book. One was how the story jumped so fast towards the end. Not to give away the ending, but it was like the story just hit a wall and stopped in regards to the evil ghost. Also, I realize that there is some issues with Sullivan that Olivia and I both were questioning, but I am only assuming that these will be addressed in the second installment, "His Wounded Rose," which I'm starting ASAP.

Other than these two minor glitches, I did enjoy this book. It does have enough horror aspect to it to scare me. Plus enough romance to please any romance fan. My only suggestion is, if you do get spooked slightly, then this might not be good night-time reading!

HASH(0xa164524c) out of 5 stars Interesting and solid but a little choppy at times. June 30 2014

"Soul Scavengers - Wilde and the Witch (Soul Scavengers #1)" by Lisagh J. Winters
3 out of 5 stars

If you are looking for something paranormal and a little bit Twilight Zone then look no further than the Soul Scavengers series. Sullivan Wilde is cantankerous and very set in his ways. While he believes in spirits he doesn't believe in the idea that a person can communicate with them. Enter Olivia Emerson, a young medium/clairvoyant, who can do just that. When a case for Sully's TV show, Soul Scavengers, throws them together strange happenings force him to rethink everything he knows about the spirit world and his own personal life.

Sullivan is ornery and that is putting it mildly. At first glance he seems rude and often times just plain mean. However, a more thorough study reveals that his heart is heavily armored and something from his past has shaped his views on all mediums. I appreciated his scientific approach to the paranormal and his assertion that not all hauntings are legitimate. His leanings are very realistic and I liked that Winters made him skeptical. Sully is not your typical male lead and I liked that. I found him refreshing and a nice change of pace.

Olivia has grit and a lot of backbone...both of those necessary when dealing with Sully. She's young and still struggling to find a way to be comfortable in her skin. I liked her back story and felt like Winters took the time to develop this character well. She has definite chemistry with Sully and their witty banter was quite enjoyable. Her ability to communicate with the dead seemed to sit very naturally on her and was not the least bit out of character. It was easy to believe in the things she saw and felt.

Overall, the story is interesting and the character development is solid. The plotline moved along well and the pacing was good. Winters' writing style is a little bit choppy at times and there are moments when you feel jerked about. Her transitions from Sully's perspective to Olivia's are not always smooth and easy to follow. Other than that, it's a quick read and an interesting story.

HASH(0xb5a9c834) out of 5 stars An Interesting Concept May 8 2014

Soul Scavengers tells the story of Sullivan Wilde a paranormal investigator and Olivia Emerson a clairvoyant. These two found themselves working together on an assignment which required them to investigate a property which was alleged to be haunted. Now Sullivan was not too keen to work with Olivia as he had no patience for persons who claim to speak to the dead. He saw them as being frauds. However, he had no choice in the matter as the client requested that Olivia be a part of the investigation.

Olivia was glad for the opportunity to be part of this assignment as she wanted to prove that she was no fraud and that she was good at what she did. She knew of Sullivan’s reputation and was prepared to deal with his skepticism.

The moment these two met it was instant fireworks and not in a good way. They were at each other’s throats constantly. Sullivan got a kick out of making fun Olivia’s abilities every chance he got. Olivia knew how to handle Sullivan. No matter how he made light of what she did, she still pressed and eventually she was able to make him see clearly that she was no fraud. Sullivan found himself drawn to Olivia, however, he was wary of giving in to his feelings as he did not want to cross the line as their relationship was a professional one. Furthermore, she was relying on him to give her a recommendation.

The dialogue is entertaining and humorous. These two had me laughing so hard. The story grabbed me from the beginning. The whole concept of a haunted church was intriguing. There were parts that I found boring as the story took some time to build up.

The main characters were not perfect and it was easy to relate to them. They each had their painful secrets which allow readers to understand why they are the way they are.

This was an enjoyable story that had no cliff hangers. Whoopee!!! I am looking forward to read more of this author’s work. If you love paranormal stories and want a break from reading about vampires and shape shifters, then get yourself a copy of this book.

Book Review left by Leigh a Book Worms reviewer.
Thank you Leigh, we gave this book 4 stars.

Olivia Emerson is anticipating a job that she is about to go on with the well-known and popular ghost chasing, TV star Sullivan Wilde. This job could change her career. What she doesn’t realize is how much he will change her life.
Sullivan Wilde is notorious for being a complete jerk to the people he works with on the job. He doesn’t see how this Olivia girl should be any different, but for some reason she is. Despite their age difference, his disbelief in what she does, and a few other things, he is falling for her fast. HE tries his best to keep things professional.
Together these two will face a horrible ghost that has done horrible things to others. They will be alone on an island with no electricity other than what is provided from an old generator. They will face many obstacles created by this horrible spirit and do what they have to to get out alive.

I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

I will admit that I usually don’t read anything that is remotely creepy or scary. So I read more during the day than at night with this one. It really isn’t too scary. I’m really just a wimp that gets creeped out easily.
I love the two main characters in this book. I love how they are so drawn to each other and yet are doing everything to fight it. Olivia’s taunting ways are funny to read and how they affect her partner. I love that I still get a good romantic attraction in this paranormal book. The push and pull between these two make for an interesting read.
Then there are the ghosts. This book had just enough creepiness in it to make it an excellent paranormal read. The eeriness of the phantom children and the power and tricks of the evil ghost will put chill bumps down your arms.
I will definitely be reading more from this author in the future… during the daytime hours.

HASH(0xa1710090) out of 5 stars 4.5 Hauntingly creeptastic paws! April 30 2014

I really enjoyed this one! I love when you aren't sure what to expect and you end up having a great time after. :) I wasn't really sure what to expect, but I do now. Let me start with a very egotistical, yet hawt, TV show paranormal investigator meets his match in a tiny, fierce, spunky medium, who is actually the real deal. And they both have some serious demon baggage hanging around from their past, and neither one of them seems to want to let go. And now, they are stuck with the crazies and need to help spirits out.

Olivia is our lovely lady, who is a medium, yes she can speak with ghosts. No she isn't a fake. And yes she looks young, but she just might give you a tongue lashing if you accuse her of it. :) She's fierce, loyal, smart, and quite funny. She has a hard time warming up to Sullivan, mainly because he's an ass, but you will learn her past is haunting her, and yet she is still such a great character. I loved that by the end of the story, I was begging for something really good to happen for her. :) She needed a knight, and she had to work really hard to get him :)

Sullivan is a hard man. He has a TV show for investigating paranormal activity, and yet he's very attractive, though pushes everyone away with his stunning personality, lawd he needed a good kick in his ass, maybe he wouldn't have been one for so long. :) I thought I was going to hate him the whole book, I really did. But he got his act together and proved that sometimes, even if it takes a swift kick in the face which happens LOL, men can change and realize they have something good!

The writing is easy and flows well. The characters, though it's mostly just Olivia and Sullivan, are well rounded. The plot is interesting, except that I seriously wanted to flog Sullivan for his stupid "I just don't believe in this crap" nonsense. Like seriously, it's his motto through more than half the book, and yet he totally gets smashed in the face with proof that makes him believe. I really liked that. :) I also may not be able to listen to bells anymore without a creep factor from this book now. I hope there's going to be more about these characters, maybe some of the other characters mentioned at the end. :) 4.5 HAUNTINGLY CREEPTASTIC PAWS
